The shift in season reminded me of this cool old project in cold Helsinki, where a team of designers turned an abandoned oil tank into a lovely, year-round public art project.
Jolla confirms first Sailfish OS demo on November 21st, device details by Christmas
Posted in: Today's ChiliJolla had already mentioned that it would show its MeeGo-derived Sailfish OS in November, but the startup now has exact dates to mark on the calendar. Come November 21st and 22nd, we’ll get a peek at Jolla’s take on the open platform’s interface, apps and SDK at the Slush conference in Helsinki. There won’t be much hardware to see, however. Jolla plans to provide the first phone details and launch window before Christmas, which doesn’t give much if any time for initial partners like D.Phone to get moving. We’d expect a more formal launch in the new year.

While in Helsinki, do as the Finns do — shop at Nokia’s flagship store, right? Just as we were contemplating the purchase of an unlocked Asha (or three) as stocking stuffers, we stumbled upon this delightfully futuristic 808 PureView display — complete with quirky dioramas. Sadly, we weren’t packing Nokia’s imaging handset, nor the phenomenal Lumia 920 camera, so we used our trusty HTC One X to capture the moment. Check out the gallery below — where you’ll find the 808 PureView serving as a swimming pool and being assembled by tiny workers — then hit the break for a short video.

Intel, Acer, Qualcomm join Futuremark’s 3DMark for Android development program
Posted in: Today's ChiliBenchmarking outfit Futuremark has announced that Intel, Qualcomm, Acer and SingTel-Optus are joining the development program for the company’s 3DMark for Android. The quartet is in good company, joining a list of industry heavyweights that includes AMD, Microsoft and NVIDIA, amongst others. While the Helsinki-based outfit hasn’t mentioned a specific release date for its latest analysis application, it’s on course to arrive “later this year.” For us, that simply isn’t soon enough — but then again we don’t get out much.
