Fallout 3 Vault Boy Bobbleheads: S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Collectibles

Bethesda has released replicas of some of the Vault Boy Bobbleheads that you can collect in Fallout 3. Fortunately you won’t have to look far and wide for the figurines. Unfortunately they won’t increase your stats. You’ll just have to find another way to be better at Energy Weapons.

Give the Gift of Nothing

Some people are so rich, that it seems like they have everything. Others may have just enough in terms of finances, but they can be so happy and content with life, that it would still seem like they have everything they need.

What can you get for those people this Christmas? What gift would they want, when they can either buy it easily themselves, or when they have no want for anything else because they’re perfectly content with what they already have?

nothing 1 620x530magnify

The Gift of Nothing might be appropriate for those people. It’s basically a round, plastic sphere that has nothing inside. In short, it is the gift of nothing.

It was probably created as a gag gift (imagine how a kid would react if they got this!) But if you’re giving it to one of the two types of people described above, here’s an idea: give them the gift of laughter with this present, and add a little something you made (be it a poem, a letter, or a drawing) with a special message that will warm their hearts for sure.

Timeless Box Keeps Presents a Mystery

The Timeless Box is a gadget designed to help you keep your gifts a mysterious secret until it’s time to open them. It is basically a timed safe for gifts. Because let’s face it, we all love to snoop and try to figure out what our gifts are, ruining our own surprise.
timeless 620x348magnify

This safe prevents such holiday crimes and keeps presents and other stuff hidden away from prying eyes and hands. The gift stays a secret and now you can be properly surprised, or disapointed on Christmas morning. Once the gift is placed inside the safe, you enter the date that it will be given. It stays shut until then.

The Timeless Box is seeking funding on Indiegogo. A minimum pledge of €76 (~$104 USD) will get you one of your very own. Unfortunately, it won’t be ready until February 2014, so assuming it gets funded, you’ll have to wait until next year to use it. Also, it only holds small presents, so it’s not like you could hide a PS4 or an Xbox One inside of it.

Google refreshes Shopping site with extended previews, 360-degree photos, ‘visually similar’ search

It’s set to be a holly jolly holiday season, especially if you’re keen to do your gift shopping online. Google’s browser-based Shopping tool just scored a pretty comprehensive refresh, complete with a handful of new features designed to make it easier to browse, search for and select a variety of items. A new preview pane lets you view colors, sizes and a product description, along with online and retail store availability, while an updated Shortlist tool gathers “maybe” items in a temporary cart that resides at the top of each page. You can also get a good look at everything from cameras to handbags to toys with the interactive 360-degree viewer, now available for select items. Google hopes that last tool will help deliver an “in-store feeling,” but to complete the experience, you might also want to climb aboard an RV and set up shop in a Walmart parking lot the night before Black Friday with a “free restrooms” sign on the door. Happy holidays!

Game of Thrones Map Puzzle: Set Down Our Deeds

Replicate the opening credits of HBO’s Game of Thrones with this multilayered puzzle map of Westeros. Aside from the flat map of the war-torn continent, the kit also includes tiny replicas of cities and castles, plus a few other figurines. Make sure to hum the opening theme while you’re putting it together.

game of thrones 4d puzzle map by 4d cityscapemagnify

The map was made by 4D Cityscape, a company known for two things: building puzzle maps of cities and misunderstanding the concept of the 4th dimension. This definitively 3-dimensional continent puzzle is made of 1,200 pieces. Then there’s a smaller 200-piece puzzle that sits on top of the continent puzzle that outlines the “current landscape” of Westeros. I assume that refers to the layout of the land based on the TV series so far. The final layer consists of the aforementioned figurines of cities and castles. There are also “over 45 flags to mark famous landmarks, 10 sigils to mark the Houses, and 5 battle markers to learn the locations of five major battles.”

You can pre-order the puzzle map from ThinkGeek for $60 (USD), and you’ll have it in plenty of time as a gift for that Game of Thrones fan on your holiday shopping list.

Neil deGrasse Tyson’s Punch-Out!!: This Would Probably be the World’s Hardest Game

Pauline Acalin mashed up the Neil deGrasse Tyson reaction meme with Nintendo’s classic boxing game Punch-Out!! to create this funny print. Can you imagine what physics boxing would be like? Chess boxing would be a walk in the park compared to that.

Supertoy Talking Teddy Bear: Thunder Buddies for Life!

Talking toys are nothing new, but most toys simply spout off pre-recorded sound bites. Not Supertoy Teddy. He’s a teddy bear that can actually hold a conversation, i.e. it will listen to what you say and respond accordingly. It’s like Siri, but in a stuffed toy.

supertoy talking teddy bear

Supertoy Robotics, the company behind Teddy, also made Jeannie, a voice-activated virtual assistant app for Android. In other words, these guys know a thing or two about natural language user interfaces.

I’m not sure if the toy in the video was actually working or if that exchange was staged. What I do know is that the Supertoy Teddy will work like Siri and Jeannie. And it sounds a whole lot like Ted. When you speak to it, it will connect to several servers that will decipher what you said and send back an appropriate reply. It will supposedly understand 30 languages out of the box. How will it do all of that? According to Supertoy Robotics’ response to backers, you’ll need to place a mobile device inside Teddy to make him work. The device will run Teddy’s app and will be the one to connect to the servers.

The video below, which shows Teddy’s innards, should give us a better idea of how the toy will perform in real life:

Hopefully Supertoy Robotics will give a no-frills demo of the final toy to clear up any confusion and show people what it can really do. But if you’re already sold, pledge about $64 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Supertoy Teddy as a reward. I wonder if Teddy knows the Thunder Buddy Song.
