You know those genius, almost sentient quadcopters that can learn new skills like juggle balls, fly in tandem, work together, go through hoops, attach themselves to wall and basically do things that will eventually destroy mankind? This guy, Kai Hou, is like the human equivalent of those. He’s an acrobatic master that can flip, spin, jump, turn, tumble through the air and do basically anything that shreds our typical sense of gravity. I wish I could jump like him.
Gymnast bot has wowed us
On Youtube, a video of this robot with excellent gymnastics ability has been creating a lot of buzz in Japan.
Don’t miss his perfect dismount after 0.35 seconds. Could he help Japan win a gold medal?
We at Technabob have judged this guy and everyone gave him a 10. Except for me, but that’s only because when I held my score card up, it was upside down. Sorry I messed up your score little robot, but your feat is most impressive.
Watch as this little guy does a quadruple backflip. Soon robots will be taking our olympic medals too. Not that we will care. We will just be a stadium of heads on pikes. The ‘bots will compete and they will press an audio button for the crowd to go wild.
This little guy is crazy. Watch him twirl around that pole like a freak. He somersaults too…

We’re probably only seeing the one time it lands upright in about 100 attempts, but who cares? They’re only going to get better and better. And one day the summer Olympics might actually be worth watching. Give that robot the wood medal. (Because it’s not programmed to recognize the value of gold.) [YouTube via Automaton] More »
The last time we checked in on the state of robot gymnasts they performed admirably on the horizontal bar, but fell out of medal contention with a laughably horrible dismount. More »

Olympic gymnasts use any and all forms of hand goop, from honey to coke and beer and sugar to melted gummy bears and a special concoction created by a chemist and more.
