Suck that Bug Bite

Bugs suck. They truly know how to ruin a nice evening of sitting outside. The vengeful little buggers seem to always find the party. It is inevitable that someone at your BBQ ends up being dinner for the mosquitoes, ants, bees or worse. The itching that follows is unbearable at points. Heck, we even end up itching in our sleep.  And all the itching simply delays healing. So why go straight to the source of irritation and suck it out?

Let ASPIVENIN® be your friend in the ongoing fight with bugs. ASPIVENIN, $23.95 AUD (about $25 USD) consists of a double chamber pump and 4 attachments for different sized bites. Apply the pump with nozzle to the affected area and pull the plunger out. Then push it down completely and give it 1-3 minutes to fully extract all venom. Once released simply wash the wound with antiseptic. ASPIVENIN takes care of the underlying problem and lets you heal without itching. The unit should be used as soon as possible after a bite, but can be used up to a couple hours later. Most common bites or stings it assists with include mosquitoes, sandflies, spiders, bees, wasps, snakes, jellyfish, nettle. And ASPIVENIN is child friendly – simply use half a pump. The gadget comes in an easy to carry case, so take it camping, hiking or anywhere and fight the bug bites!

Ferrofluid Magnetic Display

No matter how old you are, surely the child in you still yearns to play. After all, we learn best when we play, and even in the animal kingdom, basic survival skills are picked up when a litter of puppies or kittens (big cats in the wild, too) play with one another. As for humans, here is one desktop toy that you might want to purchase for yourself or as a gift for a good friend, as the $29.99 Ferrofluid Magnetic Display certainly makes for a decent stress reliever – far better than just squeezing and letting go of a stress ball or to blow right into a paperbag, I say!

Touted to be utterly addictive, you will obviously use magnets provided with the Ferrofluid Magnetic Display to make the fluid “dance”. Hand-crafted in the USA, ferrofluid is actually a kind of colloidal liquid that is made of particles less than 10 nanometers in diameter. Whenever they are subjected to a magnetic field, the nanoparticles will form regular patterns of peaks and valleys, and in the world of electronics, those are are used to form liquid seals in order to prevent debris from getting into a hard drive. Have a good time creating artistic masterpieces for yourself and others to admire during those free moments at the office.

Get the Groceries Right!

Some of the most successful products evolve strictly out of making our lives easier. We could survive without it, but in our continuing efforts to save time or hassle the product takes off. Think about it. Who thought bagged lettuce would ever succeed? Or the universal remote control? Well, there’s another product on the horizon that may just will do the same thing.

Currently on Kickstarter is hiku, a grocery list creation and reminder tool. What makes it so different? It involves a separate device – meaning smart phones need not be present to submit an item to the list – and it uses the cloud. hiku is smaller than a computer mouse and can live on the counter or the fridge. Simply designed, it enables users to make notes to themselves about groceries they need in two ways: by scanning the UPC code or making a voice memo. Simple right? Not so fast. hiku then sends your reminders, via the cloud, to your hiku account. You can then access the information via hiku app or any web browser. That means any member of the house can submit requests and know that the shopper will get the message. hiku will be open, for integration with other list programs like Remember the Milk, Astrid Tasks and Evernote. Funding is in progress, and you can support hiku for as little as $2. Assuming funds are raised, launch is anticipated in early 2013.

So if simplify grocery shopping and end the days of running out of your favorite stuff by helping hiku become a reality!

Netgear introduces new streaming players

Most homes in developed countries these days come with not only any Internet connection, but rather, a speedy one at that. Having said that, the way we consume media has also changed rather dramatically, no longer do we rent DVDs from a store or a kiosk, but rather, we prefer to just stream whatever we want to watch right there and then onto the TV itself. Not only that, it has been possible for a fair number of years now to be able to record what we do not have the time to watch for consumption later on. Well, Netgear has introduced a trio of new streaming players to the masses, where all of them offer features such as 1080p HD, built-in WiFi, Intel WiDi, access to personal media and hundreds of popular streaming channels including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu and many others.

All three of the new Netgear streaming players fall under the NeoTV name, where one unique point of these new streaming players would be the fact that they are one of the first few in the market to support the HTML 5 standard, a standard which is rapidly being adopted by content providers as the ideal method for streaming entertainment into homes.

You will find in the new NeoTV Streaming Players a widespread use of HTML 5, HLS, and digital rights management tools like Microsoft PlayReady in order to provide access to hundreds of HD streaming channels in addition to a variety of entertainment features, where you as the end user or consumer will be able to enjoy an outstanding home theater experience.

If you have wanted to get a smart TV but have yet to make the upgrade, then fret not – the new Netgear streaming players will be able to get the job done just as well for a presumably far more affordable price. Not only that, if you are not satisfied with the content availability or ease-of-use of your smart TV, NeoTV will be able to broaden your access to content and features apps which are capable of transforming smartphones into remote control devices, making it a snap to find and play content.

The streaming players are the NeoTV (NTV300), NeoTV PRO (NTV300S) and NeoTV MAX (NTV300SL), playing nice with Netflix, Vudu, Hulu Plus, YouTube, Best Buy CinemaNow, Pandora, Rhapsody and many other channels.

The whole Netgear NeoTV Streaming Player range is already in the US, where the NeoTV Streaming Player (NTV300), NeoTV PRO Streaming Player (NTV300S) , and the NeoTV MAX Streaming Player (NTV300SL) will retail for $49.99, $59.99, and $69.99, respectively.

Doctor Who TARDIS Table Lamp

I guess when it comes to some franchises, you can just milk it a whole lot more than the rest, without having the franchise go stale at the same time. The Doctor Who series is one of them, although personally, my favorite would be the entire Star Wars universe that looks set to provide George Lucas’ descendants a comfortable life for the next three generations or perhaps, even more. Well, we have more stuff from Doctor Who this time around, with the $49.99 Doctor Who TARDIS Table Lamp making headlines for today.

You can find your way around the home with this gorgeous blue box, and to add to the realism factor for this officially licensed product, this table lamp will even make a TARDIS noise whenever you open her. Definitely a must-have for every would-be companion, don’t you think so? This is a lamp that comes with a double-sided lampshade, sporting the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond on one side, while the TARDIS is on the . Should there be no TARDIS noise effects, that would mean it is time to replenish the exhausted trio of AAA batteries within.

Doctor Who TARDIS Night Light

Assuming you have shared all there is to know about the Doctor Who series to your little one, hoping that your interest in the sci-fi series will rub off on him/her, how about being a wee bit more persuasive through the purchase of this $14.99 Doctor Who TARDIS Night Light? Yes sir, let the good Doctor provide some light in the dead dark of the night, ensuring that the pathway to the bathroom or hallway is always lit, making sure that monsters hiding underneath the bed will remain where they are supposed to be.

I suppose on a more psychological level with an overactive imagination in tow, the Doctor Who TARDIS Night Light would also be effective in discouraging nocturnal Dalek attacks, but that is another adventure to share with another time. The Doctor Who TARDIS Night Light will be able to plug into any standard outlet, where it will shine from both the windows and top in order to deliver an adequate amount of illumination for late night bathroom trips. You can always replace the 7 watt bulb inside when it blows.
