HTC posts up October 2012 earnings

HTC has been slowly creeping downward into a rut recently, and the company’s October earnings report isn’t making the situation any better. Compared to October 2011, HTC’s October 2012 sales have dropped by a whopping 61% — the company’s biggest yearly drop in revenue, ever. Obviously, this isn’t good news.

This is the second month in a row that HTC’s revenues fell by double digits, down almost 19 percent from September. Plus, it’s even worse from year-over-year. On top of the 61% for this month, September also had a rough drop of 53%. HTC sold $588 million worth of smartphones during October.

HTC expects its Q4 2012 revenue to be approximately $2 billion, with a gross profit margin of approximately 23%. Of course, the company may be in for a long 4th quarter, but the release of its new Windows Phone 8X and the rumored DROID DNA may boost sales a bit for HTC. The DNA is rumored to be HTC’s first 5-inch phablet with a 1080p display.

However, in order to turn a profit and report great numbers in their Q4 2012 earnings report, the company will have to sell several million units of their new devices, which is very much possible, but they’ll be crossing their fingers the whole time. However, the holiday season alone may be enough to pull HTC out of the quicksand.

HTC and Verizon NYC Event on November 13

HTC and Verizon have sent media invites for a mysterious event in New York City on November 13. Of course, given that Verizon is involved, it would make sense if this was for the announcement of the HTC Droid DNA, also known as the HTC DLX (“deluxe”), which is 5″ Android device which would compete with the Galaxy Note 2 from Samsung.  The HTC Droid DNA is currently rumored to be available in December.

It could also be about the HTC 8X, a slim Windows Phone from HTC that should make its debuts on Verizon’s network sometime this month. So — what do you think this event is about? What we know is that we’ll be there to cover it, so stay tuned and come back to Ubergizmo on November 13.

HTC Verizon event set for November 13, DROID DNA likely

On the 13th of this month there will indeed be an event held by HTC and Verizon at once, bringing on a new device that’s quite likely looking like what we’ve been teased with over the past few weeks – the HTC DROID DNA. This device is the only un-revealed machine we’ve seen that’s heading for Verizon from HTC that’s been visible in leaks over the past few weeks, and with the way the market looks today, such a phablet is quite likely to pop up soon. You’ll want to stick right here to SlashGear for the big event on the 13th as it’ll be bright with high definition and massive display size, one way or another.

The name DROID DNA comes from internal documents that’ve popped up over the past few weeks coming from Verizon, HTC, and everywhere in-between. The folks at HTC have revealed a device in Japan that takes on a form not unlike what we’re expecting here, calling it the HTC J Butterfy. This device has a massive 1080p display, that’s undeniably sharp, sharper than the whole rest of the market at the moment at 440 pixels per inch.

This device’s definition – if we’re just talking pixel density – is nearly 100 PPI denser than the next best device on the market. Nearby is a BlackBerry testing device getting pumped for BlackBerry 10, but nothing else is up nearby for the market – the Butterfly already exists. Coming down Verizon’s way, we’re expecting that the code-name DROID DNA very well may be sticking.

The images we’ve seen of this device thus far have been solid, with a lovely red ring around a mostly black device, red accents reflecting the rest of the DROID lineup that’s kept Verizon strong over the past few years. With the HTC DROID DNA we’ll have a new version of HTC Sense that works with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (not 4.2 quite yet we must assume) and we’ll have Qualcomm under the hood. What’s not yet as solid is the size of the processor, be it the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core or the S4 Pro quad-core as found in the LG Optimus G.

UPDATE: @evleaks has posted another image that essentially confirms that this event will be for the DROID DNA – have a peek at the invite and the wallpaper for this device, and you shall see! Also have a peek at the timeline below to see more details on this fabled device and we’ll see how real it all is on the 13th of this month!

