In the heyday of consumer electronics, the words “premium audio” and “Panasonic” wouldn’t have seemed so incongruous. However, with the rise of boutique audio hardware and the contraction of the CE market as a whole, the world we live in is a world where it’s surprising that Panasonic can actually make good headphones. And, thankfully, they’ve done just… Read More
NuForce, a name that would be familiar with those who are interested in professional and consumer audio gear, has recently announced the introduction of the NuForce Primo 8, which so happens to be its flagship audiophile-quality in-ear headphones. The NuForce Primo 8 will see the unification of coherence and seamlessness of one-driver earphones alongside the detail and transient speed of balanced armature drivers, resulting in an extraordinarily natural, lifelike sound. This translates to the Primo 8 excelling in its ability to reproduce vocals unlike any other in-ear headphone on the market at this point in time.
NuForce has ensured that every individual Primo 8 earpiece will come with a quartet of proprietary balanced armature speakers in order to form a unique 3-way design. The four balanced-armature drivers that are located in each earphone are capable of delivering smooth, extended response, explosive dynamic realism and fatigue-free sound. Out of that, two of them would operate as one for bass frequencies, where one speaker will cater for the midrange while the other is for treble.
When there are two speakers that work in tandem in order to reproduce the lowest frequency ranges, the listener will be able to experience the purest, most natural bass possible. The Primo 8’s fast, rock-solid bass serves as the foundation for dynamic sound reproduction that was previously available only in the most costly over-ear dynamic and electrostatic designs.
Apart from that, the Primo 8’s proprietary crossover design would also see the earphone’s four speakers singing together in unity as one. Such technology would be clearly audible, where listening to plucked strings would make you feel as though you are attending a “live” event, while percussion explodes in a truly three-dimensional sound stage. The NuForce Primo 8 would retail for a whopping $499, but that is the price one has to pay for quality.

Accidentally Extraordinary looks to Kickstarter to roll out the AE 51st Studios Unplugged headphones
Posted in: Today's ChiliNot all headphones are created equal, and you can tell by referring to Accidentally Extraordinary, the headphone startup that is the main driving force behind the highly-rated 51st Studios over-ear walnut headphones. Well, they have decided to turn to Kickstarter in order to raise funds for the manufacturing and roll out of their first ever production wood headphones that will boast of Bluetooth connectivity, calling it the AE 51st Studios Unplugged.
I would like to think that the AE 51st Studios Unplugged intends to continue from where its highly successful predecessor, the AE 51st Studios, left off. Relying on the popular design, Accidentally Extraordinary (AE) hopes to raise $60,000 in the next 22 days on Kickstarter so that they can begin to produce the AE 51st Studios Unplugged.
Founder and CEO of AE Kunal Dalal shared, “This launch is important for us. We were thrilled with the love our first headphones received, and now we are trying to build on that success in market as seemingly crowded as this. Because, actually, when it comes to headphones like ours at this price-point, I don’t think there’s that much in the way of competition.”
The AE 51st Studios Unplugged model will support wireless connectivity obviously as it handles Bluetooth connectivity with ease, sporting a multi-function button that can handle power/playback/call functions, with an embedded microphone that caters for wireless calls. There is a sleek looking slider on the left ear cup for next/previous track, while the Volume Slider on the headphone will work too, regardless of whether it is in wired or wireless mode. Walnut wood is used for a distinguished look and a richer listening experience, while the clever implementation of anodized stainless steel for its headband delivers a clean, crisp, ultra-modern finish. Just in case the rest of your devices have not caught up with the Bluetooth program just yet, there will be a detachable 3.5mm cable that caters for wired listening.

The Lamborghini brand is one that oozes luxury and performance, which is why we can’t say we’re too surprised that the son of the Lamborghini owner, Tonino Lamborghini has recently announced a pair of in-ear headphones whose design not only is reminiscent of the Lamborghini cars (both are owned by different companies), but apparently will deliver a powerful listening experience as well.
Tonino Lamborghini has recently announced a trio of headphones, starting with the high-end Quantum HL-01 headphones. According to its description, the headphones will feature a luxurious and modern design and will also come with a secure fit, which means that it could be used during fitness or sports-related activities without it falling out of your ears. It also comes with a clip that will clip to your shirt and also comes with a bunch of silicone and foam ear tips.
Next up is the mid-ranged Quantum ML-01. This particular model will come with a Thin Film Acoustic Technology that has been patented for detailed sound and tight bass, so if those are attributes you want in a pair of headphones, then maybe the ML-01 is a pair of headphones to keep an eye out for. Last but not least is the Quantum EL-01. These are the lower-end headphone offerings by Tonino Lamborghini. They will sport the same Thin Film Acoustic Technology as the ML-01 and will also pack 10mm drivers.
In terms of pricing, these headphones are thankfully not as expensive as the Lamborghini cars. The HL-01 will be the highest priced at £124 followed by the ML-01 at £82, and the EL-01 at £58. These in-ear headphones are expected to be released in June. If you’d like to learn more about the headphones and check out more photos, be sure to head on over to their website for the details.

