Life-sized Titanfall Mech Surfaces in Germany

If you find yourself near the Berlin Central Station today, you may have noticed a gigantic robot there before you decided to run for your life and hide in some corner. Nothing to fear. It’s just Betty the Titan, and this is just one stop on a four stop tour around Germany to promote Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall in a big way.

Believe it or not Respawn and EA have been moving this and one other Titanfall prop all around the world. So far Betty has made appearances at Gamescom, GDC, E3, and a couple of other venues. Both Titans were created to represent the true scale of the mech compared to puny humans and they do that well. They would be amazing to see in person.

The Titans were created by Daniel’s Wood Land, based out of Paso Robles, CA. They are made almost completely out of foam, which is carved using 3D carving machines, then painted and sealed. So they aren’t as hard to move around as you would think. One day soon maybe we have have real mechs this size to crush us and kill us.

Each one is backlit with remote-controlled LEDs so you can us it as an accent light too. They’re made from heavy-gauge plastic using vacuuforming, with the buttons assembled separately. Each piece is hand-painted to give it a great, finished look.

If you’re interested in hanging one on your wall, head on over to Kickstarter and pledge before March 12, 2014. A pledge of at least $144 will get you in on the giant controller action.

Just don’t expect to play any actual games with this thing.

Giant Switchblade, I Mean Sword

Why carry a tiny switch blade when you can carry a giant sword of a switchblade? This giant knife has a 13.75 inch-long steel blade that pops out at the push of a gigantic button.
giant switchblade 620x431magnify

The Halo V 3X switchblade changes everything. Gang fights just got a whole lot deadlier.

Of course, this giant thing has such a powerful spring action, it needs two people to close it. Also, a sword – I mean switchblade – like this doesn’t come cheap. It will cost you $9,500(USD) from bladehq.

Never bring a knife to a gun fight – unless it is this one. Then you at least have a chance to cut the guy’s arm off before he can shoot you.

51-Foot-Long Dragon Is the World’s Largest Walking Robot

The world’s largest walking robot is crazy. It’s a 51-foot-long fire-breathing dragon named Tradinno. Surprisingly, this is not a Japanese creation, but a German one. It was made for a play called Der Drachenstich by industrial robotics company Zollner Elektronik AG.
dragon robot
This beast weighs in at 11 tons, and despite that massive weight it can still move and flap its 40-foot-wide wings. The size is impressive of course, but also impressive is the detail. The movement is a bit unrealistic, but who cares? This thing is badass! It breaths fire and squirts buckets of stage blood! And while it can walk short distances on its own, they need to move it on the back of a trailer for anything longer than a jaunt around the stage.

Check it out in action right here in the video. It looks like it was quite an undertaking to create this epic monster.

And if there’s any doubt that it’s the world’s largest walking robot, check the Guinness World Records.

An Even Bigger Big Wheel for Adults

We recently saw the High Roller, which is a Big Wheel for adults. It was big, but not this big. This Big Wheel is truly enormous. Like “Get the hell out of my way!” big.
giant big wheel
This massive custom built Big Wheel is being sat upon by commercial and music video director Keith Schofield. Imagine the drifting he could do on this beast. The horns are a nice touch. You would need them for sure, to make sure that others get out of your way as you barrel down a hill, gaining speed. He built this crazy thing for a commercial he directed recently for car maker Škoda. You can see it in the clip at about 15 seconds in:

Great job, Keith. You are the kind of man who makes dreams come true for all of us big kids.

World’s Largest Headphones: Sound of the Colossus

When you have the world’s largest headphones, you don’t put them on your head. You sit between the earcups and let the sound assault you. These monstrous headphones were created by Dallyn Rule for the recent Mini Maker Faire in Vancouver, B.C.

headphones
They measure almost a full human body length and they are completely functional and made from 100% recycled material. Making this huge pair of headphones has been a dream of Dallyn’s since childhood.

giant headphones 2

They may be the only headphones designed to never ever touch your ears or head. Yet it still produces music designed for individual listening – like a surround that affects your entire body. And it doesn’t affect those around you very much at all. So it is a very personal way to experience music.

Great work Dallyn, though is it just me, or are you wearing actual headphones in that second image above?

Guy Masters Universe, Builds Giant Skeletor Action Figure Replica

If you are a He-Man fan who finds the 80′s action figures just a little too small, check this out. Oh and clear some floor space if you want to make one of these yourself. This is a giant replica of the Skeletor action figure, no doubt made by the power of Grayskull.

skeletor
This giant action figure was made by Diego D. Gonzalez of DDG Colecciones. I guess the standard action figure size wasn’t big enough. Skeletor even has his staff accessory, which has been super-sized as well.

Here are some images and video documenting the build…

Boy that stand being used to hold Skeletor up during construction doesn’t look too comfortable.

Giant LEGO Minifig is Really a Maxifig

We’ve seen lots of cool parents making cool stuff for their kids, and here’s another Dad who made something truly special for his daughter to geek out on. While most parents just settle for ordinary sized LEGO minifigs, Instructables contributor ChampX made a ginormous minifig for his household.

giant lego minifig maxifig

This oversize LEGO “maxifig” is exactly 10 times the size of an ordinary minifig, but it’s at least 100 times more awesome. It’s made from PVC pipe and plexiglas. It’s almost as big as his 10-month-old daughter, though she will continue to get bigger and the LEGO maxifig won’t. Sounds like the plot to the sequel to Ted.

kid with giant minifig

Champx made this massive minifig to look like the classic LEGO space figure, and it’s a perfect match. He even made it out of separate pieces, so everything moves just like a regular minifig. The helmet can even be removed and turn like the real deal.

You can check out more pics of the build over on Instructables. Amazing job, Champx!
