Predator Motorcycle Helmet Has no Active Camouflage Mode

Aliens don’t stand a chance against Predators – especially if they’re riding on motorcycles. Though you might draw the attention of some traffic cops if you go speeding down the highway wearing this Predator motorcycle helmet.

This awesome looking Predator helmet comes from Russia’s NLO MOTO, and will definitely keep other drivers out of your way when they see you coming. It’s made from fiberglass, carbon fiber and polycarbonate, and has three red LED dots mounted next to its removable, tinted visor.

It can be ordered in a variety of custom options if you don’t want the plain old black helmet shown above. It can even be ordered with a “laser-controlled aimer,” which emits three tiny laser beams which can be seen on a foggy day. There’s also an option for carbon spearheads on the dreadlocks, and some nasty looking Predator teeth.

Prices for the Predator helmet start at $780(USD) and go up from there.

As the video above explains, the helmet has limited visibility, so it’s “not for noobies.” Also, collecting Alien skulls as trophies is not for noobies.

Dark as Night Motorcycle Helmet Brings out the Bat in the Man

Sorry UD Replicas, but Helmet Dawg beat you to this one – a Batman-themed motorcycle helmet. It’s not officially licensed though, so Helmet Dawg prefers to call it the Dark as Night Helmet: Black Edition. Or perhaps it isn’t actually a nod to Batman but to Felix the Cat.

According to DudeIWantThat, the helmet is made of a “DOT-approved Thermo-Plastic Poly Alloy shell”, while the bat ears are “molded from impact-resistant plastics [with] tensile strength rated at 2,400 psi.” In other words, it’s as protective as any other decent motorcycle helmet, just less aerodynamic.

Vibrating Helmet Guides Firefighters Through Smoke

Vibrating Helmet Guides Firefighters Through Smoke

Firefighters have a tough job. They risk their lives to save the lives of others. Often they might find themselves in a smoke filled room where visibility is quite bad. This could seriously hamper their relief efforts, while putting their life at risk as well. A group of researchers at the University of Sheffield have come up with an interesting prototype helmet. This helmet vibrates against the forehead of the person wearing it, this vibration is an indication of objects and obstacles nearby.

The team fitted a standard Rosenbauer firefighting helmet with vibrational pads and ultrasound sensors. The helmet sends out pulses of ultrasound and analyzes the echos to determine the proximity of objects. It responds by activating the vibrational pads facing the object, thus giving a tactile directional alert to the wearer. The concept is pretty intelligent, particularly the usage of vibrational pads to let the firefighter know of objects nearby. Any other method might not be as effective, as firefighters generally don’t have their hands free to operate equipment other than that required for their relief efforts. It can also be further developed to help visually impaired people, the possibilities are endless.

6D Motorcycle Helmets Might Just Save Your Life

It pays to play it safe, especially when you’re on the road. Thousands of motorists die every year in accidents; while there’s no surefire way or system to eliminate these unfortunate occurrences entirely, there are some things that you can wear on your head to cushion the blow or install on your bike.

6D Helmet

On a related note, 6D has come up with a redesigned motorcycle helmet that’s supposed to help reduce concussions. I think its a given that anyone who owns or rides a bike should have a helmet; they’re probably the most important bike accessories around in the first place. 6D’s helmet is described as having elastomeric dampers that absorb the force of low-speed impacts, which is where most traditional styro-and-shell helmets often fail.

6d helmet dampers

If I lost you after that last line, then no worries because this video will explain what words can’t make you understand.

The gel dampers in 6D’s helmets will cushion the fall in low speed situations (below 9mph). Note that styro-and-shell helmets work best during impact situations at above 9mph.

The animation and renderings were brought to life by boutique visual firm Related Grey using 6D’s CAD data of the helmets.

Iron Man + TRON = TRON Man

We’re all about superheroes around here today, and why not end the night with something truly awesome? What you’re looking at here is a cool Iron Man helmet design, dressed up with TRON-style electroluminescent lighting.

iron man tron

It was made by Sauer33, and it is truly a sight to behold (at least in the dark). He created the helmet design for an Instructables contest, though I’ve yet to be able to find the full gallery of pics. I’m guessing it’s not yet live on the site. Regardless, if I saw Iron Man flying through the night sky wearing this, I’d definitely feel even more intimidated. Just look at those red eyes. And that strong yellow jawline.

