If you’re a dog lover, you know that there’s nothing that you want more, than your best friends happiness. Is it fair to deny your pooch a soulmate? I understand that the chance for love to blossom with another canine may not have crossed your mind, but I’ll bet Fido has tossed the idea around a fair bit. Doesn’t he deserve someone to love too?

Well, the folks over at Tagg think so…  Tagg is a pet tracking system that allows you to track your pet’s location, and activity from your computer or mobile device, utilizing a lightweight pet tracker that attaches to your dog’s collar, and it can be worn at all times, even while bathing or swimming. It quickly and easily turns your dog’s existing collar, into a useful GPS tool for finding your best friend! The humans behind this useful dog-finding gadget, want to help you find something else… a fabulous date for your pooch!

Utilizing the same idea as human dating sites, you simply need to enter in your pets age, geographical location, and their likes and dislikes… think: Rambo loves long walks in the woods, chewing on fine furniture, and lifting his leg everywhere, or Fifi dislikes taking a bath, veterinary visits, pooping on the couch, and poodles of all kinds… and your eligible fur-buddy could be instantly matched with a canine companion somewhere near you… oh come on, doesn’t love deserve a chance? To sign up your furry friend, visit doglovedog.com, trust me, you’ll be glad you did. Sigh…  the joys of puppy love.

G-Paws Pet GPS Tracker ensures you know where your furry kid is at all times

gpawsAre you a dog or a cat lover? Some folks like both animals equally as much by making them pets in their homes, while others prefer to remain exclusively rooted to just one particular camp. It does not matter, as the £49.99 G-Paws Pet GPS Tracker would still come handy in making sure that you know just where your four pawed friend has wandered off to. Of course, most of the time, dogs are a whole lot more obedient – call them and they will come running to you. Cats, well, they turn up as and when they please. Still, it would be a shame to lose track of either.

The G-Paws Pet GPS Tracker is the ideal tool for you to know just where your pet has gone whenever they are not at home, and you can be very sure of the exact co-ordinates this time around, so that the neighbor five doors down can no longer accuse your dog of doing his business on his lawn, or to have a cat chew on his flowers, since the G-Paws Pet GPS Tracker would show that your pet has gone the other way around, trying to spread its “seed” to enlarge the number of its descendants. The G-Paws Pet GPS Tracker is robust and fully weatherproof as it should be, as it records its position every 5 seconds for up to 8 hours.Once done, plug it into your computer via USB, and you can check out the day’s movements.

Garmin delivers two more GPS running watches – the Garmin Forerunner 620 and Forerunner 220

garmin-forerunner-620Some of us like the feeling of running – it makes us feel extremely light, not to mention that running happens to be great exercise for one to burn all those additional calories that have accumulated around the waist. Having said that, Garmin, a name that is synonymous with GPS navigation devices, has just unveiled a couple of GPS running watches, and they are known as the Garmin Forerunner 620 and Forerunner 220. Both of them are said to be the lightest, thinnest, most advanced offerings for runners from Garmin, making it your very own non-living personal running coach.

Let us take a look at the Forerunner 620 first – it will arrive with a bunch of advanced features including recovery advisor, race predictor and VO2 max estimate that will come in handy in helping runners train smarter and to achieve new race goals. When used in tandem with the NEW HRM-Run monitor, the Forerunner 620 will also be able to deliver the relevant feedback on running form. Assuming you prefer to hit the treadmill instead of pound the pavement, both the 620 and 220 will feature a built-in accelerometer that is capable of tracking distance and pace, meaning you do not need to obtain a separate sensor. Either way, these two models will come with Garmin’s special one-inch Chroma color display.

