Giant Military Hovercraft Lands on Crowded Beach Because Russia

In the most recent bit of Russian bizarreness, a 550-ton military hovercraft carrying sophisticated weaponry casually pulled up onto a crowded, seemingly public beach. Because, apparently, Russia wants to become Europe’s own personal prison planet.

The Golf Cart Hovercraft: Not Your Father’s Hovercraft – Your Grandfather’s Hovercraft

When I think of hovercraft, I think of James Bond on a military ride that hovers fast and zips all over the place – not a golf cart. Perhaps this is what retired spies drive on the weekend.

hovercraft golf cart

The hover golf cart is powered by a 65hp twin-cylinder Hirth engine and its nine-blade axial-flow ducted fan propels the craft up to 45 mph and 9 inches off the ground. It will carry four passengers and two golf bags. This thing will let you golf in style while you are complaining about your aching hip and young people. Here’s some footage of PGA golfer Bubba Watson taking his hovercart for a spin:

Pretty sweet. If you like what this thing has to offer, it can be yours for $58,000(USD) over at Hammacher Schlemmer. Now you just have to find a golf course that is okay with it.

Bubba Watson's hovercraft golf cart available now for $58k, that's one dollar for every jealous comment

When we first saw the BW1 golf cart hovercraft, it’s fair to say we were excited. But now — if you’ve got burdensome disposable income — you can buy one for yourself. If you’re willing to drop the requisite $58,000, you can cruise the fairway (not to mention the rough and water obstacles) in a BW1 of your very own. It comes complete with a 65-hp twin-cylinder Hirth engine and a streamlined, sound minimizing fan that promises enough power to reach 45 mph and ferry two golfers plus caddies between holes. So, it may not be for those still improving their technique, but for the swinger that’s got everything, it’s the perfect ride for your trip to the floating golf course.

Golf Cart Hovercraft

Golf is not a cheap hobby or sport, at least relatively speaking. First of all, there is the issue of membership fees at a golf club of your choice, and obviously the more exclusive it is, the more expensive it will be! When it comes to equipment and the choice of clothing, golf too, would edge out other sports like say, chess, table tennis, swimming, and even running, and with that, the cost would also be a whole lot more for golf. I guess if you really want to be extravagant about the sport (while getting the approval from your other half along the way, of course), then you would not mind forking out the dough for this $58,000 Golf Cart Hovercraft.

Yes sir, you read that right. The Golf Cart Hovercraft is one golf cart that you would most probably not see anywhere else, as it glide over sand traps and water hazards without batting an eyelid, doing so on a cushion of air – and it will also traverse just as easily over fairways and the rough. What powers the Golf Cart Hovercraft would be a 65-hp twin-cylinder Hirth engine, with a nine-blade axial-flow ducted fan that propels the craft to speeds of up to 45 mph and 9″ off the ground, ensuring that the greens (and other small animals) will not be harmed. Heck, this is good enough to cross a pond or stream, too.

Oakley gives Bubba Watson a hovercraft to replace his golf cart (video)

Oakley gives Bubba Watson a hovercraft to replace his golf cart video

While there’s plenty of tech to improve your swing, the golf course itself doesn’t see too much innovation which is why this attention-grab from Oakley and Bubba Watson is even more enjoyable. The audacious golfer decided that he was tired of pootling around courses in a golf buggy, so his new sponsors enlisted the help of Neoteric Hovercraft to build him a whip that isn’t restricted to the cart path. In fact, with the BW1 hovercraft, Watson can take shortcuts across water hazards and through sand traps while shaded under the traditional golf buggy canopy — making it the perfect ride for the eccentric 2012 Masters winner. If you’d like to see the other golfers stare in slack-jawed disbelief, then head on past the break for the video.

Personal Hovercraft Now Seats Two

Personal Hovercraft Now Seats TwoIf you happen to have plenty of spare cash lying around at home or in the bank, then it would make plenty of sense to check out what gadget mavens Hammacher Schlemmer have up their sleeves this time around, where a cool £13,400 will net you this two person Hovercraft that you see above. The Hovercraft will help glide up to two adults on a 20 cm cushion of air over water and land, capable of hitting speeds of up to 100 kph, now how about that? This is made possible thanks to a 60-horsepower two-cylinder, air-cooled gasoline engine which will power its 91cm diameter fan that sports half a dozen blades.

While it was designed for use on water, it is more than capable of making its way across other terrain such as ice, sand, mud, snow, or grass. Controlling the Hovercraft is a snap with its handlebars, while the right handle grip throttle will control your speed. It has received approval by the US Coast Guard, so you might want to drop an order for it sooner rather than later. Got to beat the Joneses, you know.

If I Can’t Have a DeLorean Time Machine, I’d Totally Take This DeLorean Hovercraft Instead

I’ve grown up. I’ve faced reality. I now know that getting a DeLorean time machine like in Back to the Future isn’t going to happen any time soon. I think I’m okay with it. I’d definitely be okay with it if I could replace the DeLorean-sized hole in my heart with this awesome DeLorean Hovercraft. It was spotted tearing up the beaches of San Francisco and great Scott it looks so freaking fun. More »

DeLorean Hovercraft Caught In The Wild In San Francisco

We’ve covered Back To The Future quite a bit here at Ubergizmo since we know, just like us, you’re all probably big fans of the films, TV shows and delicious cereal. We’ve seen hoverboards, sneakers and a LEGO set inspired by Back to the Future. But have you ever seen a DeLorean hovercraft? You have?! Well, let’s make believe you didn’t so the rest of the class could enjoy this video.

A few days ago, YouTube user Terry Barentsen happened to be in the right place at the right time as a hovercraft made to look like a DeLorean was seen driving around. Since it didn’t reach 88 miles-per-hour, it wasn’t able to travel through time, but we’re sure Doc Brown would still be proud of this creation, even though this thing doesn’t move quite as well as the real DeLorean, or even the hoverboard.

We’re not sure what exactly is going on with California as a RC Superman was spotted there just a few weeks ago. We’re just happy there are people around to record these bizarre instances so they can spread through the Internet life wildfire.

How You Make a Hovercraft An Object Of Lust

Hovercrafts have the distinct advantage of being just as comfortable on water as they are on land, but usually at the cost of a pretty ugly and utilitarian design. So the engineers at Mercier-Jones decided to take a crack at designing a hovercraft that was as lustworthy as a sports car, and from the looks of it they more than succeeded. More »

Aerofex Hover Bike Brings Return of the Jedi’s Speeder Bikes to Life

I have dreamed about owning a Landspeeder or a Speeder bike for ages. Now it looks like these vehicles might finally be becoming a reality thanks to a California-based company called Aerofex, which is using a similar hovering design in their vehicles.
Star Wars Speederbike
The vehicle in the video below uses helicopter dynamics to lift and propel it across rough terrain.

They’ve managed to fix the stability issue by including a control bar at the the users knee level that allows the pilot to lean and balance the vehicle and keep it airborne.

The vehicle has been tested in California’s Mojave Desert and also in more crowded conditions. Right now, the Aerofex machine is being tested at a top speed of 30 mph and a max height of 15 feet above the ground. I can’t wait until we can buy these. Put two droids in the back and you are good to go.
