The Clione Mini Speaker USB Lamp would be a bright idea with a little more work

Our music often goes hand-in-hand with our mood. By the same token, it can also help pull us out of a funk. The atmosphere of the place you’re in can also greatly affect your emotions. Being in a dark room with loud music obviously can put you in a very different mood from an open area that is well-lit and has music at just a high enough level to be heard without overpowering your surroundings.

If you want the light and music in your space to be under your control, then the Clione Mini Speaker USB Lamp should do your bidding quite nicely. It looks like a cross between a floating lab flask and an elongated Luxo lamp. It has a 3W speaker, and runs on rechargeable batteries. As it doesn’t plug into the wall, you’ll have to recharge it via USB or replace the 3 AAA batteries it requires every 2 hours if you’re playing music only, or every 4-8 hours if you’re using the light alone. That being said, it doesn’t seem terribly practical.

You can plug in whichever musical device that has a 3.5mm earphone jack. It is touch-sensitive, so you can turn on or off the lamp at a single touch, as well as adjust the brightness. Despite all of its gimmicks, it still doesn’t seem to be worth the $61 you’d have to spend to get one. It’s certainly a neat idea, but needs a little more polish.

The Extendable Magnetic Flashlight can search out hard-to-reach places for lost items

extendable-telescoping-magnetic-flashlights
The moment your hand brushes against your keys and they begin to slide to the back edge of the table, your adrenaline rises. You know that if you don’t act quickly enough, they’re going to to teeter on the edge and fall into the abyss (aka behind the table it’s on). Even if you don’t catch it in time there’s a way to retrieve it, but if it’s behind a more permanently installed item such as a washer or dryer, it’s not going to be fun to go after.

This happens to all of us with a variety of everyday items or tools. Your first utensil to start the rescue mission is a flashlight, and from there something to snag and retrieve your item. If you find that more often than not it is a metal object that could be drawn to a magnet, then the Extendable Telescoping Magnetic Flashlight will be just what you’re looking for. It might look like a regular flashlight on the outside, but it can extend to close to two feet long, and has a magnetic tail and head so you can pick up smaller or heavier items alike.

It has 3 LEDs for the light portion, and the head has 360 degree directional rotation on a bendable neck so it can adjust exactly how you need it. There is a pocket/belt clip so you can have it at the ready in case this sort of thing happens more often than you’d like. Made of aluminum, you can choose the body to be silver, blue, red, or pink. It’s a pretty handy tool that will cost you around $21.

The Kinoko Bath Light will illuminate the path to relaxation

kinoko-bath-light-led

When you take a bath, you expect a certain amount of atmosphere. Seeing that you’re going to be there for upwards of 10 minutes not doing much of anything, it makes sense that you would like the ambiance to be exactly how you want it. Some don’t mind if the lights are on, but others aren’t too fond of the bright, overhead lights that are at times almost headache-inducing.

Rather than going to more romantic candle lighting, you can always move to a more fantastical solution. The Kinoko Bath Light will certainly provide you with illumination, but in a more colorful way. This takes on the shape of mushroom, and comes in pink, green, or yellow pastel. This will stick to your bathroom wall, tile, or tub (likely via suction cup, but it is not specified).

Once it’s in place, simply tap the top and it will start to light up and flow through a variety of colors. These only cost $20, and seem to be aimed more as a toy for children. However, it can provide the ambiance you’re looking for so long as you don’t mind a rainbow of colored lights dancing on the walls while you sink into a calmer mental state in the tub. You will need to make sure you have batteries on hand to keep these alight, but the type and number needed are not defined.

Ding Dong, It’s Doorbot!

images

Okay, I admit it, I’m a hider. My doorbell rings, and I run into my closet, which gives a perfect view of my front steps, allowing me to make a decision as to whether or not I will answer the door. I usually don’t, but only because, if I wanted to see you, I would have known you were coming. I have to say that running into the closet is pretty inconvenient and it makes me feel a bit ridiculous, hiding in my own house.

Well, once again, technology answers my prayers. Check out the Doorbot… enabling you to see who’s standing at your front door, and even be able to communicate with them over audio. Your visitors simply ring your bell, and WiFi sends the voice and video to your iOS, or Android smartphone.

