It’s painfully cold, windy, and there is a lot of snow, ice, or a combination of both around. You can be annoyed by how dreary the conditions are, or prepare for the worst and make the best of your situation. Wearing more layers than normal so you don’t freeze, hot chocolate, and having snowball fights will make for good memories, as well as combat the downtrodden nature of winter.
If you want to treat this chilly weather as if it were any other season, why not go camping? You might think I’m crazy, but if you have an igloo, it’s really not as bad as it sounds. The problem is, most of us have little to no experience building this kind of structure, which is why the Icebox Igloo Maker would be perfect for those of you that really want to give this experience a go.
This is a pole with eight adjustments, “one for each layer is used to build igloos with the correct catenary shape and to help support the weight of the snow and form while packing the snow”. After six rows, you should be able to remove the outside of the form as it will be leaning far enough inward that you can add snow on the outside. If you have the time, and camping gear that you would also need to sleep in this icy housing, then this would be great fun for all involved. This will require at least four inches of snow on the ground, so if you’re in a warmer area that doesn’t get much in the way of cold weather, this would certainly be a waste of $180.
