Google’s incoming 32GB Nexus 7 may be one of its worst kept secrets, with most estimates (and those leaks) pointing to a $249 price tag and a launch date later this week. However, it also appears that the 16GB model will drop its price down to $199, according to leaked images from both Office Depot and GameStop — great news for anyone who’s so far held off from grabbing the first Nexus tablet. While an official announcement’s been delayed by the forces of nature, we expect to hear more from Google sooner rather than later.

Google seems to have run out of the 8GB version of its Nexus 7 tablet. Sometime today, the $200 slate went from “In Stock” to “Coming Soon”, with the Play store giving would-be purchasers the option to sign up for an email notification when it becomes available once again. Might this be a case of demand exceeding supply, or could the least capacious Nexus 7 be on the outs — making way for a forthcoming 32GB version? No one outside of Mountain View can say for sure, but odds are favorable we’ll find out at next week’s Android event. Stay tuned.

Google‘s Q3 2012 earnings got out a bit too early yesterday due to what seems like a printing error by the company’s printer PR Donnelley, and amidst all of the numbers and figures, the company is said to have sold between 800,000 and one million Nexus 7 tablets during the third quarter, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster.

Munster believes Google’s “other income” line from its earnings report hints as to how many Nexus 7 tablets the company sold. The report showed a revenue of $666 million, up from $385 million during the same period last year. Munster thinks that “other” revenue may reflect Nexus 7 sales, which could’ve reached one million during Q3.

If Munster is right, that means Google sold over 10,000 Nexus 7 tablets every day on average since the device’s announcement back in late June. Google surprisingly hasn’t specified any Nexus 7 sales numbers considering that the company boasts about the number of Android activations there were in a given month or day almost every chance it gets.

Google’s Q3 2012 earnings report showed a profit of $2.18 billion, which is down from $2.73 billion a year ago. That’s $6.53 a share compared to $8.33 a share from a year ago. However, revenue went up for the company, reporting an $11.33 billion revenue. According to Google, an increase in expenses had a lot to with the lower profit. Expenses jumped 71% from last year.

Good news, Nexus 7 owners: Google has started to push updates to Android 4.1.2 for your tablet. By far the biggest improvement this update brings with it is the addition of landscape mode, which Nexus 7 owners have been waiting for. The wait is finally over, though – after applying this update, you’ll be able to use landscape mode to your heart’s content.

Unfortunately, landscape mode seems to be the only noteworthy thing in this update. The update is quite tiny, coming in at only 31.3MB in size, and most of that is taken up by general bug and stability fixes. It’s a shame that, aside from landscape mode, Android 4.1.2 isn’t anything all that substantial. Many Android users were looking forward to it, but now it appears that Android 4.2 is the update to get excited about.

Still, if you’re using a Nexus 7, the addition of landscape mode will make the download worth it. As stated above, this update also contains various bug, stability, and performance fixes, but as is usually the case, the bugs aren’t singled out specifically. That means we don’t know which bugs are getting fixed in Android 4.1.2, but just know that the fixes are in there.

Android 4.1.2 was released earlier today as an OTA update, but if you haven’t received it yet and are tired of waiting, Google has provided a download link to snag it directly. Back when Google ecstatically unveiled its 7-inch Nexus tablet a few months ago, the company decided to keep things simple by only introducing 8GB and 16GB models — much to the dismay of folks who prefer a device with a bit more storage space. One lucky customer in Japan, however, claims to have unexpectedly received a Nexus 7 loaded with more built-in storage than Mountain View currently advertises, having been delivered Google’s Jelly Bean-packing slate with 32GB instead of the 16GB unit that was ordered. Interestingly enough, the surprise delivery comes at a time when Google is rumored to launch a new, more spacious 32GB model as soon as October 24th — though only time will tell if that’s actually going to be the case.