DoorBot installs easily enough and can be hardwired where your old doorbell used to be, or it can even run on an internal battery that only needs to be recharged once a year. The camera uses LED technology and you will even be able to see the folks who come to ring your bell after dark. DoorBot is also compatible with Lockitron, which lets you lock/unlock the door’s deadbolt with another smartphone application.

Compatible with iPhone, iPad and Android devices, DoorBot will run you under 200 bucks, and is available for pre-order through Amazon.com, or at select retail stores…So much more dignified than running to the closet, don’t you think?

jellyfish-mood-lampHaving a lamp is more or less an essential thing to own in any home, considering how sometimes harsh lighting could prove to be too hard on the eyes, and neither does it invoke that kind of romantic mood. A mood lamp would definitely come in handy to send those lovey dovey feelings down your spine, and with the $29.99 LED Jellyfish Mood Lamp, you will definitely have another winner in your proverbial book as it is not only highly affordable, but it will also be relaxing to watch at. Withings WS-50 Scale will measure more than just your weight

Withings Scale
Checking your weight is something we all do (especially around this time of year). Most scales will tell you a simple number, and leave you to your own devices past that. Seeing that there are now all sorts of fitness and health apps, gadgets, and gizmos, it seems only fair that bathroom scales pick up the pace.

The Withings WS-50 Scale will do far more than just tell you a number. This will tell you weight, BMI, and your body fat. It can store information for up to 8 different people, and can pair up with over 60 different apps, so you might be able to use one you’re already acquainted with. Of course, this isn’t all it can do.

Having fresh air in your living space can do a lot for your health, so this scale is constantly checking the the quality of the air you’re taking in. It will also tell you if you favor leaning on one side rather than the other, meaning you need to improve your posture. This is also capable of checking your resting heart rate, and can tell you if you’re doing any better over time. It does have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capabilities, and will cost you around $150. This will work on Android or iOS, so no one should be left out (well, mostly everyone anyhow). This is a great first step in tracking your fitness improvements, and will hopefully make the process a little bit easier.

Samsung has world’s largest 110” UHD TV in tow

samsung-uhdtvIt seems that owning a TV alone is not good enough these days, as one would do well to have a TV that is large in size. After all, there is nothing quite like having the feeling of bringing in the cinema experience to the living room, is there? Samsung intends to lead the way with the introduction of what they deem to be the world’s largest 110” UHD TV over at CES 2014. Also known as the 110S9, this Samsung device is the world’s largest commercial Ultra High Definition TV, where it will sport some of Samsung’s innovative technologies including the Quadmatic Picture Engine that is touted to deliver unrivaled picture quality on 110S9’s 110” UHD screen, which would then bring to life its 800-megapixel display. We are talking about more than four times the number of pixels on a Full HD TV here, people.

Samsung expects to see additional demand grow for the 110” UHD TV market segment, where apart from rich folks who have way too much money to spare and spend, other clients would include government institutions, agencies and companies from around the world who want to have that “Wow!” factor when it comes to beautifying their offices and impressing all who step in.

This particular TV will arrive in the new rich markets of China, the Middle East, and Europe later this month, and you can bet your bottom dollar that folks from China as well as the Middle East will find it to be not an issue in purchasing one, or perhaps even two of these bad boys. After all, those are the places where the nouveau rich reside, and it is not out of their character to splurge just because they can. Needless to say, pricing details have yet to be revealed, but in this case, if you have to ask, you probably cannot afford it.

The Remember Shelf will only work if you remember to use it

Remember shelf
While we try our best, we can’t remember every small detail we’re supposed to keep track of. There’s gadgets to charge, groceries to buy, things to clean, appointments, meetings, and much, much more. While you can set reminders on your phone, that’s often not enough to make sure you accomplish whatever task lay in front of you in the appropriate amount of time. As the saying goes, “If you’re early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late.” Of course, if you’re late, it’s completely unacceptable.

We need calendars that hang on the wall, notes on our hand, and post-its on everything. If all that isn’t enough, then the Remember Shelf can add to your collection. This is a a whiteboard where you can write down those appointment times and grocery list. It can also hold your keys, phone, and wallet. Possibly the most unique aspect of this is that there are switches on the right hand side where you can doodle little pictures of things that you still need to do.

That can be anything from turning off the light to locking the back door. It can become the best departure checklist for going out the front door before your day at work begins…well, if you remember to check it and update it regularly. This will cost you around $35, and won’t take up much space on the wall as it only measures 34x21cm.
