Dexter Morgan Served on a Slab – in Cake Form

Prepare your kill room. Lay down some plastic sheets and get your boat ready to ditch the evidence. You’ve got cake to eat. A cake that looks like Dexter Morgan.

To celebrate the start of the final season of Dexter, Miss Cakehead and Conjurers Kitchen created this epic cake for the guys at FOX. It is a pretty realistic and creepy Dexter Morgan head – baked to scale.

This cake shares the name of Dexter’s boat “A Slice of Life”. Get it? The entire cake started out measuring 5ft 10” long, the same height as Michael C. Hall, the actor who plays Dexter. But the rest of the kill was disposed of, presumably from the boat. The whole cake took over 100 hours to make and weighed over 105 kilograms.

It was made with 24 eggs, 25 kilograms of flour, 16 kilograms of buttercream, 18 kilograms of sugar, 20 kilograms of sugar paste and marzipan. And 20 blood oranges. An awesome cake for an awesome series. Though it should have been blood red on the inside.

New Dead Space 3 Game Modes Encourage Replay After You Finish the Game

Considering I’m a huge fan of science fiction, first person shooters, and video games, on paper you would expect me to enjoy the Dead Space franchise. In reality, I’ve never been a big fan of the series. There are a lot of people out there who love the franchise though, and its third installment is set to launch very soon. Ahead of launch the developers are offering up a few interesting new details on the game.

ds31

Dead Space 3 executive producer Steve Papoutsis has revealed that the game will have four additional difficulty modes that will only unlock after players beat the game one time. Two of these new modes will include Classic and Hardcore. Classic mode removes the new game’s crosshairs and resource management system to make it feel and play more like past games in the series. The Hardcore mode gives players only a single life for the entire campaign. Yikes.

Game+ mode lets you play through the game again with all of your weapons and arsenal that you finished the game with. DS3 will also feature an interesting Pure Survival mode where the players have to craft everything they use from ammo to health and weapons. In this mode there are no resources hidden around the map. That sounds like a cool challenge. Papoutsis also said that after launch the game would get new downloadable content. He wouldn’t give up any details of exactly what be in that DLC, but he said think “disturbing” to get an idea of what may be coming.

Dead Space 3 releases on February 5, 2013 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Horror Movies Scare Those Extra Pounds Away

I haven’t watched a horror movie in years. The last time I did, I screamed my head off and kept imagining weird faces and dark figures where there were none for months afterwards. I am, however, trying to lose weight, although I think I’ll stick to traditional exercises despite these new developments.

And by ‘new developments’, I mean the one uncovered by a recent study that the University of Westminster did, which was commissioned by UK video rental company LOVEFiLM.

Horror WeightSo what’s the connection between losing weight and watching scary movies? Apparently, there’s a lot. Because of your body’s reaction when you’re watching something that could scare the living daylights out of you, you might end up losing weight more quickly because of your fear. Apparently, you can burn as many as 113 extra calories by watching 90 minutes of stress-inducing horror flicks. As a matter of fact, a single viewing of The Shining burned off 184 calories.

Horror Movies

According to physiologist Dr. Richard McKenzie: “As the pulse quickens and blood pumps around the body faster, the body experiences a surge in adrenaline… It is this release of fast acting adrenaline, produced during short bursts of intense stress (or in this case, brought on by fear), which is known to lower the appetite, increase the Basal Metabolic Rate and ultimately burn a higher level of calories.”

Sounds like torture. Personally, I’ll stick to my diet and exercises for now because I don’t think I can stomach all this horror just to ‘scare away’ the calories.

Horror Cake Pops are Too Scary to Eat

I couldn’t sleep for days after watching Carrie. I cringed every time I saw someone with a video camera after I watched The Blair Witch Project. And don’t even get me started on The Exorcist.

Some people say that you’ve got to immerse yourself in the things you fear the most so that you’ll get over them. And what better way to get over these horror flicks than by chomping on the women featured in them? That probably sounds a little wrong, but you’ll get it once you see this series of cake pops that Miss Insomnia Tulip whipped up recently.

Horror Cake Pops Carrie

Each horrifyingly detailed pop features the leading ladies of all three movies I mentioned earlier, plus Misery (which I have yet to watch.) They’re made and painted wonderfully, but I’m not sure I can stomach these cake pops, much less bite their heads off in the process of eating them.

Slice up this Dexter Cake Before Dexter Slices up Another Victim

Dexter returned for another season last night, and I haven’t watched it on my DVR yet – so don’t tell me what happened! The show is known for its gory kill-room scenes with its anti-hero serial killer/vigilante Dexter Morgan as he does in his victims. So for those of you with weak stomachs, this might not be for you – but if you like cake – and a little blood, then you’ll love this.

This Dexter cake was posted by redditor gold-coin. And no he didn’t make it, and yes, it’s just a basic white cake with some fake blood on it, some red sprinkles and some action figures stuck on top, but it’s still pretty creative. I especially like the plastic wrap around the victim. Nice touch. Though I think the cake needs some plastic tarps draped around its base to complete the effect. The cake was posted in response to these equally awesome Dexter-inspired cupcakes.

Now I just need some blood slide candies, and my sweet tooth will be fulfilled.

These monster body parts light switch plates are disgustingly awesome. They are perfect for any Halloween party or haunted house. They are completely gross, but amazing.

I used to be scared when I turned the lights off, but now I think I would be even more scared with the lights on. With the lights on, you can see all of the horrible details on these handmade switch plates and you know they will get you. Of course, in the dark, you’d feel all that weirdness when you reach for the switch, too. These plates are made with polymer clay over a standard sized light switch cover and painted with acrylics, matte varnish and gloss varnish.

The Worst Job at Google: A Year of Watching Beastiality, Child Pornography, and Other Terrible Internet Things [Google]

People put terrible things on the internet. Very terrible things. And it’s someone’s job to make sure that regular people don’t run into them. But that is a terrifying job, and it understandably scars a lot of people who do it. Buzzfeed talked to one former employee who told the story. More »

Dracula, The Mummy and six other horror classics coming in a Bluray set

Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection will arrive on shelves October 2nd, and pack eight classic horror movies, all restored so they can be seen in the highest quality possible. Among the releases is Creature from the Black Lagoon restored for Blu-ray 3D (yes, like Dial M for Murder it was originally shot and released in 3D back in 1954), as well as Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and Phantom of the Opera. This is all a part of the ongoing Universal centennial celebration that’s seeing its vaults unleash many of our favorites for the first time in high definition. After the break you can check out a featurette detailing the process undertaken to prep Dracula for Blu-ray release, as well as a press release with details on all of the flicks and which extras are included for each movie. Of course, the downside of a pack like this is that it’s pricey — the MSRP is $160, but it’s available for preorder on Amazon currently priced at $112.
