Do you recognize Cooper? Probably not, because he’s a year older than the last time you saw him driving a tiny time-traveling DeLorean and wearing an adorable Marty McFly costume
You want a jack-o-lantern that looks like it was carved by a 6-year-old, by all means stick with the spoon and kitchen knife combo that you’ve been using since you were a kid. But if you want a jack-o-lantern that will terrify the neighbors until mid-November, you’re going to need a better tool set.
Everyone knows what it feels like to be absolutely terrified. And while it might not be your favorite flavor of fun, you can’t deny it’s a rush. That’s because your brain takes fear as a cue to start dishing out its own kind of halloween candy in the form of delicious neurotransmitters.
I love it when people attach things like smartphones and cameras to the bottom of helium balloons and launch them into the atmosphere. A man and his grandson have carved a Halloween pumpkin named Patches and attached the pumpkin to the bottom of a giant helium balloon.
Along with the pumpkin, grandpa also attached a camera to record the pumpkin’s journey through the stratosphere. The man used a 1600 g balloon that was filled with 3.5 m³ of helium. That giant helium balloon was attached to a platform that held the pumpkin and a camera to record the trip. Jump to about one minute into the video to see the pumpkin head to the heavens.
On the coolest things about this video is that you can see ice form on Patches the pumpkin as it travels through the ice cold atmosphere. The pumpkin reportedly encountered temperatures as low as -20°C and accelerated at a rate of 5 m/s when let go. The pumpkin reached an altitude of 30 km before the balloon burst with Patches and the camera returning to Earth using a five-foot diameter parachute. You have to check out the video for yourself and be warned the video is a bit of a commercial for the TOP Fruit Hub app, but my eight-year-old daughter assures me the video is awesome.
Dry ice is one of the most tried and true Halloween special effects. Simply drop a chunk into a liquid, then it begins to "boil" and emit a dense, creepy fog. Not only that, it’s cheap, simple to use, and way easier to find than you probably thought. It also happens to be fantastic—and fantastically ghoulish—in a lot of cocktails.

What would you do if you saw a vending machine offering free treats? You’d most likely jump at the chance to grab a couple of them before the machine runs out.
So there you are, thinking that it’s your lucky day, as you reach into the machine to get your treat…
…but instead, begin screaming your head off when a dead-looking hand grabs yours.
I hate to break it to you, but you’ve just been had. This was probably the ghastly experience that people who chanced upon the Scares vending machine in Dublin, Ireland had. The entire set-up involved having comedian comedian Marcus Olaoire hide inside the machine and wait for unwitting victims to reach for a treat.
The entire thing was part of a Halloween publicity stunt for a snack company. Too bad they didn’t post a video of people’s reactions.

If Furbies have taught us anything, it’s that felt-covered animatronics are not to be trusted—they are to be feared. Especially when two of your childhood icons are revived as hip-pop-spouting zombies, as they are in this nightmare-inducing cover of the Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hit.
We hope you didn’t spend the last six months designing and building an elaborate over-the-top Halloween costume with which you hope to win over the internet next week.