HTC and Verizon to hold a press event in New York City on November 13th

HTC and Verizon to hold a press event in New York City on November 13th

Between Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and a few other odds and ends, this fall has been jam-packed with splashy press announcements leading up to the holiday shopping season. Looks like we’re not done just yet: Verizon and HTC announced they’ll be holding a press event in New York City on November 13th. Now, the $64,000 question is: what OS will be on display? Will it be the Android-powered Droid DNA that just passed through the FCC? And here’s another question: does “our latest collaboration” imply an exclusivity agreement? Or what if this is just a coming-out party for HTC’s 8X Windows Phone flagship? It’s not a far-fetched idea: we already know it’s coming to Verizon, but the exact pricing and on-sale date have yet to be revealed. Then again, the 8X has already been shown off at a press event or two, and we’re not sure a Verizon-branded variant would merit such a high-profile news conference. We’ll find out next week, where several of us Engadget editors will be reporting live.

HTC revenues continue to drop at alarming rates, down 61% from last October

HTC continues to struggle as revenues drop at alarming rates

It’s no secret that HTC has hit a bit of a rough patch. Things started taking a turn for the worse in Q4 of 2011 when its revenue finally stopped growing and profits dropped along with it. Its been a continuous slide since and, if October’s sales numbers are any indication, Q4 of 2012 isn’t going to be when he Taiwanese manufacturer finally stops the bleeding. For the second month in a row revenues fell by double digits, down almost 19 percent from from September. Year-over-year, things are even worse. Revenues are down 61 percent from October of last year, a significant fall from even last month’s 53 percent drop off. The company may even struggle to meet its rather conservative earnings goals. Things are beginning to looks seriously dire for the company which has fallen almost as spectacularly as it climbed. But there’s always hope. With the Windows Phone 8X, 8S and the One X+ all right around the bend, the final two months of the quarter could present HTC with a chance at redemption.

AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 coming November 9 for $99

AT&T has finally unveiled its pricing and launch dates for their range of Windows Phone 8 devices. Nokia’s Lumia 920 will be available for a cool $99.99 on November 9, with pre-orders starting on November 7. Nokia’s Lumia 820 will also launch on November 9 and will be priced at $49.99 with pre-orders starting on November 7. HTC’s Windows Phone 8X starts at $99.99 for the 8GB version and $199.99 for the 16GB. The 8X will be available sometime “before Thanksgiving.”

AT&T also revealed an exclusive version of the Windows Phone 8X in Limelight (yellow) as well as California Blue, and they’re the only carrier to offer this device in such colors. These exclusive colors will only be available for the 8GB version of the phone. AT&T also says they will include a free wireless charging plate with each purchase of Lumia 920 for a limited time.

Nokia’s Lumia 920 is the company’s new flagship handset, and it features 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack display with a 1280×768 resolution, and it’s protected by Gorilla Glass 2. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 1GB of RAM. The 920′s younger brother, the Lumia 820, features the same processor and RAM specs, but has a slightly smaller 4.3-inch display.

HTC’s Windows Phone 8X has a 4.3-inch display with a 1280×720 resolution. The device also features and Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz and 1GB of RAM. Other than the exclusive AT&T colors, the 8X comes in Graphite Black and Flame Red. AT&T has not announced the release date for the 8X, nor when you can pre-order one, although the carrier says the phone will be out before Thanksgiving.

HTC revenues dropped 60 percent last month

HTC saw its monthly sales dropping roughly 60 percent last month. Announcing its unaudited consolidated revenue for the month of October, the Taiwanese consumer electronics company said that it had a total revenue of NT$17.2 billion or $589 million based on today’s exchange rate. Although the amount isn’t so bad, at least from our own point of view, it’s important to note that HTC’s overall revenue last year for the month of October was NT$44,114 million or $NT 44 billion – a $1.5 billion value.

If you’ll do the math, that’s a whopping 60 percent drop. HTC is reportedly planning to ramp up its revenue to $NT60 billion in the Holiday quarter. But the numbers don’t lie. HTC clearly has a mountain to climb. So far, HTC is betting on its new flagship smartphones running Windows Phone 8 – the HTC Windows Phone 8X and HTC Windows Phone 8S. HTC also has the HTC One X+, the HTC J Butterfly, and the Verizon-bound HTC Droid DNA that could arrive this December.

