Blizzard Unveils New Heroes Of The Storm Characters

Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA and is the developer’s answer to popular MOBAs like Riot Games’ League of Legends and Valve’s DotA 2. The game is currently in development and is in a limited technical alpha, according to Blizzard, but it did not stop the developer from showing off what they have in store for gamers during PAX East.

For starters Blizzard has unveiled four new heroes: LiLi, Brightwing, Murky, and Zagara. The first three heroes are from the Warcraft universe while Zagara is from the StarCraft universe. Blizzard has also revealed that additional heroes are in the works, such as Chen, Kael’thas, and Sylvanas. According to Blizzard, both LiLi and Brightwing are considered to be support heroes, with LiLi being able to protect her allies while Brightwing brings healing to the table as well as crowd control. Heroes Of The Storm Gameplay Footage Released

A couple of months ago, Blizzard finally took the wraps off Heroes of the Storm, the company’s first MOBA game (we suppose DotA doesn’t count since it was not developed by them). The game had previously been known as Blizzard All-Stars and was in development for the past few years, which is typical of Blizzard who has been known to delay releases in order to ensure a good product is released.  In any case last we saw, Blizzard had released the game’s cinematic trailer as well as some gameplay trailers, but for gamers who are wondering just how a game of Heroes of the Storm plays out, you will be pleased to learn that actual gameplay footage has since been released.

This footage shows us what the game looks like, right from the launch screen, all the way into a match itself. The game is played by Mike “Husky” Lamond along with the game’s director, Dustin Browder, where commentary on the game is provided while the game is played. Blizzard has also promised to share more news regarding development on a more regular basis from now on. Either way if you’re looking forward to seeing what the game has in store for you, be sure to check out the video above, but note that it runs for almost 20 minutes, so you might want to grab some popcorn and enjoy it!

Originally announced back in 2010, Blizzard All-Stars has long been in the works, but knowing Blizzard’s history and reputation when it comes to making games, we guess this isn’t a complete surprise. The game has since had its name changed to Heroes of the Storm and for those who have been looking forward to it for the past three years, it looks like the wait is over! Blizzard has revealed the cinematic intro for the game, along with the release of the gameplay trailer, showing off how the game might be like as well as introducing a few characters that loyal Blizzard gamers might recognize. Blizzard’s Heroes Of The Storm Name Already Trademarked In EU

Blizzards Heroes Of The Storm Name Already Trademarked In EUThe other day we reported that Blizzard had decided to give their upcoming MOBA, Blizzard All-Stars, a name change to Heroes of the Storm. We’re not sure if that was necessarily a catchier title, as far as legal contention goes, it looks like Blizzard All-Stars would have been a safer choice. It seems that over in Finland and in the EU trademark office, there already exists a game called, Myrskyn Sankarit, which when translated to English pretty much stands for “Heroes of the Storm” as well. Given that the game was published in July 2013, with the Indiegogo campaign having been launched in 2012, safe to say that its creator definitely beat Blizzard to the punch.

According to the game’s creator, Mike Pohjola, he expressed his concern about both games existing peacefully. Pohjola’s creation is a pen-and-paper game and while both games are definitely of different genres, the similarity in title could confuse gamers who might think that Pohjola’s creation is a spin-off of Blizzard’s game and vice versa. We’re not sure what Blizzard plans to do about this and it would be hard for them to contest that they were there first, especially since the title of the game was only recently changed, although Blizzard could also argue that Pohjola’s trademark registration was made after the leak of the Heroes of the Storm filing. Either way we guess we will just have to wait and see how this one plays out.

Blizzard All-Stars Renamed To Heroes Of The Storm

It is no secret that Blizzard has been working on a DotA-like game for a while now which has been known as Blizzard All-Stars, at least until recently where the developer released a short trailer (check it out in the video above) in which they reintroduce the game as, Heroes of the Storm. The trademark for “Heroes of the Storm” was filed for a couple of weeks ago, and we guess that the name is now used for Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA, although previously some speculated that it could be the name for an upcoming World of Warcraft expansion.

The original game has been teased for quite a while now and we have not heard much from Blizzard about its features, or seen screenshots, or when we might see a release. However with this renaming of the game and the teaser trailer that was released with it, hopefully Blizzard will be able to share some concrete details come BlizzCon 2013 which will be taking place in November. As it stands there are a couple of games similar in style, such as the original DotA, League of Legends, and Valve’s DotA 2, so it will be interesting to see how well-received Heroes of the Storm will be. What do you guys think?
