U.S. Google Search Will Now Show Restaurant Menus In Results

U.S. Google Search Will Now Show Restaurant Menus In Results

Picking a place for dining can often become a titanic task, particularly if you have friends who are very picky about seeing the menu before actually going to the venue. Now its quite arduous to fish out a menu on the internet, that too when the restaurant’s website doesn’t have a mobile site. Thankfully, Google is on the job to make things easier for diners all around the country. It will now display restaurant menus in top results on Google Search.

This obviously takes care of a lot of things. Most patrons would first Google a new restaurant to find out its menu or timings as well as policies. Now from just one window they can get all of that information plus take a look at what they can expect from the chefs at the new joint. With menus being shown up in top results, seeking them online is now easier than ever before.

Obviously this doesn’t mean that every restaurant in the country has its menu up on the search engine, however as time passes we can expect this service to only get better as more data comes in. The results include tabs through which users can access different parts of the menu, such as appetizers, mains and desserts. Though in order to search for a menu, users will either have to type or say out the “show me the menu for” phrase in Google Search.

Google Search iOS Update Brings Smarter Maps Integration And More

Google Search iOS Update Brings Smarter Maps Integration And More

The internet search giant today released a redesigned Google Search app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Its updated app comes with a slightly refined design that’s in line with the user interface changes that Apple has made in iOS 7, its latest and greatest mobile platform update. Subtle visual tweaks include the expansion of the overall user interface, as well as the filling of the entire screen by Google Now feed, once its invoked by swiping up from the bottom of the display.

Google Search iOS updated app offers a full screen browsing experience, launch the app and see the battery status bar disappear. However whenever Google Now is invoked, the status bar appears, but individual cards are now big enough that they fill the entirety of the display. The updated app also brings a fast and fluid native image search for iPads, thus allowing users to find the images they’re looking for within the app without having the need to launch Chrome for iOS. Smarter integration with Google Maps is also present, while it hasn’t been revealed just how deeply integrated this new feature is, pulling up maps in Google Search does seem a lot faster than before. A “Get directions” button appears in the top left hand corner, tapping it will redirect users to the Google Maps app for iOS. The updated Google Search app is available as a free download from the App Store.

Google Search Personalized Results Flipped On

Google Search Personalized Results Flipped On

Google regularly keeps updating Search, which is one of its most widely used services. Since last year the company had been running a field trial of Gmail integration in Search, which would result in personalized search results being shown to users. Starting today the internet search giant is flipping on personalized results from Gmail, Google Calendar and Google+ in Google Search. Unless users opt-out, personalized results will now be shown by default to all those who are signed in to their Google account while conducting a web search through the company’s world famous search engine.

Apart from displaying travel documents and appointments, results will also include reservations, flight status, package deliveries as well as receipts from items purchased online. These results can easily be obtained by making a natural language query either by voice or through the keyboard. For example, to find out what your schedule is for the next day, simply search for “what’s my schedule tomorrow,” using any of the two mediums and a personalized card will display appointments saved in Google Calendar. Initially personalized search will only be available to English language users based in the U.S. through desktop, smartphones and tablets. No word as yet when this feature will be rolled out across the board.
