Google Barge Arrives In Stockton At Last

Google Barge Arrives In Stockton At LastRemember the mysterious Google Barge? At the end of last month, we reported that it was well on its way to Stockton, and fast forward to today, the Google Barge has finally arrived in Stockton. This just goes to show yet again that patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait. The Google Barge has made its way to its new home in Stockton after managing to come to an agreement with the city’s port to lease a spot. The entire journey took 80 miles to complete, with it having left Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay.

Google Barge On Its Way To Stockton

Google Barge On Its Way To StocktonA couple of days ago, we did bring you word that the Google Barge would not be docked at the San Francisco Bay island for long, and it seems that particular statement has held true. In fact, the highly mysterious Google Barge is now making its way to the Port of Stockton that is located approximately 129 kilometers on the east of San Francisco in order to comply with an order that requires it to make its base elsewhere. According to the agency that is leasing the Treasure Island space where the barge is being built, this four-story vessel is headed for Stockton. The Google Barge was originally supposed to make its way out only next month, at least that is what Mirian Saez, director of operations for the Treasure Island Development Authority, mentioned.

    Google Barge Project Apparently Halted

Google Barge Project Apparently HaltedGoogle has certainly gotten itself involved in a fair number of projects in the past, but this time around, they do seem to have something that is rather unusual – which would come in the form of the Google Barge. Basically, the Google Barge happens to be a possible floating showroom in San Francisco Bay that will feature some of the more recent technologies unveiled by the company, but sad to say, plans from Google for this unique floating showroom has been put “on hiatus.”

CNET claims that it has been quite some time since there was any visible progress made to the construction of this barge, with work stopping shortly after the United States Coast Guard conducted an inspection of it on October 23. While the Coast Guard did mention that it “did not stop any work on” the barge, perhaps there are some other underlying concerns that have not yet been revealed to the masses that point out the barge’s “suitability for being visited by members of the public.” What do you think? I am quite sure that many of us have heard about the floating bookstores before, namely the (now retired) Doulos, Logos and Logos II, with Logos Hope being the only ship left that plies the seven seas.

Smarty Ring An Indiegogo Project Waiting To Be Funded

Sauron’s One Ring proved to be his downfall, but when he had it, he was nigh unstoppable. The thing is, that ring was meant to rule them “all”, but when one takes a step out of the realm of fiction and into the real world, what do we end up with? Here is an Indiegogo project that I personally hope to see realized – the Smarty Ring, which is the ring to rule the world of wearable tech. All right, maybe rule is too strong a word, and complement might be better. The Smarty Ring happens to be a stainless steel ring with an LED display, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity thrown into the mix, all measuring 13mm wide and accompanied by a smartphone app.

Needless to say, the Smarty Ring will pair up with a smartphone, where it will then double up as a remote control as well as a notification receiver. With the smartwatch already having such a small viewing area, what more a ring, one will really wonder whether the Smarty Ring will end up being as useful as it has been touted to be, or more of a flashy, one-off tech device that would die a quick death. The ring’s display will show off the time, accept or reject calls, control music, trigger the smartphone’s camera, and initiate speed-dial calls, not to mention alert you using light-up icons that are different when it comes to texts, e-mails, Facebook, Twitter, Google Hangouts, and Skype. Any takers? [Smarty Ring Project Page]
