Grass Space Invaders Coasters: The Grass Is Always Greener on the Other Side of Invasion

These coasters make a very simple statement. If you don’t beat the Space Invaders, your ass is grass. And they are the cosmic lawnmower. Can’t beat the high score? Let’s face it, this game is turf. I have a million of ‘em… and they are all that bad.

On the other hand, these coasters are pretty cool. You don’t see the Space Invaders come in a grass version very often. These are the work of Etsy artist LoveFromCyprus.

These Space Invaders don’t even bother forming ranks. They all shoot solo from the grassy knoll. They measure approximately 5″(w) x 3″(h) and will keep your furniture free from damage – though you will now have a house full of aliens.

You get six coasters for ~$20.87(USD), or eight coasters for ~$27.82(USD).

How to Create an Automatic Lawn Mower That’ll Mow the Lawn for You

You don’t even need to buy a Roomba lawn mower, all you need to do to rid yourself from the chore of mowing lawns is to make the lawn mower mow itself. How? Be like this guy who strapped his self-propelled lawn mower with rope to a stake in the middle of the yard. The lawn mower ingeniously mows the lawn in smaller spirals as the rope wraps around the wooden stake.

Pot of Grass Pens: Prevent People from Stealing Your Pens, Once and For All

Do your pens go missing every once in a while, even though you’re sure you left them at your desk? Pen thieves are everywhere, especially at the office, so if you don’t take care and keep your stuff when they’re not in use, then chances are they’ll go missing once you leave your desk or cubicle.

My suggestion for your pens is to replace them with these ones. They look like blades of grass stuck in a plant pot, but remove one and you’ll see that it’s actually a pen in disguise.

Grass Pen

The pens come in three different shades of green to make it look like you’ve got actual grass in that pot. While people will eventually catch on that those are pens and not grass, they’ll still ward off would-be thieves because it would be extremely obvious if they go to work one day with a green grass pen in their pocket.

Each Pooleaf pen costs about $5 (USD), which means you’ll spend quite a bit if you want to fill an entire pot with them. They don’t come with the pot either, but those are easy to find anyway.

Silicone Pens Give You The Maintenance-Free Lawn You’ve Always Wanted

Silicone Pens Give You The Maintenance-Free Lawn You've Always Wanted

If you love the look of plants on your desk, but have a nasty habit of killing them through neglect, consider this faux greenery as an alternative. What look like tall blades of grass are actually unfortunately-named Pooleaf pens with long wisps of silicone coming off the end.

These Flip Flops Make You Feel Like You’re Walking on Grass All Day Long

So you’re going to be walking around the beach this Summer. While you might like the feeling of sand between your toes, maybe you prefer the sensation of grass instead. Well, the guys over at Generate have got your tootsies covered.

kusa grass slippers 1

Kusa Grass Flip Flops were designed by Yashin, and look just like you’re walking around on grass. They’re made from synthetic turf and not real grass, but I can’t imagine that the real thing would last long stuffed under your sweaty feet all the time.

Never mind the fact that they’d be a pain to water and mow. And who wants weeds growing between their toes anyhow?

Grassy iPhone Case: Pocket Park

We’ve already seen a furry iPhone 5 case. But if you love plants more than Wookies, a Japanese company called Ag Ltd. has something for you. They’re making what they call the World Parks series, which are iPhone 5 cases that are modeled after grassy parks.

The first World Parks case is modeled after Yoyogi Park, a historic landmark in Tokyo, Japan. Ag Ltd. achieved the grassy look and texture by adhering five different colors of fibers to the case using a process called electrostatic flocking.

The first batch is composed of only 100 units. It will go on sale by the end of this month in Japanese stores for ¥3,980 (~$41 USD). If you don’t get your hands on one, don’t worry – Ag. Ltd. is planning on mass producing succeeding batches, which will be modeled on other famous parks in the world including the world famous Central Park in New York and the Hyde Park in London. I wonder if we’ll be able to tell which case was modeled after which park.

Shibaful lush lawn iPhone case puts Yoyogi Park in your pocket

“Shibaful is the world’s first iPhone case modeled after a grassy park. This case is based on Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, and it’s the first in our World Parks series. For the next versions, we’re considering basing the grass on New York’s Central Park and London’s Hyde Park.”

“Regarding the technology, the case is made using electrostatic flocking. When the five different colored fiber particles are dropped from above, they form this kind of texture. There are all kinds of iPhone cases, but we think this is the first with a grassy texture. Also, it feels different when you stroke it and when you grip it. The green color is really fresh, and easy on the eyes, too. Another part of the concept is that you’ll sometimes want to turn your iPhone over, and rest your eyes by looking at the green.”

“The studio we work from, called co-lab Shibuya Atelier, is a shared office. We have shared access to 3D printers, laser cutters, and digital machines, so we can turn PC data into tangible objects. Here, we can try all kinds of ideas quickly and cheaply, taking those ideas closer to commercial production. In Japan, there are lots of small businesses with all sorts of technologies. We’ve produced this iPhone case to express our goal of creating new, exciting things, by combining small businesses’ technology with our ideas and prototyping abilities.”

“When we market this, we’ll initially do a limited run of 100. They’ll be available from the end of April, at eight stores throughout Japan. The price will be 3,980 yen. Meanwhile, we’re gearing up for mass production to meet future needs.”

How to Awaken Your Lawn from Its Winter Slumber

Whether your lawn is the emerald crown jewel of the neighborhood or has more brown spots than a cheetah, now is the time to give your yard a spring cleaning. If you’re just trying to get rid of the dead spots or starting over from scratch, here’s what you’ll need to do to ensure your yard stays lush—or at least alive—for another year. More »

Natural Keyboard Grown from a Laser Cutter

We’ve seen wooden computer peripherals before, but designer and programmer Robbie Tilton took it a step further. Turned off by the synthetic, “visually bland and tactilely inept” design of some gadgets, Tilton made a keyboard that looks like it sprung out from the ground.

Tilton based his project on Apple’s wireless keyboard. He probably chose it in keeping with his nature theme amirite? He used a laser cutter to make the wooden frame and then bent the wood to assume the shape of the original keyboard. I’m not sure if the keys are all wood or if the Apple keys are sandwiched in between thin pieces of wood. Ironically, Tilton wasn’t able to find real moss, so he had to settle for imitation moss to cover the keyboard.

The irony of the moss aside, I think the keyboard looks good. I think a mouse with a soft grassy surface would be nice as well. I don’t want it to be made from a “natural” mouse though.

If Cars Were Biodegradable, They’d Look Like This in A Couple of Years

When a car goes out of commission, it’s usually sent over to a junkyard. That’s a huge chunk of solid waste that requires a lot of energy before it can be recycled. A possible solution? Biodegradable cars. That kind of technology is probably still a few centuries away, but these images from at CMP Block in Taiwan give us all a preview of what to expect if and when that does eventually happen.

What you’re looking at is actually an art installation that attempts to merge “art, aesthetics, and nature.” I think it does manage to do all that and more.
