Jabra has worked together with Dolby to provide an even better music listening experience to consumers. With these new line-up of headphones comes support for Dolby’s Digital Plus technology. Users can download Jabra’s exclusive sound app for iOS and Android devices to enhance their music listening experience, similar to how Beats Audio devices are optimized for Beats Audio’s headphones.

Jabra emphasizes that its new lineup of headsets are able to be “used and abused”. The Jabra REVO headphones are built using steel aluminum frame, steel hinges, a shatter-proof headband. The Jabra VOX has tangle-free, durable cables that won’t tear apart when pulled too roughly. So you can spend the small fortune to purchase these headsets, and not have to worry about them breaking within a short amount of time.

The Jabra REVO headphones and Jabra VOX earphones are now available on both Amazon and Dell’s websites. You can purchase the Jabra REVO Wireless Bluetooth headphone for $249.99, the Jabra REVO corded headphone for $199.99, and the Jabra VOX earphones for $99.99. For those of you who don’t know, Jabra is a renown brand in the audio business, and has recently won the Red Dot Design Award, an award given to the “best in design and business”.

RHA MA150 Earphones: Lots of Bang for Your Buck

When it comes to earphones, it’s best to have a couple of pairs around because you never know when you’ll lose your favorite pair or you’ll break them. These earbuds offer a surprising good audio response for their price, and are good entry-level, or backup earphones for your favorite pair.

rha ma150 earphones earbuds

RHA MA150 earphones come in a compact eco-friendly package, and you’ll be surprised at the sound that comes from them, with solid bass for their size. The cords are a wee bit thin for my taste, but compared to other headphones in the sub-$25 range, they are definitely something you should look at. The package comes with some adapters to make sure they fit snugly in your ears as well, which is cool for this price.

Frequency response for the RHA MA150 earphones is rated at 16-22,000Hz, with a sensitivity of 103dB. They’re available for $24.95(USD) over at RHA’s website.

Myth Labs Unveils Personalized Headphones

Myth Labs Unveils Personalized HeadphonesA pair of headphones is something that you tend to buy off the shelf without giving too much thought into the purchase decision, not unless you will have to fork out a handsome amount of money for it, so it would not be too awkward to see someone else on the same train wearing the same pair of headphones as you. Definitely not the fashion faux pas on the level where two divas attend the same ball wearing the same haute couture dress. Myth Labs has something for those who love to be unique though, where their service includes letting you personalize your headphones to make sure no two are alike out there.

Myth Labs headphones have been said to be customized to fit individual lifestyles and music collections, thanks to the clever implementation of patent-pending sonic signature technology, that enables everyone to discover their unique sonic match. Myth Labs headphones are modular, which means you get to fiddle with interchangeable headbands and speakers, allowing you to easily upgrade or change the style or sound experience of your headphones. Go on, get personal with a pair from Myth Labs. [Press Release]

Graphene Earphones: Extremely Light and Incredibly Durable

Many people rely on headphones and earphones for music and audio playback these days. It’s just a convenient way to listen to your tunes, without bothering the people around you. Now, scientists have come up with some cool new earphone tech. Researchers at the University of California in Berkeley have created the first graphene-based earphones ever.

Without any optimization, a single sheet of graphene can provide a frequency response comparable to or better than a pair of commercial Sennheiser earphones.

The researchers used a graphene diaphragm that’s 7mm across and 30 nm thick, which was sandwiched between two silicon dioxide electrodes which cause the diaphragm to vibrate when power is applied. The material is extremely light and very strong – roughly 100 times stronger than steel – thanks to the unique properties of Graphene’s pure carbon structure.

While this prototype pair is unoptimized for playback, with some tweaks they could be. I’m just curious to see how expensive a production version would be.

Mico Headphones Picks Your Brain and Plays Music Based on Your Mood

Sometimes, songs can speak to you in ways that no mere words ever could. Whether you’re happy, sad, melancholic, in love, or broken-hearted, chances are you’ll find a someone who’s already singing a song about it.

