Waterproof HTC Butterfly 2 With 5.2 Inch Display Rumored For January 2014

Waterproof HTC Butterfly 2 With 5.2 Inch Display Rumored For January 2014

Rumor has it that HTC currently has another “Butterfly” smartphone up its sleeve. The Butterfly branding isn’t that popular in markets other than Asia, the first device from this lineup eventually showed up in the U.S. as the Droid DNA from Verizon. This particular lineup might be about to get a bump, with HTC launching a new Butterfly device with an impressive spec list. The HTC Butterfly 2 is expected to be launched in January 2014, it is rumored to have Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quadcore processor, a 5.2 inch full HD display and it is also said to be waterproof.

Nothing else has been rumored about this device. There’s no word on battery capacity, camera storage, RAM, OS version, pricing and availability. It remains to be seen if this smartphone will remain an Asia exclusive for a long time before finally coming under a different brand name to other markets. HTC itself hasn’t said anything about a new Butterfly device, so the rumor should definitely be taken with a grain of salt. January 2014 is roughly 100 days away, so the expected release time-frame isn’t that far off. If this device is indeed coming out next year, perhaps we might continue to hear more rumors and we might possibly be treated to leaked photos as well.

Android 4.2.2 With Sense 5.1 Leaked For HTC Butterfly

Android 4.2.2 With Sense 5.1 Leaked For HTC ButterflyGood news HTC Butterfly owners, if you’ve been waiting for the Android 4.2.2 update with Sense 5.1, you’re in luck because it seems that the update along with the latest Sense UI has been leaked. What this means is that if you’re familiar with flashing ROMs and whatnot, we guess this update is perfect for you. If you’re a little unfamiliar with the process, we suggest you should probably do your homework before proceeding, or wait it out until HTC officially releases it. In any case if you’d like to check it out, you can head on over to the XDA Developers forums for the download. Remember to proceed with caution, but in any case we’re guessing this leak will probably appeal more to developers than regular folks, but at the same time hopefully this also indicates that the official update should be on its way.

HTC Is Already Planning Successor To The Butterfly/Droid DNA

HTC Is Already Planning Successor To The Butterfly/Droid DNAThe HTC Butterfly, or Droid DNA for those in the US, was released just last year and unsurprisingly it seems that HTC is currently planning its successor. According to HTC’s Ben Ho, he confirmed that HTC is apparently looking to capitalize on the fact that customers seem to enjoy extraordinarily large displays for their phones, namely with devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the LG Optimus G Pro. In fact flagship phones from Sony and Samsung have also encroached upon phablet territory with their 5” displays.

Unsurprisingly Ho did not provide any details regarding the specifications of the Butterfly’s successor, but given the flagship phones of 2013 from Samsung, LG, Sony and even HTC themselves, we can expect at the very least a Full HD display, a quad-core processor and maybe even a 13MP camera. This news comes as something of a surprise since earlier reports did suggest that the HTC One could be HTC’s only flagship phone for 2013. In any case we’ll keep our eyes peeled, so check back with us at a later date for the details.

    HTC Butterfly Pre-Order On Expansys

E-tailer Expansys is quick to the draw with HTC’s latest flagship smartphone, the HTC Butterfly being made available for your pre-order whim and fancy. The HTC Butterfly is also known to be the global variant of the HTC Droid DNA (on Verizon Wireless) or the HTC J Butterfly in Japan. Assuming you access Expansys’ UK page or a different European version (in other words, just about any other regional website save for America), you can look up the HTC Butterfly for a pre-order.

Too bad this is all that is known as at press time, since there has been no other mention concerning pricing and availability. Apart from that, it remains to be seen whether the pre-order in regions outside of Europe would mean you would be getting an imported model or not. So far, the hardware specifications on the HTC Butterfly do seem to match those which have been published by HTC on its website, where among them include the radio frequency bands and a microSD memory card slot.

HTC Butterfly announced, international variant of the DROID DNA

We’re sure that some of you guys might be amazed by the HTC DROID DNA, but unfortunately due to its Verizon exclusivity, some users might not be able to get their hands on it for whatever reasons. Well the good news is that if you really want the DROID DNA but don’t want to sign with Verizon and don’t mind forking out the full retail price, the Taiwanese company has announced the HTC Butterfly, which is basically the DROID DNA’s international cousin, and the GSM variant of the HTC J Butterfly which first made its appearance in Japan before moving to the US and rebranded as the DROID DNA.

The HTC Butterfly will feature the same specs, with the only difference being that this version is meant for other markets around the world. As a quick recap, the device will sport a 5” 1920×1080 Full HD display, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor under the hood with 2GB of RAM accompanying it. It will also come with 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD, an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 2.1MP front-facing camera and will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board. We’re not sure how much the HTC Butterfly will cost or when it will be available, but we expect that those details will differ from country to country.
