Gran Turismo 6 Debut Not As Successful As GT5 In Japan

Gran Turismo 6 Debut Not As Successful As GT5 In JapanGran Turismo is a gaming franchise that has certainly earned plenty of accolades ever since it was released, and over the years, we have seen a fair number of versions roll out, with just about all of them being great successes. In their latest outing over at the Land of the Rising Sun, Gran Turismo 6’s sales has paled in comparison to that of its predecessor, Gran Turismo 5, managing to muster a mere 204,784 units compared to 430,707 units, respectively, with the latter moving that amount all the way back in November 2010.

This is on the back of news that Japan is one particular region that has not yet received both the Sony PS4 as well as the Xbox One, where the former will launch only until February 22nd next year. As for the Nintendo Wii U, it will continue its rise with a sales figure of up to 48,762 units for the week ending December 8, making it the second best-selling platform of the week, lagging behind the Nintendo 3DS’ sales of 125,269 units. Some would say that the Nintendo Wii U has started to pick up in its sales yet again because of the Dragon Quest X rollout, where it sold 70,648 units. Is this a precursor of things to come?

Sony makes Gran Turismo movie official, GT 6 game to land on December 6

Remember those rumors about Sony making a movie based upon the famed Gran Turismo racing games? Well, today at Gamescom 2013, Sony has officially announced that said film project is in the works. Unfortunately, Sony’s not telling us anything about the story itself (other than fast cars being featured), but we do know it’ll be a “full length feature film.” Kazunori Yamauchi, Polyphony Digital head is helping make it along with filmmakers Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti. When will their masterpiece be ready for theaters? We don’t know. What we do know, however, is that the latest iteration of the Gran Turismo gaming series, GT 6 will be making its debut on December 6th of this year.

Gran Turismo 6 coming to PS3 in time for the holidays, creator has PS4 version 'in mind'

Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has announced that the series’ next racing title will arrive later this year, with a demo scheduled to appear this July, ahead of a holiday launch. Expect a heady 1,200 cars to make the new edition, with 33 locations (and 71 layouts) to drive them around. Polyphony Digital has developed a new game engine for Gran Turismo 6, one that “pushes the limits of the PS3,” but the incoming game might make another appearance on the incoming PlayStation 4. At a 15th anniversary event at the Silverstone racetrack in the UK, Yamauchi teased to IGN that they had a PS4 version “in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on [the] PS3.” Gran Turismo remains Sony’s most successful franchise ever and has sold over 70 million copies to date. Sony adds that we’ll hear even more about the sequel at E3 — likely alongside a next-generation console we can see.

Gran Turismo 6 Appears On Newegg

Gran Turismo 6 Appears On NeweggIf you are one who absolutely loves the racing simulator Gran Turismo, and have followed the game right from the very beginning of the series, then you might be interested to hear that retail site Newegg.com has already made available a pre-order page for Gran Turismo 6. Of course, even more interesting is the fact that just as soon as the listing went live, it was taken down all too soon, but with the Internet being what it is, and folks never too far away from a Prt Sc key on the keyboard, you can be sure that there are screenshots shared online as “proof” that Newegg actually placed such a pre-order page.

What other information could be gleaned from this quick exercise? Well, it seems that the potential release date for Gran Turismo has been slated for a November 11 release later this year, and of course, we would take this particular date with a grain of salt especially when you consider how Sony has not commented a single thing concerning this leak, but it would not be too far fetched to believe either that Gran Turismo 6’s pre-order listing was removed just as quickly as it was put up with some intervention from the folks over at Sony.
