AT-AT Walker Bookcase: The Empire Strikes Book

There aren’t many more iconic creations from the Star Wars universe than the AT-AT Imperial walkers from The Empire Strikes Back. Sure, they ended up having an Achilles’ heel (or four of them), but I’d like to see you design a walking weapon that can’t be tripped. Fans of the AT-AT will definitely appreciate this piece of furniture – a bookcase made in the form of the Imperial walker.

Diana over at Bit Rebels spotted this awesome AT-AT bookshelf by Whittled in Wood. It’s perfect for holding onto your Star Wars books and collectibles, and while it might designed for a kid’s room, I don’t see any reason why you adults can’t enjoy it too. It’s handmade from birch plywood and other woods, and held together with screws and dowel rods. That sounds pretty sturdy to me, but you still won’t want to let any Rebel snow speeders get near it with tow cables.

The AT-AT bookshelf is available over on Whittled in Wood’s Etsy shop for $565(USD). While you’re over there, you might want to pick up a Millenium Falcon

The Last of Us Plushies: The Cutest of Them

I haven’t played The Last of Us yet – RIP, PS3, you served me well! – but from what I’ve heard about it anyone who’s played the game needs a massive dose of sunshine and rainbows afterwards. These plush dolls of Joel and Ellie should help.

These adorable post-apocalyptic survivors were made by deviantART member viciouspretty. She said that The Last of Us was the reason she bought a PS3. She’s made a lot of chibi-style dolls, but she got burnt out and took a break. Then her husband suggested that she make a doll of Joel, knowing that she loved The Last of Us’ male protagonist.

Look at those cute little bricks. They’re perfect for tossing at plush clickers. Of course, once she made a Joel doll she had to make one of Ellie. They go together like fungus-infected peanut butter & jelly.

I’m sad that I don’t get that comic book reference. Grab your supplies and head to deviantART to see more of viciouspretty’s work. Her Mass Effect dolls are good enough to be official merch.

LEGO Purses: Carry Around a Bag of Bricks

We’ve seen some purses that looked like giant LEGO bricks before, but these are the first purses I’ve come across that are actually made from LEGO bricks.

lego purse 1

These clutches have been made by sewing the bricks together and then lining the whole thing with satin. Its creator, Agnieszka Biernacka says it’s a very time-consuming process, but the end result is that the bricks are flexible but can’t fall apart.

I like how even the closure uses a LEGO brick which snaps in place to keep the contents of your purse secure. They’re available from agabag, with prices starting at $180(USD). They come in a variety of colors, and are also available in larger sizes and in custom designs like the Union Jack and U.S. flags shown below:

Millennium Falcon Mirror: You Looked in THAT Thing? You’re Braver Than I Thought

While they never came out and said it, I always imagined that Han Solo liked to look at himself in the mirror for hours every day. With all of that swagger, he had to be just a little self-absorbed. And what better mirror for him to check himself in but a Millennium Falcon?

This mirror based on the ship that did the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs was made by the guys from Funky Mirrors, and it is the perfect thing to round out any Star Wars themed room. It’s been lovingly hand-painted to replicate the details of the battle-worn spaceship, except for the part where the whole middle of the ship has been replaced with a mirror, of course.

The Millennium Falcon mirror measures 70cm (L) x 53cm (W) (~27.56″ x 20.87″) and is selling for $191 (USD) over on Etsy. I think if I had one of these, I’d rig it to display an image of Chewbacca every time you walked up to it.

Claptrap Gets Plush

Fans of Borderlands, drop what you’re doing and head on over to Etsy this minute. Claptrap is waiting there to help you complete your quest!

claptrap 1

This handmade plush version of the world’s most irritating sidekick was handmade by Sarah Tracy of Fuzzy Aliens. Instead of scrap metal, this Claptrap was made from felt and polyester fiberfill. He measures about 1-foot-tall (plus another 6 inches for his antenna), and even has posable arms. Though I’m not sure if he can really stand up with just that one wheel.

claptrap 2

Best if all, you won’t need to loot too many enemies to afford this Claptrap. He’s only $20(USD) over on Etsy.

