Prescription Google Glass Has Been Officially Announced

Wearing Google Glass with prescription glasses is probably not the most comfortable thing. Even though I don’t own a pair of Google Glass, putting 3D glasses on in the theater makes for an uncomfortable experience already, so I can only imagine what it might be like for Google Glass owners. Well the good news for those who are looking for a pair of prescription Google Glass is that it is finally here as Google has officially announced a handful of prescription Google Glass devices that will be part of the company’s “Titanium Collection”. These frames will be designed with titanium meaning that they will be relatively lightweight which we guess will help balance out any additional electronics that have been added.

The Titanium Collection has been designed for both men and women in mind, so there are no designs which might be thought of as more masculine or feminine. There will be four different designs to choose from: bold, curve, split, and thin, as well as two options for those who are looking for a sunglasses version of Google Glass. No word on how much these prescription Google Glasses will cost, but in the meantime you can check out the promotional video above for the prescription version of Google Glass. So, any explorers planning on picking up their own pair?

Whoa, Google Glass Just Got Way Better Looking (Plus Prescriptions)

One of the biggest criticisms Google Glass has incurred since day one is that it’s, well, ugly and/or weird-looking. Believe it or not, Google may have actually just solved the problem.

Samsung’s Google Glass Rival Rumored For IFA 2014 Launch

samsung-patent-sports-glassesGoogle Glass is an amazing piece of technology to the point where it has even made it to the latest episode of The Simpsons. That being said, with the potential behind Google Glass, we’re not surprised if there are other companies out there who might be developing similar solutions of their own. Samsung is one of them and according to patents and rumors, a Samsung Galaxy Glass is said to be in the works. Well according to a recent report from the Korea Times, they cite unnamed Samsung officials who apparently told them that the South Korean tech giant is currently developing a Google Glass rival of their own, which at the moment has been tentatively referred to as the Galaxy Gear (in accordance with how Samsung names some of their mobile products).

In fact it has been suggested that work has been pretty far along to the point where Samsung might even announce the headset at IFA 2014 which will be taking place in Berlin during the month of September later this year. However it seems that Samsung might not be too concerned with making money from their Galaxy Glass. Apparently having first-mover advantage is a bigger priority for Samsung and while one can argue that Google Glass is the first, we’re guessing Samsung is hoping to be the first company to make it available commercially. What do you guys think? Would you consider getting a Samsung Galaxy Glass?

Man Accosted By FBI Agents For Wearing Google Glass In The Cinema

Man Accosted By FBI Agents For Wearing Google Glass In The CinemaGoogle Glass is certainly leading the way as far as wearable technology is concerned. Not only is the device becoming more viable commercially, but it has also been designed where it is not a bulky contraption strapped to your head, but a rather elegant solution that caters to those with prescription glasses as well. Unfortunately due to the Glass’ capabilities, namely photo taking and video recording, there are still a lot of places out there who have the right to be worried, such as casinos and movie theaters where owners of such establishments worry that patrons who wear Glass might take advantage of them. Google Releases Branding Guidelines For Glass™

    dont-get-in-the-way

Do you cringe when you hear people talk about Google Glasses? So does Google, it seems. The company today released a set of branding guidelines for its developers to clarify how they can use the Glass™ icon and brand name in their products.

Update: looks like the guidelines were actually on the Glass Developer site before, but mostly went unnoticed. Google recently updated the navigation of the site (that’s how I found out about them) and made the link to the branding guidelines more obvious, likely to emphasize most of the rules we describe below.

In this document, Google stresses that “Glass” can never be part of the name of a company that produces software for Glass, for example. You can call a product “Cat Facts for Glass” but never “Glass Cat Facts.” It’s okay to use “Glass” as a descriptor (Glass optics), though.

Google also stresses that whenever you use the “for Glass” construction in your logo, “for Glass” must be a smaller size than the rest.

Another rule states that Glass is always supposed to be capitalized and “is never plural or possessive.” This means, you aren’t supposed to say “”Wear Google Glasses” or “Swipe forward on Glass’s timeline.” I can see why the plural doesn’t make sense, given that the product name is Glass, but the only reason not to use the possessive, it seems, is that any word that ends with an ‘s’ always looks a bit off once it becomes a possessive.

One interesting guideline Google notes is that whenever users share content through Glass, developers are supposed to use the #throughglass hashtag “to categorize it for easy discoverability and aggregation” or “Sent through Glass” in emails.

Most of this is pretty straightforward (except for the odd rule around the possessive). It does show, however, that as more Glass software slowly becomes available now that the Glass Development Kit is in “Sneak Peak,” Google is starting to lay down a few more rules for developers.

Glass is a trademark of Google Inc.

Google Music All Access users are reporting that they’ve received an email inviting them to join the ranks of Glass Explorers. (Here’s the sign up page you can try if you didn’t get the email.) As far we can tell it’s the first time Google has opened up the program to a subset of its users without demanding that they explain themselves.

I, Glasshole: My Year With Google Glass

These Water Balloons are for Lighting, Not for Fighting

Water balloon fights are fun and they are a mandatory part of childhood. Adults love to get in on the action too whenever we get the chance. So if you are looking for some fun lighting that has a bit of nostalgia and a playful attitude, check out these water balloon pendant lights.

These unique and playful lights are inspired by water balloons inflating under a faucet. They were designed by Torafu Architects and they were displayed at the IFFT interior design show in Tokyo last month.

They’re not light bulbs in the usual sense, though they do have the shape. Each of these glass bulbs is backlit by an LED which highlights the bubbles and curves in the glass. They look like they emit a nice soft glow.

Too bad you can’t pluck them from their leads and throw them at each other for a light/fight show.
