Smart Pajamas Use Dots To Read Bedtime Stories On Your iOS, Android Devices

Reading your child a bedtime story is an experience most parents probably enjoy more than their children do as it allows them to be creative in how they deliver the story to their child. Changing your voice to simulate what they believe the character would sound like is one way to be creative, but another, more tech-friendly method would be to put these Smart PJs on your child.

The Smart PJs have dots all over them, which are placed in a way where they’re scannable to pull up a bedtime story when you scan them. Parents would have to download Smart PJs’ respective application either on their iOS or Android device, and they can let their child choose which dot pattern they like the best to have its corresponding story read to them. The Smart PJs application also puts the words to all of the stories and information on animals on the screen, which can help their child learn to read the stories themselves.

Smart PJs are available in four different sizes for both boys and girls and only cost $25. We’re not sure how many stories the Smart PJs can make available, but we do know that it’s probably enough to keep your child entertained while being drifted off to sleep for a couple of years.

US Judge Rules That Motorola’s Patents Aren’t Worth $4 Billion, But Around $1.8 Million Instead

US Judge Rules That Motorolas Patents Arent Worth $4 Billion, But Around $1.8 Million InsteadEarlier this year we reported that Motorola’s complaint against Microsoft for alleged patent infringement could see Motorola demanding up to $4 billion in royalties from Microsoft which we can all agree upon is no small amount. Unfortunately for Motorola, it looks like even if they were to win the legal battle against Microsoft, they might not be able to get $4 billion as the judge presiding over the legal battle has determined that the value of Motorola’s patents were extremely overvalued and that they are in reality worth about $1.8 million in royalties every year.

Of course when it comes to settlements, negotiations are to be expected, although in this case Motorola’s $4 billion did seem somewhat outrageous, compared to Microsoft’s estimation of $1.2 million, which admittedly was closer to what the judge had valued Motorola’s potential royalties to be worth on an annual basis. We expect that Motorola can’t be too happy about this, and unsurprisingly Microsoft seems to be and in a statement released by Microsoft’s corporate vice president and deputy general counsel, David Howard, “This decision is good for consumers because it ensures patented technology committed to standards remains affordable for everyone.”

T-Mobile/MetroPCS Merger To Become Official 1st Of May

T Mobile/MetroPCS Merger To Become Official 1st Of MayThe other day we reported that the shareholders of MetroPCS have given the T-Mobile/MetroPCS merger their blessings to proceed. We were also wondering if at that time would the deal be able to conclude in time as originally scheduled, which was targeted for completion around mid-year. Surprisingly it seems that despite a tiny setback from their shareholders, the CEO of Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile USA, has announced that the merger has been made official and will officially take place on the 1st of May! According to the statement:

We have accomplished a lot in the USA recently, for example our network modernization and the new T-Mobile USA management team, which has seen considerable success. And we have finalized the contracts with Apple and MetroPCS. The merger with MetroPCS is extremely important, since it enables us to be more aggressive in the USA.

We’re sure that customers of both T-Mobile and MetroPCS are eager to see what sort of new deals that they can benefit from based on this merger, but we guess we will probably have to wait until the 1st of May before the details are revealed! In the meantime, any T-Mobile/MetroPCS subscribers out there excited by this merger?

Judge Koh To Samsung And Apple: Lower Your Claim Numbers For 2014’s Patent Trial Already!

Judge Koh To Samsung And Apple: Lower Your Claim Numbers For 2014’s Patent Trial Already!Samsung and Apple are not the best of friends at this point in time, as the latter was awarded $1 billion in damages in last year’s court ruling, which has led to appeals as well as a fraying working relationship between both behemoths in their respective industries. Well, for watchers on the sidelines who are interested to know how Apple and Samsung’s second patent trial will pan out (which is set to begin sometime in March next year), Judge Lucy Koh has laid down some ground rules to make life easier for everyone.

She issued an order to both Samsung and Apple that they are to limit the number of accused products to 10 for each side, while Apple, obviously living up to their previous motto of thinking differently, prefers an alternate proposal that would enable each side to accuse “representative products” and, and should any of those be found to infringe on a patent, such similar products can be thrown into the mix. Judge Koh has also ensured that both sides would agree to the trial being limited to just 12 days, so they had better pull in their best expert witnesses to get the “job” done, so to speak, as soon as possible without delaying it any further.

Huawei To Shift Its Carrier Business Focus From The U.S.

Huawei has confirmed that it is shifting the focus of its carrier business from the U.S. Chief Technology Office for Huawei’s carrier networking group, Li Sanqi, said that “Apparently, due to whatever the geopolitical reasons, we are not focusing on the U.S. market.” In October last year a Congressional report stated that Huawei’s networking equipment could be a national security risk, the report advised telecom operators in the country to avoid purchasing such equipment from this company, which it believes to have ties with the Chinese government. Officials believe that Huawei’s equipment can be used by China to launch hacking attacks against the country, and seeing as how Chinese attack traffic reportedly tripled in the final quarter of 2012, it can prove to be difficult to refute this claim.

The U.S. accounts for 30% of the world’s carrier market and Huawei definitely wants to have a piece of it. However now it will be focusing its energies towards opportunities in growing markets such as China. U.S. is also going to take a firm stand against Chinese cyberattacks, the administration is reportedly considering a number of options which includes, but is not limited to, economic sanctions.

Tumblr iOS App Updated With New Social Features

This past week we have seen Tumblr make a number of changes to its mobile offering. Just a couple of days back it announced that ads will now be displayed in Tumblr’s mobile apps. Yesterday the first ever Tumblr app for Windows Phone 8 was released and today their updated iOS app is available for download from iTunes App Store. The update brings a couple of new social features, users can now share directly to Facebook or Twitter from straight within the app. This is a really important feature as users tend to share their content on two of the most widely used online social networks, having the ability to do that straight from the app will no doubt save a lot of time and hassle.

If someone doesn’t want to view Tumblr posts in its app, it now has support for Instapaper and Pocket, which allows for convenient reading on different devices. The app update also brings a new template for email sharing. Tumblr for iOS version 3.3.1 is now online and can be downloaded for free right away from iTunes App Store.

Facebook Messenger Android App Updated With Stickers

Facebook Messenger Android App Updated With Stickers

Facebook Home brought over “stickers” for Messenger. Stickers are basically emoticons on steroids, they’re similar to those we have seen on other chat applications such as LINE. These large and quite funny emoticons can be sent to your friends during chats. Earlier today we posted a guide on how to enable stickers on Android, but now Facebook Messenger for Android has been updated and it comes with stickers, no need to perform any trying procedures.

To get stickers on your Android device, just update the Facebook Messenger app. The latest version is now live and can be downloaded right away from Google Play Store. To use them just open a chat dialog, tap on the smiley at the right hand side, select your desired sticker and hit send. These only work in FB chat, attempting them in SMS won’t be of any use. In the release notes Facebook mentions that the stickers feature will be available to everyone soon, initial comments from people who have downloaded the updated Messenger app reveal that stickers aren’t exactly there in the dialog box. This seems a bit odd. Are you facing a similar issue?