When it comes to headphones and earphones, this particular industry seems to settle comfortably into a unisex mindset, ranging from its fit to acoustics and design. Well, Skullcandy, ever the innovator, intends to turn things on its head by introducing a range of products that will feature reimagined acoustics, engineering, and industrial design. We are talking about the extremely functional yet relentlessly forward Skullcandy Women’s collection that was specially developed via careful thought and extensive research, having drawn inspiration from within Skullcandy’s very own team of Olympic and Athlete Ambassadors, where among them include the talented pro-snowboarder Kimmy Fasani and pro-surfer Leila Hurst. This particular collection would be a representation of youth, passion, strength, and singularity of the female consumer market.
Michelle Whitehead, Skullcandy’s Director of Brand and Sports Marketing shared, “The truth is there are real anatomical, acoustical, and behavioral differences in how male and female consumers experience our product. Our goal was to understand these differences well enough to design products, from the ground up, that would legitimately improve the audio experience for our female consumer. We are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
All three products, the Knockout, Bombshell, and Dime, did include acoustics, comfort, materialization, fit, and even hygiene during the development process. Apart from that, the collection’s audio drivers have also been custom-tuned to reflect field research that supports the fact that both women and men hear differently (no doubt about that!), as Skullcandy engineers worked round the clock in order to come up with what they deem is the perfect headband fit for the ladies, in addition to earbud size and shape.
Fine tuned and specially engineered for women, this range will be further complimented by premium fabrics and materialization. There are floral prints, rose gold finishes, and subtle stud embellishments which happen to be bold fashion-forward aesthetics that will add a dash of feminine edge to the predominantly unisex category, functioning as a mirror to what female consumers and their unique styles and perspectives carry. Expect Skullcandy Women’s to have launched in the U.S. already, where it will cost anywhere from $29.99 to $99.99, depending on the model that you choose.

Smartbean Bluetooth Wireless Receiver introduces Bluetooth connectivity to any headphones
Posted in: Today's ChiliThere are times in life when we do not see the need to actually perform an upgrade to our existing hardware or car, simply because we love the current model, and have no need for something newer and better. Let’s say you have a really good pair of headphones that you purchased a couple of years back, and love it to bits. Now that everyone’s jumped aboard the wireless bandwagon, what choice have you? Enter the $39.99 Smartbean Bluetooth Wireless Receiver, where it is capable of turning your favorite pair of headphones into a Bluetooth-compatible model.

Not all headphones are created equal, and the very idea of STREAMZ happens to be an extremely audacious one. I am referring to this breakthrough smart headphones which intends to kiss goodbye to the likes of toting around a separate music player, as the STREAMZ smart headphones will be able to make use of a built-in WiFi and Bluetooth Android Music Player, and it has just seen its Kickstarter campaign launch this week.
Anytime from now until May 1, backers will be able to place a pre-order for their STREAMZ that will come with up to 36GBs of built-in storage, a 48kHZ/16 bit Digital Analog Converter (DAC), and a microphone that supports Google Voice activated commands including the ability to search for music, skip tracks to the desired one, volume control, a selection of locally stored music or online music services such as Pandora or Spotify, and a slew of other functions that you never thought were possible before. Not only that, there will also be an Android App developer’s kit that is also available in a Kickstarter bundle so that more software developers will be encouraged to think up of unique new Apps for STREAMZ.
While majority of the smartphones and mobile music players out there do feature sub-par DACs and amplifiers, subjecting listeners to compromise on sound quality for convenience, the STREAMZ certainly looks in the opposite direction, letting music lovers enjoy pure, uncompressed high fidelity audio regardless of where they are with a headset that features a built-in music player, storage, DAC, amp, Bluetooth and WiFi. STREAMZ also happens to be the first headphone of its kind that can store and autonomously play 44 kHz/16 bit CD quality music in formats including FLAC, ALAC, WAV and music from the soon to be released PONO music store.
Pre-orders for STREAMZ will start from $299, which is a $200 discount from the expected recommended retail price for the 4GB model, although there will be 24GB and 36GB models that retail for $349 and $549, respectively, both saving you three Benjamins from the expected MSRP.
