Synrgic preps its T100 handset for the beast phone race

Synrgic may not be a brand name that resonates with mobile-obsessed statesiders, but that’s no reason to shrug off the nascent electronics maker’s efforts. Known primarily for its tablet PCs in China, the company is purportedly gearing up for a launch of its first ever smartphone — the T100. According to a leaked shot over on Chinitech, the handset’ll pack a spec list that runs neck and neck with the heavy hitting phones we’ve seen flood the global marketplace. Sporting a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display, the device runs an undisclosed version of Gingerbread on a dual-core 1.2GHz Tegra 2 processor, packs 1GB RAM, up to 32GB of internal storage (due to an omitted microSD card slot), and 1.3 megapixel front-facing / 5 megapixel rear camera set-up capable of 720p video capture. There’s also an HDMI and USB port, ample 1500mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G GSM / WCDMA frequencies on board. If the gossip is to be believed, this phone’ll touch down on retailers’ shelves sometime in October or November — perhaps in time for an Ice Cream Sandwich.

LG VS920 pushes through FCC with Verizon LTE, could be the LG Revolution 2?

The LTE-toting LG Revolution is still the most recent phone to debut on Verizon’s 4G lineup — at least for another week or so, that is — but we’re already seeing clues to the phone’s sequel popping up. We saw the Revolution 2 show up on a leaked roadmap so the mysterious follow-up has been on our radar, but we weren’t expecting to see it quite this early. Yet here it is: the LG VS920, complete with Verizon’s LTE Band 13, global GSM / EDGE and 900 /1900 / 2100 WCDMA and HSPA, has received the FCC’s blessing. Now, it doesn’t specifically come out saying it’s the successor, nor does it signify its relation to the previous device; since the original Revolution is designated the LG VS910, however, we’re taking the liberty to put two and two together here. MOTOFONE F3, the zombie apocalypse survival phone (video)

App logs reportedly confirm dual mode CDMA / GSM iPhone 5 in testing

While the world waits to find out what the fifth-generation iPhone looks like, TechCrunch reports an anonymous app developer has pulled information from their registration logs confirming the existence of a new device that’s rocking both CDMA and GSM radios. That conclusion is based on registrations that came from the same device that show mobile network codes and mobile country codes from both AT&T and Verizon. This is hardly shocking however, since the Verizon iPhone 4 already has a dual mode chipset from Qualcomm with the GSM side turned off, and we’d heard back in January that Apple was planning to go the one-size-fits-all route this time around. Who this does matter for however, could be world travelers that will find keeping their device connected between countries and networks much easier with a world iPhone, whenever the new phone is revealed later this year. The bad news is still the same however, as this probably also means there’s no plans for speedy LTE access — pencil in a pithy explanation from Steve about why it’s not necessary here.

HTC Bliss spotted frolicking in the blurry wild?

We haven’t heard much about the HTC Bliss since it popped up on a Verizon roadmap earlier this month, but the folks over at PocketNow have obtained photos of what could be the handset’s first public appearance. The so-called “women only” smartphone, which recently passed through the FCC, is rumored to run on a 800MHz single-core processor and will reportedly sport a new version of HTC’s Sense UI. It’s also expected to run Android 2.3 and to rock a GSM 900MHz radio, though, as you can tell, it’s a little difficult to glean any of that from the above blurry images. No word yet on whether it’ll launch in September, as expected, or whether it’ll look a bit more feminine when it does, but we’ll keep you posted.