Not only that, equipped with Bluetooth Smart wireless upload capabilities, the Forerunner 620 and 220 are capable of sending runners’ run data to the Garmin online community known as Garmin Connect, all without requiring one to be tethered to a computer as a compatible smartphone will do the job. Not only that, the Forerunner 620 and 220 are pretty tough, being water-resistant to 50m with rechargeable batteries that are said to last up to six weeks in watch mode and up to 10 hours in training mode. Expect the Forerunner 620 to arrive in blue/black and white/orange color configurations, while the Forerunner 220 will feature black/red and white/violet shades. Depending on whether you are picking up the HRM-Run Bundle or Heart Rate Bundle, they will retail for $399.99/$449.99 and $249.99/$299.99, respectively.

Tile – Tells You Where it’s At

Unknown-2

I recently told you guys about iTrail, a nifty little electronic that lets you know what your kids, (or pets) are up to. I feel pretty prepared to keep tabs on them. What I have not mastered is the ability to keep track of my keys, phone and wallet! If I had a dollar for every time I had to yell to my family “has anyone seen my….?” I’d be a very rich woman indeed.

Well, here comes an iOS gizmo named Tile to my rescue, a very small electronic tag with a self contained speaker that will easily let you hear it when you are in proximity. (So no more trying to locate your phone by calling it, only to find that the battery is dead.) The associated Tile app, saves the last place your items were, and you can even watch yourself get closer or further away during your hunt, helping you to easily zero in on your target.

Set up is simple, you just grab your Tile out of the box, and press the “e”, then go to the Tile app and add the Tile by holding it up to your iPhone. Tiles can be hung from an item, like a keychain,  it can be dropped into a purse or wallet, or it can be stuck to things like a phone or laptop. You can use up to 10 Tiles on any account, and you can access the account from other phones (I wondered about how it would work if I lost the phone that I use to view the tracking info) the range is only about 150 feet, but The interesting concept of this tracking device is that the signal can be picked up by anyones nearby Tile, so the range could become limitless, assuming enough people get on board.

The Tiles are pretty expensive and they only last about a year, but the developers vow to make replacements less expensive as time goes on, and lets face it I really only need 3. Hey! Has anyone seen my wallet? Pre-order now for under 20 bucks at thetileapp.com

iTrail – Keeping Tabs on your Car, Kids, or Keys.

Unknown-1

My daughter’s only 10, but already I imagine the day she starts to hang out alone with friends, or worse… starts to drive . Who among us doesn’t have a horror story that involves a teen driver? Unfortunately, I remember being a teen (keep your snickering to yourself) and I couldn’t imagine anything bad ever happening to me. I took chances I shouldn’t have, and while I’m still around, I know kids who weren’t so lucky. Is there a way to keep kids safe, when driving, or even just shopping around the local mall?

Well, in order to make an impression, I believe parents need to know whats going on, and iTrail may be the gadget that can keep them informed. iTrail is a small, lightweight, and waterproof multi-use GPS tracker. Designed to be carried in a pocket, dangled from a pet, keychain, or attched to a car, bike or motorcycle via an optional magnetic case, the iTrail can keep track of almost anything worth keeping track of. iTrail can provide concerned parents (or pet owners) with real-time tracking, location history and speed monitoring. iTrail logs this information and then displays it on an easy-to-use PC interface powered by Google Maps and Google Earth.

I know that some applications for the iTrail feel dangerously like spying, and folks may feel that some of these new technologies really infringe on privacy, but I’m not sure where I weigh in on this debate. I do know that there are certainly some parents, that in hindsight, would have done anything to keep their child safe. iTrail can record for about 120 hours, requires no subscription, and is available for under 190 bucks (with the magnetic case) from amazon.com. So please tell me, just how far, is too far when keeping tabs on your kids? and what if it were an employee or a spouse?

eZoom help parents keep tabs on their kids

ezoomIt is rather alarming to learn that according to the CDC, the leading cause of death for teenagers in the US happen to be motor vehicle accidents. It is said that on a per-mile basis, drivers who are aged from 16 to 19 have three times more propensity to be involved in a fatal crash compared to those who are aged 20 and higher. Fatal accidents are one thing, there are also tens of thousands who are injured every year in vehicle accidents. While parents and driving schools do all they can to prepare their teen drivers to drive safely, equipping them with education and driving tips, they will still need to let their once little ones “fly”, which is why a device like the eZoom makes perfect sense – it allows parents to keep tabs on teen drivers using advanced GPS technology.

