Google Tests Same-Day Delivery Service In San Francisco

Google Tests Same Day Delivery Service In San Francisco

It looks as though Walmart isn’t the only company that is making some moves with its online shopping delivery service as Google has announced it is starting to test its “Shopping Express” service in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company is partnering with big-name retailers like Target, Walgreens, Staples, American Eagle and Toys ‘R’ Us, as well as local coffee shops and independent stores and will offer early adopters six months of free, unlimited same-day delivery with prices of goods reflecting how much they cost in their respective stores.

Google will be looking to price its same-day deliver service competitively against Amazon at around $69 a year, but the company is still currently working on its pricing plan for the service that may change based on data from its early testers and retailers. The process to order same-day delivery goods is said to be as easy as buying your goods, selecting a delivery time slot and waiting for one of Google’s delivery partners to drop it off. Let’s just hope they’re able to deliver your box of popcorn and Diet Mountain Dew in time for movie night, or you can expect to be entertaining some hungry and un-caffeinated guests.

Google Shopping Arrives On Portable Devices

Google Shopping Arrives On Portable DevicesIs there no limit to Google’s reach? Apparently, the correct answer would be “No”, as we have just heard that the Internet search giant will be introducing Google Shopping product listings to an entire generation of mobile devices. Considering how more and more teens are jumping aboard the smartphone bandwagon and spending their time on the Internet there, it is a no-brainer to hear that Google is pushing Google Shopping to that platform.

This new service will enable potential consumers to narrow down their searches whenever they are looking for something, and along the way, save money, too. Shareholders might be pleased as this move could eventually help boost Google’s mobile ad revenue, while opening the doors to a slew of new possibilities and ideas. All ad listings will be location-aware, so you won’t find something advertised in a different country for sure. The level of annoyance for ads will remain the same, as they always did.

Google Shopping spiffs up ahead of the holidays with Shortlists and 360degree views

Google is getting ready for the holiday season by adding a bevy of features to its premier shopping products. The company’s web-based Shopping search tool has received a number of tweaks, including reviews from friends and discount tracking. The most visually arresting change is certainly the addition of 360-degree interactive images. Only a few retailers have uploaded the content so far, and primarily the products available are toys, but it’s a nice way to get virtually up-close and personal with the new Furby. Our favorite feature though is Shortlists, a tool that lets you create Pinterest-like collections of products, take notes on them and, if you so wish, share that list with friends and family for a collaborative shopping experience. The painfully cheesy video after the break demoes how Shortlists can help a couple work together to pick a wedding gift for a friend. It’s hardly Earth shattering, but it’s definitely a well implemented tool and you’re not limited to items found through Google Shopping. The only thing that strikes us as odd is it’s reliance on Drive’s contact sharing model, rather than Google+. Head on after the break to see it in action.
