Apple donating $2.5 million to Hurricane Sandy victims

Just last week, Apple partnered with the American Red Cross to help thousands of victims affected by Hurricane Sandy. It launched a page in the iTunes Store for generous and kind-hearted people to pledge their donations. Today, as reported by 9to5Mac, Apple is donating $2.5 million to the American Red Cross to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims. Apparently Apple employees, together with its customers, have raised thousands of dollar for the relief effort. Apple, under the leadership of Tim Cook, has been increasing its charity efforts lately. The company truly deserves a pat in the back. Check out Tim Cook’s announcement after the break. (more…)

Samsung donates $3 million to Hurricane Sandy victims

Samsung, a South-Korean consumer electronics giant, a fierce Apple rival, and currently the top OEM in the U.S., is lending its hand to all victims affected by Hurricane Sandy. The company announced that it will be donating $3 million to help the East Coast communities. Pledging the nifty amount to the American Red Cross through ABC Television’s “Day of Giving” campaign that raised more than $10 million, Samsung hopes that the generous donation will provide immediate and direct assistance to those in need.

Samsung also promised to provide support during the recovery period in the weeks and months to come. “New Jersey has been home to Samsung’s U.S. headquarters since we established our business here in 1982 and our region has been the hardest hit by this disaster,” said Y.K. Kim, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics North America. “Samsung’s first priority has been to ensure the safety and security of our U.S. employees and their families. Now it is important that we provide assistance to our neighbors.”