Of course, you’d have to create different playlists and fill them with songs that will satisfy each of your moods. Or you can just put the Mico headphones over your head and let it do your work for you.

mico brainwave headphones

Mico is a pair of “mind-reading” (aka biofeedback) headphones that is controlled by your brain waves. It was shown off at South By Southwest, where people got a chance to put it over their heads and have it play songs based on their mood – without them having to choose the song themselves. The headphones work with a custom music app that searches through its library of 100 tracks to play a song that’ll match your current state of mind.

According to its creator, Neurowear:

Mico frees the user from having to select songs and artists and allows users to encounter new music just by wearing the device. The device detects brainwaves through the sensor on your forehead. Our app then automatically plays music that fits your mood.

No release dates have been specified yet, although Neurowear says that Mico is coming “in the neat future.”

Science: Graphene headphones can beat your fancy cans

Science Graphene headphones beat your fancy cans

Feeling smug about those brand-name cans you just bought? A pair of researchers from Berkeley just made ’em obsolete with some Graphene. Conventional gear needs an oscillator that has to be damped down to produce a constant sound between 20Hz and 20kHz. Graphene, on the other hand, can be tailored to do the same job without any complicated, and power draining, over-engineering. Qin Zhou and Alex Zettl found their power-sipping setup to be as good, if not better than the pair of Sennheisers they tested it against. We’re hopeful that Graphene headphones aren’t too far away, assuming Fiddy doesn’t get to the pair first and shut ’em down.

Neurowear’s Mico headphones know just how you are feeling

Have you ever seen a wedding video or photo montage? Those tend to be extremely sweet, and one of the main factors that make such videos appealing to the masses would be the background music that accompanies it, and more often than not, it would be the love song that is in vogue at that point in time. Well, Neurowear, a company that in the past has come up with its fair share of consumer electronics devices which are capable of taking into account your brainwaves, and then having said device interact accordingly, is back with their latest creation – a pair of headphones known as Mico which is capable of figuring out your current mood, and choosing the right song from your playlist so that it can alleviate moments of depression and perhaps help you keep a cool head when you have just blown your top.

Basically, the Neurowear Mico headphones will come with a built-in brainwave sensor that is capable of detecting your mood, and then play a song to match it. Chances are pretty high that the Mico headphones is the result of Neurowear dabbling with a project that was called Zen Tunes in the past, where it analyzed a person’s brainwave data while listening to specific songs, so this could very well be an offshoot.

The Mico headphones do look bulkier than normal although it will also be able to fit in nicely as a standard issue over-the-ear headphones. The thing that helps make the Mico headphones stand apart would be the inclusion of an EEG (electroencephalograph) sensor that protrudes from the front. Neurowear claims that this sensor will do the job of analyzing your brain patterns, determining your mood and then pick a song from Neurowear’s database to match that current state of mind, or even it out.

Details on pricing and availability of the Neurowear Mico headphones remain to be determined, but I am not too sure whether this is a sound idea (pardon the pun) for a commercial release.

V-moda unveils Vamp Verza: a dockable, device-agnostic headphone amp and DAC for mobile audiophiles (update: video)

Vmoda unveils Vamp Verza a dockable, device-agnostic headphone amp and DAC for mobile audiophiles

Last we heard from V-moda, the company was appealing to audiophile sensibilities with its $300 Crossfade M-100 portable headphones. Continuing in that respect, today it’s officially unveiling the Vamp Verza as a followup to last summer’s $650 iPhone 4/4S-purposed Vamp spy tool headphone amp, DAC & case combo. The aluminum-clad Verza is a device-agnostic solution that uses a sliding dock system with special $100 Metallo cases to give any supported devices a similar all-in-one feel to the original.

At launch, a GS III case is available, with an iPhone 5 model a few weeks out — the company is aiming to get GS IV and Note II cases out next. The unit’s 150mW x 2 amplifier will bypass your iDevice’s audio output via a USB port on its bottom, while an adjacent microUSB port can take advantage of the external sound card profile found in Android Jelly Bean. V-moda notes the microUSB port acts like a traditional USB audio device, so it’ll work with mostly any device. As you might guess, both ports have their own specific DACs routing audio at different power levels to its op-amp.
