If I had to pick a hammer or a tiny piece of porcelain to shatter a car window, I’d probably think nothing of it and grab the mallet. NatGeo proves me wrong. A little itty bitty piece of porcelain chipped off a spark plug does much more damage to a car window and is so much more easy to use too. Just chuck it at the window! Tempered glass works funny like that.
Remember the 80s? Kids had a lot of martial arts weapons back then. In fact I’m surprised that so many of us survived. Between the throwing stars, butterfly knives and nunchuks that everyone was messing around with, it’s amazing there wasn’t a giant ninja war.
If you have fond memories of nunchuks, you might want to hang these hammer nunchuks on your wall. I don’t advise actually using them, since you are bound to kill yourself with a hammer to the head though.
They were made by Etsy artist thesmARTaleck and will cost you $300(USD). If you are a contractor/carpenter who wants a piece of wall art befitting of your craft, go ahead and make the purchase. Seriously, just display them. Don’t even think of using them.

We definitely need more cute stuff in superhero movies. Like Thor. Remember when Darcy calls his hammer “Mew-Mew?” Well, Etsy seller TwinsGeekShop has taken the nickname and created some literal Mew-Mew hammers. And they are pretty darn cute.
Of course these fabric hammers look like kitties, kitties that can beat you senseless. That is what they are made for, beating each other up with cuteness. Then throwing them on your couch so you can cuddle with them later.
Unfortunately, if you want some Mew-Mew Mjölnirs you may have to wait a while. The seller is based in Russia, and they’re currently sold out. PLus, shipping to the U.S. takes around 21 days. But it is totally worth it. Beating people with cuteness. Is there anything better?

One of the strangest mythological weapons out there in my opinion has always been hammer wielded by Thor. Mjölnir is an interesting weapon in that reminds me a bit of the Excalibur where only one person can ever wield the hammer. Even the Hulk is unable to pick it up.
Blacksmith and armorer Tony Swatton operates a company called Sword and the Stone that makes weapons using methods similar to what they used in the old days. His hit YouTube series Man at Arms has featured a number of awesome weapon builds, and his latest is a replica of Thor’s hammer similar to the one used in the upcoming film Thor: The Dark World.
The hammer was made out of sheets of chromoly steel and while it’s hollow, still weighs about 20 pounds. The entire process looks like it took a long time to complete and the finished hammer is impressive indeed. The only downside is that the hammer appears to be significantly larger than the one from the film.
Swatton says he plans on putting the hammer on display in his shop – but not before filling the hollow chamber with shot, to bring the weight up to about 200 pounds, so it’ll be impossible for mere mortals to pick it up.

Thor’s mighty hammer can take down enemies and destroy massive structures with a single swing. But now it can also be used to keep your bookshelf tidy too.
Gentle Giant’s upcoming Thor’s Hammer Bookend keeps your bound Marvel anthologies and graphic novels standing tall and looking proud on your bookshelf.
This cast-polystone bookend will ship sometime Q2 2014 for $99(USD). I think I’d put a large Loki figurine on the other end.

If Thor’s Mjolnir hammer wasn’t bad enough on its own, the heavyweight hammer is also capable of summoning lightning from the heavens. Caleb over at Hack A Day thought about this and decided he needed his own electrified Thor’s hammer.
Instead of standing in the middle of a field during a lightning storm, Caleb decided to go with something a bit safer. With the help of builder Staci Elaan, Caleb’s Mjolnir is outfitted with a working, battery-powered Tesla coil. Despite outputting 80,000 volts, the Tesla coil is actually quite safe – just zapping subjects with a tiny, tickly sensation, and not the full force of Thor’s mighty hammer. And since it’s a Tesla coil, it can even light up fluorescent bulbs placed near it.
That was fun, though I do wish the lightning bolts it emits would be a bit bigger. I guess you’d need a larger, plug-in Tesla coil – and Thor would probably have to wear a Faraday suit.
Check out more details on the build over on Hack A Day.
When someone says “The idea is extremely simple, a tiny tesla coil inside a fake hammer” we look up “simple in the dictionary just to check. This is Hack a day though, where simple can mean almost anything — in this case a genuine electrified Mjölnir replica. All you need to make your own is the aforementioned tesla coil (you have one right?), some foam, a battery pack and, well… the ability to follow instructions. Fittingly, the first attempt at Thor’s hammer went on a saga of its own, suffering damage at the hands of the delivery service en route to a studio. No bother for our resident hacksters though, who patched it back up in no time to the fully functioning — if a little over-sized — model you’ll see in the video past the break.

Smartisan OS unveiled in China, takes a fresh approach to Android UI design
Posted in: Today's ChiliFollowing the likes of Meizu and Xiaomi, another star is born in the Chinese smartphone market. In fact, some may already know the man behind this new Android-based Smartisan OS: Luo Yonghao, a self-taught ex-English teacher (and later becoming the principal of his own English school until last August), as well as the founder of influential blogging platform Bullog.cn (now Bullogger.com) and the chairman of Chinese font studio Redesign. Luo is also a relentless consumer advocate, with his most notable act being his fridge-smashing protest outside Siemens’ Beijing headquarters in November 2011, in order to highlight the company’s refusal to acknowledge their faulty fridge doors (all explained in the “More Coverage” link at the bottom).
Already a bit of a legend in China, the 40-year-old serial entrepreneur announced last April that he had formed Smartisan Co., Ltd. to work on a smartphone OS, and that it would shame all manufacturers with its revolutionary user experience. Having missed the December target that he promised, Luo eventually took the stage in Beijing last week to spend well over three — yes, three — hours going through the thought process behind his Smartisan OS, so bear with us here.

Dead On Annihilator Superhammer
Posted in: Today's ChiliIs a hammer just a hammer? I suppose so, but is there such a thing as a “superhammer”? I suppose so, as Thinkgeek has just announced the $39.99 Dead On Annihilator Superhammer which is a multi-purpose hand tool that made short work of difficult jobs. It is capable of hammering nails into wood, not to mention being able to pull out nails, pry objects open, bash things into place, perform a Hulk smash, and of course, after you sweat it out, being able to pop open your favorite bottle of ice cold beer.
Not only that, this seems to be the ideal tool to have in your hands at the seemingly impending zombie apocalypse, which we have already started to hear of some folks around the world actually devouring the faces of other people. This is a wicked anti-zombie device, where the spike that is mounted at the bottom is capable of piercing through the skull of a walker, not to mention making you into the main focal point of attack by more intelligent zombies. Otherwise, just pass this over to Alice of Resident Evil fame and see her rack up the body count.