Elektrobit’s Specialized Device Platform tailors Android devices for security-minded markets, won’t hem pants

The defense industry may already have its share of deadly high-tech toys, but when it comes to the latest in mobile, it’s often left to watch from the highly-secured sidelines. Enter Elektrobit Corporation with a just announced Specialized Device Platform that crafts made-to-order, Android-based devices for the public safety, security and aforementioned defense markets. Citing its lower cost, faster development approach, EB’s service marries the “best of the traditional mobile world… with product-and industry-specific features” so clients won’t have to deal with last year’s Android OS. Oh wait, actually they will. The currently on offer Froyo-flavored, 1GHz single-core OMAP3 model packs a WVGA capacitive touchscreen (either 4-, or 4.3-inch), 5 megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS with quad-band GSM, tri-band UMTS / HSDPA and CDMA2K / EVDO support. Clients interested in a 700MHz LTE, Gingerbread option — that’s right, no Ice Cream Sandwich — will have to hold off until the first half of 2012, when the company’s 1.5GHz dual-core OMAP4 models will be available for production. Alright, so these specs aren’t exactly bleeding edge tech, but hey — who needs a quad-core phone when you’ve got this.

Droid Bionic loses FCC confidentiality, gets updated with pics and user manual

When it rains, it pours, and the latest in the torrential downpour of Droid Bionic news comes straight from the FCC itself: we’ve got a manual. The user’s guide starts by confirming the usual suspects: a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4G LTE, a 4.3″ screen and a rear-facing camera capable of capturing 1080p video. The good stuff comes in on page thirteen: the Motorola XT375 supports LTE, CDMA, GSM, and UTMS, a world phone with support for over 200 countries, but unlike its WiMax cousin, the Photon, UMTS support is limited to 2100MHz only. The familial similarities are still there, however, as it seems that the Bionic uses the same connector layout (microUSB / microHDMI) as the Photon, but shifted further down the edge of the phone. This means, unlike the Atrix, the Photon and Bionic just might be able to share WebTop docks and accessories. Need more than just bread and butter? An inductive charging back tagged along on the handset’s federal funday, and while there’s no indication that it ships with its own charging mat, we’d hazard a guess that it’s compatible with existing VZW inductive chargers. RIM’s BlackBerry Curve 9360 outed — is this Apollo?

Did RIM forget this budget entry update, or was it pushed aside for this morning’s announcements of its higher-end BlackBerry brothers? No matter the case, OneMobileRing got a hands-on with the Curve 9360, and it looks like this portrait QWERTY could be following in its brethren’s OS 7 footsteps. Shots of the device reveal a Tour-like chrome trim, optical trackpad and the requisite micro-USB port for your charging / connectivity needs. A pic of the device’s open battery door also shows off a SIM card slot, leading us to believe that this may very well be the ever-elusive Apollo. Could we see this mid-end, GSM workhorse in T-Mobile’s near future? Our in-house Ms. Cleo predicts a yes.

MetroPCS will begin transition to VoLTE early next year

US carriers were quick to acknowledge their allegiance to Voice over LTE (VoLTE), a 4G VoIP-related technology first demonstrated in February. Ever since that time, however, talk of deployment plans have been replaced by crickets. MetroPCS was the first to break the silence, as CEO Roger Linquist announced at this morning’s quarterly earnings call that his company’s “planning to begin introducing VoLTE-capable handsets early next year to move voice as well as data traffic to [its] LTE network.” The outfit’s wasting no time making the full transition to 4G, as it’s already begun migrating its SMS and MMS services to this service. An increasing sense of urgency is likely hitting the company hard, as implementing VoLTE will ease some of the burden of its limited spectrum by devoting more bandwidth to 4G. What’s better, the anticipated timeframe may even allow MetroPCS to beat Verizon to market — which has also targeted 2012 as a launch date for its equivalent service — as well as AT&T, currently aiming for a 2013 takeoff. No matter what, we’re ecstatic to soon be flooded with more HD-clarity calls than we care to take.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 blows through the FCC, GSM and CDMA on board

It looks like the BlackBerry Bold 9930 just finagled its way through the FCC, indicating the touchscreen, portrait QWERTY handset may be nearing release. This globe-trotting sibling of the 9900 comes packing a dual-band CDMA radio and a quad-band GSM tuner — in addition to the standard WiFi and Bluetooth antennae, and the increasingly popular NFC. Of course, being an FCC filing in which most identifying information has been removed, this is a bit of a guessing game. But, judging by the radios on board and the sketch of the label placement, it sure seems like the BlackBerry 7 OS-toting 9930 to us.
