ZTE Grand X for T-Mobile approved by the FCC

However if you want something else, ZTE might have something for you in the form of the Grand X. The device has recently been approved by the FCC and appears to be headed towards T-Mobile. Given its rather unassuming specs, we expect that this phone should be priced free on contract or perhaps at an extremely affordable price. So what can customers expect? The ZTE Grand X will sport a 4.3” IPS LCD display with a resolution of 960×540, a 5MP rear-facing camera, 1GHz dual-core processor and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. No word on when exactly T-Mobile will be launching this phone, but if it is launched in 2013 then do not expect T-Mobile to offer any subsidy as per their plan, but at the very least you can expect it to be pretty affordable.

ZTE Grand X reaches UK shops a tad early through Phones4U

ZTE Grand X reaches UK shops a tad early through Phones4U

Virgin Mobile had originally promised the UK version of the ZTE Grand X for early August. The carrier just can’t contain its enthusiasm: it’s letting retail partner Phones4U sell the budget smartphone as of today. While you’re busy skipping the start of the Olympics, the store will give you a Grand X for free if you’re willing to spend at least £20.50 ($32) per month on a tariff instead of opting for the £190 ($299) pay-as-you-go hardware price. As we saw in China, the appeal of the Grand X is in those numbers — it’s more the temptation of stock Android 4.0 in a low-priced (if capable) suit than the hardware. Phones4U does hope to sweeten the pot through a contest. We hope you like the musical styles of Professor Green, as the British retailer is giving early Grand X adopters a chance to win both a custom Professor Green case as well as tickets to a private concert.

Huawei’s Ascend P1 makes its way to the UK, Canada

Huawei's Ascend P1 makes its way to the UK

Huawei’s Ascend P1 is making its way to the UK (and Canada) just in time for the country’s belated summer. The 7.7mm (with a hump) dual-core handset packs a 4.3-inch qHD display and the same CPU as the Galaxy Nexus — so while it won’t catch the One X napping, it’s no slouch either. It looks like the company had an eye on gazumping budget rival ZTE, which unveiled its Grand X yesterday, undercutting it by a solitary pound. It’s arriving on Wind from today, free with a $49 contract and Vodafone in August, free on plans costing £26 or more a month.

ZTE Grand X announced for £189.99 a pop

When it comes to the world of smartphones, admit it – the name ZTE would not be right at the top of your list, and some of you might not have even heard of the company before. Well, fret not – ZTE intends to make sure that they are going to light up the world of smartphones, having just announced the ZTE Grand X which will retail for £189.99 as a prepaid device. This announcement came about at the 24 Club in London, where ZTE made sure that the world (or at least across the pond in Olympic city) is aware of the imminent arrival of the Grand X, which is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 chipset. Will the ZTE Grand X be able to live up to expectations as a portable gaming device which doubles up as a smartphone? Perhaps, but past experience has showed that even a big name like Nokia and their N-Gage project failed to eat into the PSP and Nintendo DSL’s markets.

Virgin Media is offering the ZTE Grand X for £189.99 a pop, while you can also pick it up on low price contracts as well. Other features include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, a 4.3″ qHD display, a 5-megapixel camera, a front facing VGA camera, Dolby Sound, HD video capture capability and HD voice support.
