Skull Orbic H.I. MIPS Helmet Warns You If It Is Seriously Damaged

Skull Orbic H.I. MIPS Helmet Warns You If It Is Seriously DamagedWhen you get involved in sports that have high risk of injury, having the right equipment would go a long way in minimizing such risks, and even the possibility of death. Take rock or gym climbing for example – it pays to have a good pair of harness and climbing shoes so that each step that you take will be an assured one, while your harness help you remain safe in the event of a slip or mis-step. A helmet would also come in handy, too, but how many of us conduct periodic checks on our equipment just in case they pose a danger to us when used? How about a ‘smart skiing ‘helmet like the Skull Orbic H.I. MIPS helmet from POC that has a bunch of stress sensors integrated to help it measure the amount of damage it has sustained to date, informing you that it is no longer safe to wear?

    Loki Helmet Replica: Hëdgard

We featured a horned Loki hoodie before, but if all you want is his huge helmet, Etsy shop Raptor with a Shotgun has what you need. Sadly, they don’t have a raptor with a shotgun.

The helmet is about 2 feet-tall and is made of fiberglass-reinforced liquid plastic casting resin. For practical reasons the shop made the horns out of hollow plastic, but you should still feel their heft when you put the helmet on.

If you’re planning on cosplaying as the god of lies and mischief, you can also get the rest of his armor from Raptor with a Shotgun. That includes his armguards, a shoulder piece and a chest piece.

The shop even has a replica of the muzzle that they put on Loki in The Avengers.

Trick your browser into taking you to Etsy to order these replicas. The helmet costs $450 (USD), while the whole armor set – excluding the muzzle – costs $680. You can also get the pieces separately.

Dead Space Motorcycle Helmet Lets You Hide Your Emotions Like Isaac Clarke

There’s good news and bad news about this helmet. The good news is that this custom Dead Space inspired motorcycle helmet is all kinds of awesome. The bad news is that you know it will get scratched up as you battle necromorphs in it. But hey, at least you can enjoy it while it lasts.

If you have to protect your head, (and it really is a good idea) you might as well do it in style. This helmet comes from Xtreme Kreations and it looks so good you will think you are in-game.

You have to love those painted blue light effects and it’s so shiny. So so shiny. Can you imagine this with a matching bike? That, I would pay to see.

    Make the Ultimate Knight Light

Do you have a round table in your court, but no lighting in your castle that goes with it? Make yourself a cool knight lamp! It’s also perfect for illuminating your next D&D game night.

    knight lampmagnify

Best of all, you can make it by using some fairly inexpensive parts. Just follow Mr. Hyde’s directions over on Instructables. You’ll need a knight’s helm of course, a few wires and metal tubing. Oh, and a crankshaft from a car, but that’s optional. I suppose if you use a cam shaft, your knight lamp will be from Cam-elot. Get it? Ha ha. That was terrible.

With this lamp, your lighting will be much more medieval. Turn it on and pass the mead and a giant turkey leg. Tonight we feast by the helm of the man you have bested in DIY combat.

3D Printed & Motion-Activated Iron Man Helmet: Nod On, Nod Off

A couple of years ago we checked out Ryan Brooks’ replica of Tony Stark’s briefcase suit from Iron Man 2. While the suit did transform and was wearable, it basically looked less like a briefcase and more of a pile of armor squished together. This year Ryan made a smaller but more polished Iron Man prop. It’s a Mk. III helmet that can be opened or closed just by nodding.

Ryan 3D printed the helmet itself. He made it so the flaps at the neck area fold upwards so that he can wear the helmet.

Then he made a servo mechanism based on an Arduino Pro Mini with an Adafruit accelerometer. Ryan rigged the mechanism so that it would open the faceplate if he nodded backwards, and close the faceplate if he nodded forwards.

The servo mechanism also moves the lower jaw of the helmet when the faceplate is opened or closed.

If you’re a fellow tinkerer who’s working on your own Iron Man helmet, you might want to get Ryan’s servo mechanism, which you can purchase from his website.

Hövding Invisible Bike Helmet – An Idea Worth Investing In?

Hövding Invisible Bike Helmet An Idea Worth Investing In?If your commute to work is just a few blocks down the road, driving does not make much sense, and walking would take a whole lot more time than it is worth, making the bicycle one of the most cost effective modes of transport to get around. This is even more pronounced if you live in a suburb, and most shops and stores are close by. The thing is, riding a bicycle will also offer you health benefits of exercise, not to mention making the world a whole lot greener since there are no carbon emissions to worry about. You do have to take the necessary precautions in getting around on a bicycle, and that would include wearing a helmet and a safety jacket under low light conditions.

The Hövding helmet gets the job done, where it does not mess up your hair, and is good for only one use in the event of an accident, as it relies on a bunch of accelerometers and gyroscopes in order to detect typical motions which happen during an accident. Upon doing so, it will release a gas inflator that fills up a nylon airbag with helium to protect your head so that it can deploy in approximately 0.1 seconds. Do you think that is fast enough to offer protection in the event of an accident? We did talk about it a year ago, so here are additional details on it. Assuming you have come out for the better after an accident where the Hövding helmet has been deployed, do contact them. Within the collar lies a black box which records 10 seconds of data on your movement patterns from an accident. Select insurance companies do cover part of the expense when it comes to a new Hövding after an accident, so do give your insurance company a holler to see how they deal with it.

Mamoris Chair Doubles As an Emergency Helmet: Spaceballs: The Chair

I feel like this is a design inspired by Spaceballs, but despite the fact that it looks silly, furniture that doubles as protective gear could save your life. The Mamoris chair features a backrest that doubles as an emergency helmet. Imagine yourself sitting there doing your work at your desk, when suddenly you feel an earthquake.
    mamoris helmet chair 1 620x439magnify

You may not have time to do much, but you can at least grab the back of your seat and cover you head with it. That could be enough to save your life right there or prevent a head injury. This design saves you the trouble of finding a place to store the helmet when you are not using it too.

    mamoris helmet chair 2 620x439magnify

The unique shape covers not only the head but also the neck and back area, which is where you want to be protected.

    mamoris helmet chair 3 620x413magnify

There’s no word on whether the Mamoris chair will go beyond the prototype stage, but it’s definitely a good idea for locations that are earthquake prone, so hopefully it’ll go into production at some point.

US Army's new awesome helmet turns war into deadly video game

Spider-Man Motorcycle Helmet: with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility for Safety

If you’re a Spider-Man fan, then chances are that your Spidey senses are already tingling and your wallet already open now that you’ve seen this sweet helmet. This Spider-Man helmet is painted up super nice to look exactly like our favorite web-slinger. Doesn’t it look amazing?
    spiderman helmetmagnify

It comes in the traditional red style and the villainous black version. So how much does it cost to zip down the road looking like Spidey? It sells for $525 to to $825(USD) depending on the helmet, from airgraffix, who sells all sorts of cool custom helmets. Sure, it’s an expensive helmet, but it’s not like Spidey spent that much on his costume to begin with.

As Stan Lee might say, “Remember kids, only a web-head rides a bike without a helmet.” So it might as well be the coolest helmet you can buy.
