Bedjet Bed Heater & Fan: a Weird Appliance in the Streets but a Source of Heat in the Sheets

Do you find it hard to stay warm during winter even with the heater on? Well then I envy you, because it’s always hot and humid where I am. But Mark Aramli knows that feel bro, which is why he and his colleagues Scott Milligan and Shaun K. designed the Bedjet, a localized heater and fan for beds.

The Bedjet has a nozzle that’s meant to stick under your blanket or comforter. The rest of its body stays on your floor, so you don’t have to worry about getting electrocuted or having your toes sucked in its blades. Unlike conventional heaters or electric blankets, the Bedjet can supposedly raise the temperature under your bedding by 30ºF in as little as 3 minutes. If you need it to keep cool, the Bedjet can also feed air in at room temperature.

Another neat thing about the Bedjet is that it comes with a remote control, which lets you toggle the main power as well as control the timer and blower speed of the device. The Bedjet will also get a mobile app version of the remote if they hit at least $175,000 on Kickstarter.

Pledge at least $249 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a Bedjet as a reward.

Plate Cooker Concept Could Safely Reheat Frozen Foods All At Once

The holidays are officially here, although if you don’t have any immediate family or friends to share some holiday moments with, it certainly could get lonely. As lonely as you may feel, one thing is for sure and that’s the fact no one should have a cold meal, that is, unless you’re having a sandwich or salad. But if your meal is supposed to be hot, then the Plate Cooker concept is something you’re probably going to hope becomes an actual product.  (more…)

Plate Cooker Heats Meals for Lone Diners

As the old saying goes, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” At the rate people are skipping meals these days, I think you can tweak that to, “Three square meals a day keeps the doctor away.” Skipping meals is unhealthy and basically messes with your digestive system. But with people so busy these days, who has the time to cook and eat three (or more) proper meals a day?

Working with that in mind, designer Ranhee Chung came up with the Plate Cooker concept.

Personalized PlateIt basically looks like a sandwich maker, except it doesn’t have grills on the inside. Instead, it has a plate with compartments to hold meat, soup, and veggies that’s just perfect to hold a balanced meal.

It’s essentially designed as a food heater, so it could individually heat frozen foods that you prepared earlier. A lot of people actually do this, and by this, we mean cook a big batch of good over the weekend and freeze it to be eaten in the succeeding week.

Smart Sensing Heater helps you save energy costs

smart-sensing-heaterWinter might be fun with building snowmen and carrying out snowball fights, but when it comes to making sure that you are all warm and toasty, that is either going to need plenty of layers of clothing, or you could just end up turning the heater all the way to the hot end and burn through your pocket as the electricity bills arrive at the end of the winter season. Having said that, don’t you wish that there was a heater which consumed as little energy as possible, all the while making sure everyone is warm and toasty? This is where the $99.99 Smart Sensing Heater comes in, where it will help you save energy by automatically adjusting its heat output and fan to maintain your desired room comfort level.

The only part that you need to play? Turn the heater on, and you are good to go. Whenever you feel that the room which is being heated has arrived at a level comfortable to yourself, all you need to do is dial back the thermostat to switch on the Smart Thermaflo Mode. This would allow the heater to automatically reduce heat output, while synchronizing its fan speed so that you end up with whisper quiet operation and a constant temperature and comfort level. Have little ones and pets running around the home? Fret not, the Smart Sensing Heater comes with a cool touch cabinet that is safe for everyone to be around.

Keep Your Watermelon Cool With This Portable Fridge

Keep Your Watermelon Cool With This Portable Fridge

Summer is right around the corner, which means you’re going to be wanting to have a watermelon with you at nearly all times as it’s never a bad time to chow down on a slice of refreshing watermelon. But the trick to eating a watermelon is to keep it as cool as possible up until you slice that sucker open, which unfortunately for the human body, means we’ll have to lug around a cooler as well. That is – unless you have your own portable watermelon fridge.

The portable mini-refrigerator / heater is called “Tama-chan” and comes from Japanese manufacturer Joynbond. You can power Tama-chan simply by connecting it to your car’s cigarette lighter socket, although it’s unknown just how long the cooler will keep your watermelon nice and chilled for without needing to be recharged. Insert Coin semifinalist: Radiator Labs wants to help you control your heat

Just about any apartment-dwelling urbanite can tell you that radiators are a bit of a necessary evil in the world of city living. What if there was a way to control the heat to individual rental units, without relying entirely on a landlord’s temperature-controlling omnipotence? The Radiator Labs team has developed a device to help realize this dream. It’s essentially housing that sits on-top of an individual radiator unit, controlling heat transfer to a room. Turn it off, and the insulation hampers the heat from making a room too hot. Turn it on, and the ducted fan spreads the heat out to the room.

Radiator Labs has a bit more info on its page, which you can check out in the source link below. You can also view graphical breakdown of the technology after the break.

    Three Second Heater

For those of us living in the northern hemisphere, most of us are still in the thick of winter, meaning we have to don our gloves each time we go out, and for some of us, shoveling oodles of snow from the sidewalk each morning just so that we can back the car out of the garage and onto the road. Well, things indoors might be far cozier, but you would also need some sort of heating system in place as well unless you want to freeze your butt off. There are dime a dozen heaters out there in the market, but you might want to consider what the $99.95 Three Second Heater offers by basis of its name.

Assuming all goes as claimed, the Three Second Heater will perceptibly raise the temperature of a particular within a mere three seconds thanks to its infrared heating element. Tests performed by The Hammacher Schlemmer Institute claimed that this heater’s 1500-watt halogen element is capable of raising the temperature nearby by 1.3º F almost immediately, while the standard issue quartz models do take nearly an entire minute to warm up. Being different from traditional heating elements, infrared heat will warm the surrounding area in a similar manner that sunlight warms your skin on a sunny day, without drying out the air or lose energy to leaky ductwork. There is an oscillating fan that ensures the heat will be distributed evenly, whereas a pair of heat settings and an adjustable thermostat let users fine-tune comfort levels accordingly.

TARDIS Mini Fridge Does Seem Bigger on the Inside

It’s not obvious from the pictures, but apparently this mini-fridge is spacious enough to hold a 6-pack of 12 oz. soda. That’s some Time Lord wizardry right there. Place it inside one of these TARDIS fridges and you’ve got yourself a time machine within a time machine. A Horadric Cube within an inventory. A physics problem.

As if it wasn’t powerful enough, the fridge can also function as a heater at the flick of a switch. It also has a tiny light up top and makes the VWORP VWORP sound effect when the door is opened or closed.

You can order the TARDIS Mini Fridge from ThinkGeek for $80 (USD). Sadly it does not come with a one-eleventh scale Doctor.

All-weather motorcycle helmet heats and cools your face

Bob Averill, who introduced us to the world of underwater hamster care, had a couple of other projects to show us during our visit to Portland, Oregon, including the All-Weather Motorcycle Helmet. What, you ask, makes a motorcycle helmet “all-weather?” Why, built-in heating and cooling, of course. Averill started with a standard Vega modular helmet, adding an evaporative cooler powered by a solar panel on top. The cooler pulls air from an intake on the helmet’s side, sucking up more air at higher speeds and blowing it through a sponge, across the wearer’s face. When things get too cold, there’s a heater built into the liner, created from a heated mouse pad and powered by a lithium battery. Averill is looking to get the project mass-produced, but that’s easier said than done, when it comes to a safety products like this — and Kickstarter, apparently, isn’t playing ball. Check out a video of the helmet after the break.