AT&T To Launch $99 Nokia Lumia 920, $49 Lumia 820 On Nov. 9; HTC’s 8X To Arrive “Before Thanksgiving”

9208x

Well, there we have it: after vaguely pointing to a November launch window for its first batch of Windows Phone 8 handsets, AT&T has finally decided to get a bit more specific.

Nokia’s long-awaited Lumia 820 and 920 will both launch on November 9 (that’s this Friday, in case you were curious), with pre-orders for the handsets beginning tomorrow.

Despite previous reports to the contrary, the flagship Lumia 920 will set buyers back $99 with a two-year contract — if that sounds familiar, it’s because the AT&T-bound Lumia 900 made its debut at the same price point, though that plan wasn’t without its early hiccups.

To top it all off, AT&T will throw in a free wireless charging plate (for a little while, anyway), a move that highlights just how strongly Nokia wants you to buy their stuff. Meanwhile, the mid-range Lumia 820 will sell for $49 on contract, and I really have to wonder what kind of traction the thing will get when the price differential between this and Nokia’s top-tier Windows Phone is a relatively small one.

Of course, Nokia’s Windows Phones aren’t the only ones being groomed for a November launch — HTC’s Windows Phone 8X is slated for a release “before Thanksgiving,” but exactly when we can expect to see it on store shelves is still anyone’s guess. The standard 16GB model is priced at $199 with a two-year contract (which seems shockingly high for a Windows Phone, despite being a standard price tag for other devices), but the more wallet-conscious can opt for an exclusive 8GB model that will retail for $99.

HTC DROID DNA phablet clears the FCC

Earlier today, we reported that HTC’s DROID DNA phablet, which features a 5-inch 1080p display, was rumored to be released on December 6 at Verizon. Lending those rumors more credence, the DROID DNA has cleared the FCC, which dubbed it the HTC6435LVW. This comes after last week’s image leak showing off the phone from Twitter user @evleaks.

There has been noise in the rumorsphere for awhile that a version of the J Butterfly was headed to Verizon. Assuming the DNA is similarly spec’d as the aforementioned Butterfly, we can expect an astounding 440ppi display. This comes in light of other phablet smartphones that have been hitting the market, including Samsung’s Galaxy Note series. The J Butterfly is only available in Japan.

Also known as the DLX, the DROID DNA features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 full HD display. Inside you’ll find a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, as well as 16GB of storage space and a 2,500mAh battery to keep it all a-glow. Right now it looks like the handset runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

According to the FCC filing, the DNA features Verizon’s 4G LTE radios, in addition to GSM for those times when you need to do a bit of global roaming. This information, in addition to the multiple image leaks and abounding rumors, indicates that the phablet is indeed slated to launch soon. While it doesn’t seem like it’ll be out in time to nab a nice Black Friday discount, it looks like it’ll be here in time to find its way under a few holiday trees.

HTC DLX takes a stroll through the FCC’s gardens

The HTC DLX, a smartphone that many have associated to be the US variant of the HTC J Butterfly, is touted to be the first smartphone on the Android platform (or any other mobile operating systems, for that matter) that delivers a Full HD resolution display. Having said that, it is nice to know that the HTC DLX does seem to be on its way to Verizon Wireless, as the FCC has just confirmed such suspicions through the HTC DLX’s filing at their doors. Sporting the HTC6435LVW name alongside approval for it to play nice with Verizon’s CDMA and LTE bands, there is also HSPA capability thrown into the mix so that you can roam around the world without missing a beat, now how about that? All we need to do now is sit tight and wait, hoping that Verizon themselves would come up with some sort of official information.

In other news, we have also discovered that the HTC DLX (some say the HTC Droid DNA) will be arriving on Verizon later this December 6th, and if that were to be true, it means we will be able to take advantage of this smartphone’s arrival as a nice Christmas present to ourselves for a job well done this year.