Given Tony Stark’s propensity for the theatrical, there’s no way he would turn down the opportunity to wear one of these helmets. The only thing better would be an entire set of light-up armor. I’m sure Mr. Stark could afford to build one.

Reevu Motorcycle Helmet Gives You Eyes in the Back of Your Head

The most dangerous thing about a motorcycle isn’t the motorcycle itself, it’s the distracted drivers around you. We all see people driving down the street in a car weaving all over the place, texting rather than paying attention to what they’re doing. If one of those drivers hits you in your car, you may be angry but odds are you going to be okay. However, if one of those distracted drivers hits you on a motorcycle, there’s a very high likelihood that you won’t be walking away from the accident.

A company called Reevu has created an incredibly cool motorcycle helmet that gives riders eyes in the back of their head. The helmet uses an optical device that’s able to give the rider a view of what’s going on behind them, without distracting them from the road in front of them.

reevu helmet 2

The helmet doesn’t use a camera system or an LCD viewfinder, it uses an optical device that is able to bend light over the top of the wearer’s head allowing them to view what’s behind them on a small mirror inside the helmet.

Those optical elements are coated onto a bulletproof material inside the helmet that also acts as a crumple zone to add additional protection in an accident.

The helmet is made from durable, lightweight polycarbonate materials, and is available in black, matte black, titanium and silver finishes. You can buy the Reevu MSX1 Rear View helmet at Revzilla for $399.99(USD).

Air Purifier Helmet The Answer To Smog?

Air Purifier Helmet The Answer To Smog?I am quite sure that you have read about how Beijing of China’s air quality in recent times have plummeted to dismal levels, with the amount of pollution in the bustling city hitting unprecedented sky high levels, so much so that the smog there can last for up to a week, before Mr. Sunshine makes an appearance. Well, wearing flimsy face masks is not going to help the situation, but perhaps it might prove to be a psychological booster, I am not too sure. Other folks prefer to remain indoors and just turn on the air conditioner, leaving the windows closed for as long as possible where necessary, and this situation has proven to be a catalyst for budding inventors to come up with crazy ideas such as this air purifier helmet.

Basically, this particular device is a helmet that is attached to a portable air filtration system which you can tote around on your waist. Paraded at the East China Fair recently, this anti-smog helmet will run on a lithium battery which has a battery life of up to 8 hours, and a warning alarm will go off whenever it starts to get low on juice.

Insert Coin: LifeBeam heart-monitoring smart cycling helmet (video)

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you’d like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with “Insert Coin” as the subject line.

Insert Coin LifeBeam heartmonitoring smart cycling helmet video

Let’s face it: heart monitors, whether strapped to our chests or mounted to the front of a treadmill, are an awful pain to use. But, those rate readouts can be quite useful while involved in any sort of physical activity, making them a necessary hindrance. A proposed “smart cycling helmet” from LifeBeam, a company best known for its defense products, would serve to simplify things a bit. The solution, which is based on physiological monitoring devices installed in some fighter pilot helmets, would instead serve consumers — cyclists, specifically. LifeBeam will insert sensors within cycling headgear, letting you capture measurements as you pedal up hills and down city streets.

With included ANT+ and Bluetooth transmitters, the device, which weighs 50 grams and supports up to 15 hours of continuous usage, can feed data to a smartphone or sport watch, for example, letting you track your stats in realtime. LifeBeam has turned to Indiegogo to raise funds for the project, with limited “pre-order” pricing fixed at $149 for the first 200 helmets sold. From there, the price jumps to $189 — helmets are expected to begin shipping in September of this year. Sound like a fit? Hit up the source link to help the team reach their $50,000 funding goal, or, if you still need a bit of convincing, you can check out the well-produced video embedded just past the break.

Iron Bounty Hunter: Is He Tony Fett or Boba Stark?

This Iron Man/Boba Fett sculpture is awesome. Matthew J. Hideousboi painted after seeing a Boba Fett helmet painted as Iron Man for the As You Wish Helmet Project, a charity event that raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, by getting artists to make their own custom Boba Fett and Clone Trooper helmets. Personally, I think that Matthew’s version is better.

I would love to see this guy in a movie. Maybe now that Disney owns both Marvel and LucasFilm, we will someday.
