Porsche 918 Spyder caught on tape at the Nürburgring, bank accounts shiver (video)

Porsche 918 Spyder spotted during testing session at Nrburgring, bank accounts shiver video

Started saving up for your $845,000 purchase next fall yet? Yeah, neither have we. But we’re at least considering it once again — albeit not for very long — thanks to a sneaky videographer that caught the dapper Porsche 918 Spyder winding around the turns of the Nürburgring in Germany. Packing a V8 with two electric motors, the super car can hit 60MPH in a hair over three seconds and touts a fuel efficiency of 78MPG. Don’t worry, though, you have until sometime late next year to get your stacks lined up to park one in your driveway.

QBEAK electric car has a 500-mile range [Concept]

Although electric cars are becoming more and more popular these days, one challenge remains – beating gasoline-powered cars in terms of mileage. But the QBEAK electric car is trying to change all that. The QBEAK electric car, currently in its conceptual phase, can reportedly run 500 miles on a single battery charge – even better than the Chevrolet Volt hybrid that can cover 375 miles on a single charge. QBEAK will utilize bio-methanol to improve its battery life.

According to its designers, bio-methanol is better than gasoline or diesel because it can produce less carbon dioxide. Mogens Lokke, the CEO of ECOmove, said that the car will be outfitted with six battery modules inside its chassis instead of using a conventional fixed battery. The designers are planning to release a battery-powered model later this year. Meanwhile, a battery/ fuel model is also expected to arrive next year. The QBEAK car will sport in-wheel electric motors to deliver speeds up to 120kph.

ego Hybrid Flash Drive iPhone Case Combines 2 Essential Things

iPhone cases and USB flash drives are probably some of the most popular tech around, and both things that you almost always have to have on you. That’s one of the reasons why ego decided to combine them into one sleek package. The ego Hybrid iPhone case looks pretty good, and you’ll be able to carry a USB flash drive without knowing it and without losing it.

ego hybrid usb iphone case

The ego Hybrid USB Series 2-in-1 iPhone case has a slide-out USB flash drive that’s available in 4, 8, or 16GB sizes. It’s incorporated into the case itself, which is made out of matte gray resin that’s matched with pastel drive colors. It’s not a bad look, and the fact of the matter is that I’ve lost quite a few USB drives over the years, so this will keep one securely in a known place.

The ego Hybrid iPhone case starts out at $34.95 for the 4GB and goes up to $49.95 for the 16GB version. The only improvement I can think off is it would be great if your iPhone could connect via Bluetooth to the flash drive to transfer files.

Fujitsu announces Stylistic Q702 and LifeBook T902 laptops

Fujitsu has today unveiled two new laptops in its range. The first is a laptop and tablet hybrid dubbed the Stylistic Q702, while the second is a convertible laptop (remember those?) called the LifeBook T902. The Stylistic Q702 is constructed from a magnesium shell that weighs around 850 grams, doubling as a laptop when inserted into the keyboard dock which also provides extra battery life.

It’s on the large side at 11.6-inches, but features an LED backlit 1366×768 display and a Core i3 or i5 Ivy Bridge processor. 4GB of RAM comes as standard with the tablet, and you can configure the hard drive up to a 256GB SSD. Graphics are handled by the integrated Intel HD 4000 GPU, and there’s USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports as well as HDMI output and an SD card slot. Once you dock the tablet into the keyboard, you get an extra 4-cell battery as well as an Ethernet jack and VGA output.

The LifeBook T902, meanwhile, features a 13.3-inch 1600×900 display with Gorilla Glass. Inside is an Intel Ivy Bridge Core i5 or Core i7 processor, and up to 16GB of RAM. The default hard drive is a 320GB offering, although you can configure up to a 256GB SSD. The laptop includes two USB 3.0 ports and a single USB 2.0 port, HDMI output, VGA, Ethernet, an SD card slot, and the option for 3G or 4G connectivity depending on the market. A 1080p webcam can also be configured, with battery rated for around 7 hours and 40 minutes.

The Stylistic Q702 and LifeBook T902 should both be available sometime in the third quarter, with the Q702 starting from $1,099 and the T902 at $1,899. Both will be running Windows 7 when they ship, but can be upgraded to Windows 8 without any issues.

Motorola DEFY Pro heads to Brazil, offers tough and tactile Android action

Motorola DEFY Pro heads to Brazil, tough and tactile Android action

You got to give it to Motorola, it’s pretty specific with its handset releases. Today’s announcement? It’s the DEFY Pro doing the Samba towards Brazil. The “lifeproof” phone is designed to battle the elements (water, dust and carnival spirit,) and is the first touchscreen / QWERTY Android handset from the firm. There’s 2.7-inches of Gorilla Glassed screen to poke at, an SD card slot to upgrade the 2GB onboard memory (upto 32GB) plus GPS and WiFi (so you can find your way home with the morning after). How much for this party of a phone? We don’t know just yet, but the fun starts on July 15th, when it becomes available.

Update: Motorola reached out to us with some clarification on its claim of being the first touchscreen / QWERTY Android handset:

The release denotes that the DEFY Pro is our first life-proof device to feature both a QWERTY and touchscreen. Motorola’s life-proof devices are water resistant, scratch resistant and dust proof, ready to handle life’s daily challenges, indoors and out. Admiral and Titanium have similar features but are categorized slightly differently since they are iDEN-based products and have different mil-spec certification.

Mercedes reportedly scraps hybrid plan for B-Class E-Cell Plus EV, going all-in on electrons with Tesla

mercedes-no-hybrid-for-e-cell-plus-Tesla

Mercedes’ plans for a B-Class E-Cell Plus plug-in hybrid might headed for a change of direction. Take this all with a spoonful of NaCl, but looks like an all-electric powertrain made by none other than Tesla will be installed in the EV. As Autoblog Green notes, an anonymous spokesperson has reportedly claimed that the system switch-up is being made due to economics — higher rebates and incentives are possible for zero-emission vehicles in the EV’s US target market. No technical details were given on the new powertrain, but the original idea was to have a Volt-like 138-horsepower electric powerplant for the B-Class compact, with a 67-horsepower gas engine backing it up. At the very least, a collaboration between the two companies would make sense, since the Stuttgart automaker is effectively a five percent stakeholder in Tesla. So if you’ve been holding out for an EV with the Merc touch, check the source for the details.

Gigabyte launches Aivia Xenon dual-mode touchpad mouse

Gigabyte launches Aivia Xenon dual mode touchpad mouse

When our eyes first landed upon the device from Gigabyte you see above, it took them a few seconds to work out exactly what they were looking at. There’s a reason for that, though, as the Aivia Xenon — as it is known — lives a double life. By day, it’s an ordinary PC mouse, with support for multi-touch gestures. By night (well, and day too, if you choose) it’s a portable touchpad. The hybrid device offers 1000DPI resolution, can be used up to 10 meters away (for presentations etc.) and comes with software that lets you create custom gestures. If you have two birds, but only space for one stone, head down to the source link for more info.