The eZoom happens to be a lightweight, multi-use GPS tracker complete with a compact, waterproof design. You can clip it to a keychain, or have it permanently installed in a vehicle for real-time tracking, location history and speed monitoring. Apart from that, parents too, are able to establish speed limits for their teen driver, in addition to receiving email and text message alerts each time the limit is exceeded. Parents will also be able to breathe easier when they receive alerts as teens arrive at and leave different destinations. Alternatively, parents can remotely arm a stationary vehicle with the mobile app, receiving notifications if the car moves – so that they know whether their kids have snuck out or not.

Teen drivers can can also do their bit by checking in so that their parents know each time they have arrived safely with but a single press of a button that will send a location alert. The eZoom will play nice with an Apple, Android or BlackBerry app or online dashboard, letting parents view their teen driver’s location in real time thanks to advanced assisted-GPS tracking, while receiving turn-by-turn directions that are accurate to within 15 yards. Not only that, to prevent any Hansel & Gretel incidences down the road, the eZoom will also come with a breadcrumb trail which provides vehicle location history.

Ness – Tells You Where You Want to Eat, and Why

He says “So what are we going to do tonight?” “I dunno, let’s go eat.” she says. “Where should we go?” he asks. To which the reply is quite often “I cant think of anywhere, you decide.” Does that sound familiar? It seems like every weekend we end up in the same old place and to be honest, if I do stray from our old haunts its usually a disappointing experience. There have actually been times we didn’t go anywhere simply because we couldn’t come up with anything that sounded fun.

Well, I haven’t really tried it yet, but I’d like to introduce you to Ness, made exclusively for your iPhone or iPod touch, Ness will anticipate what your dining needs may be, and present you with elegant, swipeable recommendation cards that will summarize the information you need to quickly find a restaurant you will love.  Much better than a husband… it learns what you like, then picks a restaurant and tells you why you’ll like it!

The developers tell us, Ness adapts to your tastes to provide instant recommendations for you, not the crowd. So here’s an app that looks out for what you like, and even exactly when you might like it.  It can actually tell you a great place for brunch, or a great late night snack. So with a couple of swipes you can see a pic of the place, know about how much and how far and be on your way… or save the recommendation for later.

So, in the interest of marital bliss, I’m trying Ness out this weekend, and I may just find a couple of new places to relax with a good meal. I’ll let you know how it goes. Checkout Ness for yourself, its free and available at the app store.

The New Seiko Astron – What Time is it Where You Are?

In our fast paced world it seems as though there is nothing more important than time. We keep track of it constantly, how much of it we need, how long things will take, and how little time we have left. People have been marking the minutes since.. well, the beginning of time. People are still wearing watches, more than just a fashion statement, the watch seems to be referred to more often than our phones, checking to see just how late you are to your next meeting or how long you need to wait for lunch.

If you’re the watch wearing kind, you might want to check out Seiko’s newest offering, the Astron. I guess it’s not exactly new, Seiko has been making the Astron since 1969, but now we have a brand new Astron, the worlds first GPS, solar watch. Yup, I have to admit, it not only looks gorgeous, but this quartz watch has an accuracy within one second every 100,000 years!

It’s true, the Astron does not require winding, or a battery, in fact it doesn’t need an external power source at all, because it is completely self-sustaining. The watch uses only the power of light and is able to connect to the GPS network and adjust itself (at the touch of a button) to whichever of the 39 time zones you may find yourself in. I guess it should also work for those pesky Daylight Savings time changes.

So here’s a watch that sets itself, has a perpetual calendar that will be correct until February 28th, 2100 and runs on the power of light hitting its dial. (and that’s any light, not just the sun!) Available in titanium, stainless steel or even special edition styles, the new Astron is available now and if its time for you to have one, you can get it from amazon.com for right around 2,500 bucks.
