If you’ve got a gamer in the house, there’s no better place to hide their littlest Christmas presents than in this retro 8-bit Christmas stocking.

This stocking has an old-school controller on top (yes, we know the D-pad is on the wrong side) and a chunky pixelated pattern across the main sock area. It’s 14″ tall and wide enough to accomodate game discs, handheld systems and other goodies for gamers.

Seriously Though, Apple’s Gift Guide Is Just the Apple Store

Jingle, jingle, everyone! Throw on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” and bust out the nativity. The holidays are officially upon us—Apple has released its holiday gift guide. Oh my god, I can’t stop squealing! Wait actually though, it’s just the Apple Store with more red font. More »

Velocity Micro unveils Vector Holiday Edition desktop for $599

Velocity Micro, makers of custom pre-built desktop computers, announced a Vector “Holiday Edition” desktop computer, as well as a VMultra drive external peripheral. The computer isn’t dressed up in Christmas colors and strung with bells and ribbons — it’s a different kind of Holiday Edition, meaning the company is making it its main product over the holidays.

The Vector Holiday Edition was designed and built in the US, and it starts at a base price of $599, which will get you an AMD A6-5400K dual-core processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, AMD Radeon HD graphics, 1TB of hard drive storage, and the buyer’s choice of either Windows 7 or the new Windows 8. Plus, the purchase comes with a one-year warranty and lifetime phone support.

The VMultra Drive peripheral will be separate purchase, and it combines four different peripheral devices into one single hub. Features include an external DVD±RW drive, a USB 3.0 hub, a SD card slot, and a 500GB hard drive as a backup storage solution. The VMultra Drive will begin shipping November 12 for $199.

The Vector Holiday Edition is available now for configuring and ordering, and will ships as soon as possible. If you’re wanting to get that special someone a custom-built machine, but don’t want to risk building it yourself, the Vector Holiday Edition may be a good choice come this holiday season.

GameMaxx PrankPack is Almost Believable

With the holidays fast approaching we will all be getting together with family and friends to exchange gifts and celebrate. It’s also a time to remember to not get excited about your gift until you open the box and are sure what’s on the box is really what you’re getting. Take, for example, the exciting GameMaxx game controller.

gamemaxx prankpack 1

Prank Pack boxes have pictures and a description of products that looks real on the outside. However, you fill the box with whatever junk you want. I suggest socks. A hilarious new prank box has surfaced in time for 2012 gift giving called the GameMaxx that shows what claims to be the largest game controller ever. The massive controller says it will hold 1 gallon of fluid and has a 24-inch straw to keep you hydrated while you play.

The box also says that the jumbo gamepad has a multiple speed fan, tons of buttons, a retractable 36″ antenna, and its own sound system. This would be the perfect prank for someone who likes gaming in your life. The only downsides include the fact that if you give this to a kid someone is bound to throw a tantrum, and $8 is kind of pricey for an empty cardboard box.

GameMaxx PrankPack comes just in time for the holidays

The holiday season is here and if your family is anything like mine that means you’ll see some of the same boxes used again for gifts this year that you saw last year, I and maybe even the year before. If you want to use an interesting box that will be in the family for years to come, a new PrankPack box is available to wrap your gift in.

This particular box is perfect for people who like gaming and video game accessories. The box shows a gigantic controller on the outside called the GameMaxx Hydrating Game Controller. The box notes that the product was voted the “Largest Gaming Device” by the National Gaming Convention in 2011.

The prank package promises a gigantic controller featuring a five amp adjustable speed fan with mister, a 24-inch flexible drinking tube, and a neck strap. The device promises to hold about a gallon of whatever drink the person wants to put inside. The image shows a surface festooned with buttons and sliders for controlling your favorite video game.

If you’re the sort of gift giver who likes to mess with people, this box might be just the ticket. The downside is that it costs eight dollars just for the box. There a lot of people out there who won’t mind the eight dollar price for a box in the least. I can just see this PrankPackage being used to give someone socks.

Star Trek Transporter Christmas Ornament: Beam Me up, Santa!

Here’s a rarity for all your trekkies out there. It’s a collectible Christmas tree ornament made up to look like the transporter chamber from Star Trek (The Original Series.)

The ornament even has got tiny (though grossly inaccurate) versions of Kirk, Spock and Scotty getting ready to be beamed down to some hostile planet’s surface. It even has flashing transporter lights and transporter sound effects when you press a button.

Apparently, these were made in limited quantities by Hallmark back in 2006, but you can find them pretty readily over on eBay. This particular one is up for sale at Hooked on Ornaments for $54.95(USD), and if you want it, you’d better ask Scotty to beam you on over there right away, before Khan beats you to the punch.

Microsoft announces Xbox 360 holiday bundles and $50 off promo for US market

Microsoft announces Xbox 360 holiday bundles and $50 off promo for US market

With this year’s holidays being just around the corner, it’s only natural for companies to start tempting potential customers with cash-saving, too-good-to-pass deals. With that in mind, Microsoft, via the informative Major Nelson, announced earlier today its 2012 Xbox 360 holiday bundles in hopes of luring some folks in; among these are a 250GB console with Kinect, Dance Central 2, Kinect Sports, Kinect Adventures and one month of Xbox Live for $400, while there’s also a 4GB, $300 option that comes with the same Gold subscription, Redmond’s motion-tracking peripheral, Kinect Disneyland Adventures and Kinect Adventures. In addition, the Surface maker said retailers should start offering the console for $50 off MSRP, and that this limited time deal will also apply to the Halo 4 bundle which is due to come out on November 6th. Better yet, these new bundles and promos are available now — so, for those living in the US, now could be a good time to snag one of Microsoft’s renowned consoles.

October is here and that means we’re on the lookout for all sorts of geeky pumpkins. We’ve already found one supremely geeky pumpkin with the Death Star that we showed you this week. The winner of the contest will get a $131 ThinkGeek gift certificate and a mystery box filled with cool ThinkGeek goodies. You can send in your templates until October 29, 2012. It sounds like the winners will actually be carved so we can see them. I happen to think the Nyan Cat pumpkin is one of the coolest templates ever.

If you hop over to ThinkGeek you can download templates submitted in past years’ contests including a Boba Fett template, Nyan Cat, and even Sheldon Cooper. I also have a soft spot for the Portal pumpkins and the stormtrooper.

Target adds QR codes to hot holiday toys for secret shopping

Well, this one should give parents with ever-present ankle-biters reason to celebrate. Starting Sunday, October 14th, Target will make a special in-store area available highlighting 20 of the most sought-after toys — all tagged with QR codes for one-stop, secret mobile shopping. The initiative is being targeted at consumers (read: frazzled Moms and Dads) who need to conduct their frenzied gift-buying without the prying eyes of curious children. You’ll have to install the company’s app to scan the codes and opt-in for the free shipping, but it’s really no more complicated than that. All told, it’s an added bit of convenience that should relieve some of that mad holiday stress, but it’s definitely bad news for the impulse buyer. You can check out the PR after the break for the full list of included products.
