Google TV gets more (paid) content

Just when we wondered what was going on with the lack of Google TV news, an official blog post comes with some bits of progress. The most important part is that Google TV is going to get more content. This was an issue with the original version and it looks like the number of paid movies, shows etc is going to rise, which is a good thing. I’d rather pay for content, than not having content at all.

Secondly, the Google TV  team has announced that Sony, Vizio and LG will launch products that feature Google TV in “nine countries”. Additionally, the team said that more manufacturers were coming on board. Finally, Google Play (the store) for Google TV is going to get an updated user interface which should bring it closer to what handsets and tablet have. (more…)

Can Nature’s Forms And Sounds Help The Sleepless?

Cocoon rocking sleep chairWe know that art has been inspired by nature at least as far back as the
Cave Man. Technology too has had a love affair with nature for
thousands of years, though we are just recently experiencing a
resurgence with a new ‘biomimicry’ movement.
But besides biomimetic art and technology, there are biomimetic
exercises, such as those we find in certain yoga positions… and now,
an NYU design student and insomniac, has employed the shapes and sounds
of nature to help the sleepless sleep.

Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D is now available

You know, I am starting to wonder whether the larger a TV screen is, must the name itself get more and more complicated? After all, that seems to be the case with the Vizio XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV with Theater 3D, which is touted to be the first 21:9 ultra-widescreen TV that is available in the US. Vizio intends for the XVT Series Cinemawide LED Smart TV to cater for movie lovers, where it lets you enjoy the latest Hollywood blockbusters without being distracted by the two black bars – one at the top, and the other at the top and bottom. Bear in mind that the 21:9 Cinemawide display is wider compared to the standard issue 16:9 display which is what the majority of HDTVs offer. (more…)

No-Mix Vacuum Toilet relies on poo power

The next time you decide to lay a string of logs after a particular fiber-intensive meal, you might want to do your bit for the environment too with the No-Mix Vacuum Toilet. This particular toilet system was developed by a team of scientists and research assistants from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, where it will basically transform poo into electrical power – not to mention help you save 90% of the water that normally ends up flushed down in a standard issue toilet, too. According to associate professor Wang Jin-Yuan, “Waste is not waste, but a misplaced resource. With this new toilet system, 90 percent of water can be saved, so can you imagine how much water we waste every other day?” (more…)

Google TV to host Sirius XM Radio and Howard Stern

Google intends to enlist the assistance of shock jock Howard Stern (seen above) in order to gain more prominence for its Internet TV software known as Google TV which frankly, has yet to light up the world of living room entertainment ever since it debut a good 19 months ago. Not only that, this particular combination will also see Google rope in satellite radio provider Sirius XM who will also make available the entire range of its programming on Google TV, where Stern’s shows are thrown into the mix as well, alongside live sports courtesy of a new app which will enable listeners to pause live programs – and continue playback within a 5 hour time frame where its content is concerned.

Sirius XM intends to announce this particular deal at Google’s I/O developer conference that is happening in San Francisco tomorrow morning, and it will add to the growing list of Google TV partners including Netflix and Amazon.com. Sirius XM says that their app will be made available to download later this summer, although there was no release date provided, so we will just have to wait for an official notice.

SpeakerCraft Protege TV Speaker introduced

SpeakerCraft has just introduced its Protege TV Speaker to the masses, where it delivers audio to your ears in an extremely covert and sublime manner, thanks to it being an under-TV sound system which helps flat panel TVs sound as good as they look. Sporting powerful loudspeakers, subwoofers and DSP technology that are crammed in a single cabinet, the SpeakerCraft Protege takes mere minutes to hook up to TVs. SpeakerCraft engineers have also taken the opportunity to have the Protege TV speaker work by improving male and female vocals, while increasing higher listening levels to cater for larger rooms with the ability to throw out deeper bass. Sporting a couple of 5.25″ woofers in a tuned enclosure, our ears get to enjoy low-end bass that is long missing from vanilla flat panel TVs. (more…)

Shoe Pillow Lets You Wear Shoes Under Your Head

I love shoes. Shoes with heels, shoes without heels, shoes with straps, shoes without straps, and so on and so forth. But despite my immense love for footwear, I can spare little to no love for this $1,200 shoe-inspired throw pillow.

Shoe Throw PillowThe pillow presents a patchwork design of various men’s shoes in different styles and colors. Each of these throw pillows are sown by hand with a suede backing and buffed to a shiny finish with loads of was and polish.

It might be of more value to view “The Little Shoes” throw pillow as a work of art than a usable and comfortable throw pillow, since each one is signed by the artist and comes wrapped in a vintage silk scarf.

It’s also more of art than a practical choice for a throw pillow, given its $1,200 price tag. In the event that you want one for yourself, you can get it online at Yellow Velvet. Or you could choose to wear your shoes on your feet.
