Stealth black HTC One peeks out of AT&T and Sprint web stores, promises to be available 'soon'

Torn between getting an HTC One right now and waiting for that sleek black variant? We know the feeling, and the folks at Sprint and AT&T aren’t making it easier: both providers have tossed up a product page for the color. Unfortunately, a solid street date is nowhere to be seen — Sprint only promises that it’ll be available “soon.” The tease won’t make the wait any more bearable, but if you want to ogle that press image a bit more, check out the product pages at source.

HTC One now available on AT&T and T-Mobile

As expected, the HTC One is now free-for-all. Those on AT&T and T-Mobile can grab the new device starting today either online or at a handful of retail stores, including Best Buy, Radio Shack, Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, Costco, and Car Toys. The phone will also be available on Amazon.com, as well as at carrier stores.

The handset will be available in both 32GB and 64GB flavors on AT&T, with Ma Bell being the exclusive carrier for the 64GB version, which means that if you’re hankering for as much storage space as you can get, AT&T seems like your only option at that point, but we can’t imagine 32GB not being enough for the everyman.

For now, you can only grab the glacier silver version of the HTC One, with a black model coming in the next few weeks, which AT&T will also have available in a 64GB flavor. If you decide to go with T-Mobile, you might be pleased to know that you’ll be treated with a free car dock, which is only for a limited time, so be sure to get there soon if you want it.

The HTC One will cost $199.99 and $299.99 for the 32GB and 64GB versions, respectively. T-Mobile users can expect a down-payment of $99.99 with another 24 monthly payments of $20. If it’s the unlocked or developer edition of the new device that you’re looking for, those have been delayed. The exact ship date isn’t known, but it’s said to be toward the end of the month.

HTC Desire L Headed For Taiwan

HTC Desire L Headed For TaiwanBeleaguered smartphone manufacturer HTC is going through some tough times at the moment, and we would like to see them pull through and emerge from whatever crisis that they are going through at the moment stronger than ever before. Perhaps all of the buzz surrounding the HTC One would help lift the company out from the doldrums by the time they report their earnings for this quarter? Well, here we are with the HTC Desire L, which is a new model under the Desire family that will hit Taiwan in time to come.

The HTC Desire L will feature a 4.3-inch Super LCD2 display at 800 x 480 resolution, in addition to sporting Beats audio processing that ought to make you appreciate those MP3s of yours all over again, accompanied by 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal memory that can be further expanded via a microSD memory card slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera at the back, GPS suppose, and a 1,800mAh battery to keep it going. Clearly an entry level Android smartphone, and will it ever make its way outside of Taiwan?

Editor’s Letter: Google glass gone wild

In each issue of Distro, editor-in-chief Tim Stevens publishes a wrap-up of the week in news.

DNP Editor's Letter Google glass gone wild

It seems like ages since Sergey Brin staged one of the most dramatic product launches of all time at last year’s Google I/O, guiding a bemused audience through a cavalcade of extreme antics that saw a prototype Google Glass headset delivered to the Moscone Center courtesy of skydivers, BMX riders and mountain climbers. This week, the very first Explorer Editions of Google Glass shipped to lucky recipients through rather more pedestrian means: UPS. Still, those deliveries were received with no less excitement.

These early units are shipping out in waves, with many of the I/O pre-orderers (including this eager editor) left waiting and watching unboxing videos with envy. The first videos of the early editions in action started hitting YouTube en masse, something we’re sure will become increasingly commonplace through the spring. We also finally got the full specs for the thing, including 802.11b/g and Bluetooth connectivity, 16GB of internal storage and a 5-megapixel camera capable of 720p video recording.

HTC Desire L surfaces in Taiwan

HTC has gone official with a new Android-powered smartphone in Taiwan called the Desire L. The smartphone offers modest specifications, which would seem to indicate that it will be a budget offering. The device will also be available in multiple colors including pink, white, and black.

htc-desire-l-lead4

The smartphone measures 128 x 66.9 x 8.9 mm and weighs 118 g with the battery installed. The phone features a 4.3-inch super LCD2 touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800. The processor under the hood is a 1 GHz dual-core unit and the phone will run the Android operating system. It is unclear exactly which version of Android the device runs, but it will use the HTC Sense user interface.

The phone uses a microSIM card and has 4 GB of integrated storage. The phone software that’s preinstalled does take up some of that 4 GB of storage space, so actual storage will be less than 4 GB. The upside is that the phone has a microSD memory card slot for storage expansion. The Desire L also features 1 GB of RAM and integrated GPS/GLONASS.

The smartphone will operate on HSPA/WCDMA networks with 900/2100 MHz frequencies and GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks at 900/1800/1900 MHz. Other features the phone include a five-megapixel rear camera capable of recording 720p resolution video. The phone also has integrated Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and a 3.5 mm headphone Jack. HTC also integrates Beats Audio technology into the device. Power comes from an 1800 mAh internal rechargeable battery. There’s no indication the pricing or availability at this time.

PSA: HTC One available today at AT&T and Sprint

PSA HTC One available today at AT&T and Sprint

April showers might bring May flowers, but the only precipitation we really care for around here is that of flagship handsets into stores. In that case, it’s time to break out the raincoats: the HTC One is officially on sale at AT&T and Sprint as of today. Both carriers and their resellers are offering the aluminum wunderkind in its silver guise at $200 on contract for a 32GB model, with AT&T still holding the US exclusive on a $300 64GB version. Those jonesing for different hues or radios will have to wait a little while longer, however. The T-Mobile edition won’t officially land until the 24th, and a black 32GB model is still “weeks” away from landing at AT&T and Sprint. Provided you’re not the exception to the rule, though, you’re cleared to buy what’s arguably the first US-bound flagship of the year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Rumors Suspected To Be The Work Of HTCs PR Team, According To Eldar MurtazinThe other day we reported on a rumor that with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the phablet could be seeing a major revamp and could (finally) be turning to more premium materials, such as the use of metal.