Geometric Origami Lamps: Folding Light

Many years ago – it seems like a lifetime – I used to be a theatrical lighting designer. Even though I’m not in the business any more, I’m always on the lookout for cool lighting fixtures. While digging through the recesses of Etsy, I came across a unique series of lamps from artist Roger Gano of Golden Heart Illuminations.

My personal favorite is his red and gold Dream Weaver origami table lamp shown here. The fixture has two main components. The globe is handmade from 120 interlocking origami components, constructed from translucent parchment paper held together with shoji paper and Japanese Nori glue. The base of the lamp is constructed from veneered MDF formed into a wavelike shape, and then strung with thread. The spines of the lamp are textured with sand and eight coats of acrylic paint, infused with iridescent mica particles. The finished lamp base is reminiscent of the structural composition of a suspension bridge.

It’s really a spectacular design, and definitely something your friends won’t already have in their homes. The lamp shown here is selling for $365(USD), but Golden Heart Illuminations has many other lamps, including ceiling floor and table lamps ranging in price from $55 all the way up to $825.

Paper Skyrim Frost Dragon: Made from The Elder Scrolls?

It never ceases to amaze me just how much detail you can get in a paper sculpture. It blows my mind. Look at the level of detail on this papercrafted Skyrim frost dragon sculpture. It’s just amazing.

It was made by DeviantArtist DaiShiHUN who must be a level 10 Paper Mage. For this project he experimented with new textures and created a more stable base for it, which is a ruined Word Wall. This thing stands about 45 cm (~17 in) tall. He made it more sturdy by filling it with expanding foam.

Well, it looks pretty amazing. This makes me want to dust off my copy of Skyrim and play it again.

BMO Says It’s Tea Time!

If you watch Adventure Time, you know that BMO is an incredibly versatile robot. He/She/It can function as a video game console, toaster, flashlight, alarm clock, music player, electrical outlet and more. And now, BMO can serve you a cup of tea.

This awesome four-cup BMO teapot was handcrafted by Rebekka Ferbrache of Jade Flower Ceramics, and is a perfect likeness of the Game Boy-inspired robot pal. Rebekka says she was inspired by the Bitter sketch from Five More Short Graybles, in which BMO teaches its alter ego Football how to drink tea with pinkies extended.

But wait, there’s more – you don’t just get BMO when you buy this teapot. You’ll also get four nifty ceramic teacups so you have a place to pour your freshly-steeped brew instead of directly onto the surface of your coffee table.

The BMO tea set is available over on Jade Flower’s Etsy shop for $150(USD).

R-Kaid-42: A Complete Arcade in a Wooden Box

I guess you could say that most old arcade machines were made from wood, but it was mostly laminated pressboard, covered with shiny vinyl decals. Designer Love Hultén’s latest arcade build offers a much more timeless wooden styling.

r kaid 42 1

The R-Kaid-42 is a complete arcade console built into an elegant handcrafted walnut wood box. Inside, you’ll find a pair of high quality arcade joysticks and buttons, at the bottom of the stack is a compact PC with an SSD drive for emulating games. The joysticks themselves are wireless, and have solid brass handles and ball tops.

r kaid 42 4

To play, simply detach the magnetic sections of the R-Kaid-42, screw in the joystick handles, and connect it to a VGA monitor and power. The system comes with a clean and minimal front-end for a variety of emulators which can play over 20,000 different games. All of this can be operated entirely using the arcade controls.

Best of all, you can actually buy the R-Kaid-42 for yourself over on Etsy. It’s selling for $970(USD), and while that might seem like a lot of money, I think it’s a steal for all of the work that went into this thing.

It’s Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This Throw.

It’s probably the most oft repeated seven-word phrase in the history of gaming – but the admonition by the old man in The Legend of Zelda are wise words for life in general. After all, you should always bring a trusty companion on your life’s adventures.

zelda throw

With the help of this handmade throw from Penelope and Clyde, you’ll be able to cuddle up under this pixelated prose whenever you nod off or need to keep warm in your cold dungeon. The 4’3″ wide by 3’4″ long throw is made from acrylic yarn, love and a big bag of pixels.

So grab your sword and shield and battle your way through some Octoroks on the way to Etsy, where you can grab this for $160(USD). Now when are they going to make this version?
