Samsung’s gifting British Galaxy Note 10.1 users with some new, free, S-Pen apps for when playing “Eat up Martha” in S-Note stops being fun. ZTE’s alleged ‘Blade III’ smartphone gets photographed ahead of official announcement

ZTE's alleged 'Blade III' smartphone gets photographed ahead of official announcement

Let’s be honest, ZTE isn’t exactly the best at keeping its upcoming devices secretly under wraps before eventually making them official — and, well, such is the case with the latest, unannounced Blade III. Finnish retailer Verkkokauppa’s currently listing ZTE’s purported Blade III as a 3.5-inch (800 x 480) slab that’s sporting Ice Cream Sandwich, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU (MSM7227A) and a 5-megapixel rear shooter. Still, as FoneArena points out, these alleged specs go against other rumors circulating around the web, which indicate the Blade III is boasting a 4-inch display rather than the smaller sized 3.5-incher listed on the Finnish site. Whatever it may be, let’s just hope ZTE’s next Android smartphone doesn’t come with any backdoor woes.

HTC Thunderbolt, Droid Incredible 2 go back to the future with leaked Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs

HTC Thunderbolt, Incredible 2 go back to the future with leaked Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs

Looks like some HTC oldies are in store for Android OS goodies — unofficially. Though Verizon’s yet to publicly confirm availability, it does appear Droid Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt owners (like this sorry bastard) are in store for a very real Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. Two deodexed ROMs based on purported stock 4.0.4 builds have recently hit the forums treating eager and, in the case of that latter LTE handset, beleaguered users to a host of performance tweaks, as well as that Sense 3.6 skin. It should go without saying that you’ll need to be rooted to flash either leak and, as always, the usual warnings apply: backup first and proceed at your own risk. That said, consider this your ticket past the Big Red tape.

Xiaomi Phone 1S ships August 23rd with avalanche of backorders

Xiaomi Phone 1S hands-on

You know you’re doing well when even your warmed-up, older smartphone is triggering queues before it’s on sale. Xiaomi has just promised that the Phone 1S will reach the market on August 23rd, but with 200,000 units to share — a slight shortfall when there are 1.3 million reserved phones. The company hasn’t said how quickly it will catch up to the backlog for its revived Android flagship. We hope it’s soon; it wouldn’t do to have customers still waiting for the 1S by the time the Phone 2 rolls around in October, after all. We’d say it’s a nice problem to have, and it bodes well for sales of the true sequel.

Boost Mobile announces Samsung Galaxy Rush with Android 40, available late September for $150

Boost Mobile is in New York City today to take the wraps off of its new fall lineup, and in addition to the Galaxy S II 4G, it’ll be joined by the Samsung Galaxy Rush, a small (but slightly souped-up) smartphone that sports Android 4.0. Noteworthy specs include a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, 768MB of RAM, a 3.5-inch HVGA touchscreen and a 3-megapixel camera. While built-in storage is limited to just 2GB, users will find a microSD slot for expansion. The phone also sports a rather healthy battery, which weighs in at 1,750mAh. According to Boost, the Samsung Galaxy Rush will hit stores in late September for $150.

Additionally, Boost Mobile is also unveiling the Samsung Array, a feature phone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. You’ll see it hit stores on September 4th for $60, and you can sneak a peek of it after the break.

HTC One V makes the leap to Cricket’s lineup September 2nd for $270

HTC One V makes the leap to Cricket's lineup September 2nd for $270

The One line hasn’t seen much carrier love lately, but that’s all set to change next month. Beginning September 2nd, the littlest member of that smartphone troupe — the One V — will be hitting Cricket’s lineup at $270, no contract necessary, and notching two milestones in the process. Aside from offering subscribers a belated first taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, the Sense-skinned 3.7-incher’s release also counts as HTC’s official hardware debut on the network. In case you’ve forgotten and need a bit of a spec refresher, the odd-lipped Legend throwback bucks the de rigeur multi-core trend for a single 1GHz Snapdragon S3 CPU running Android 4.0, a 5-megapixel rear camera powered by ImageSense tech and, for better or worse, features Beats Audio integration. It’s no heavyweight as current smartphones go, but if you’re keen to push things forward, this lil’ fella packs a considerable punch. Check out the company’s official presser after the break.

Archos 101 XS review: a tablet that puts the keyboard center stage

Archos 101 XS review a tablet that puts the keyboard center stage

Archos has had its hand in the slate game since the early days of “internet media tablets,” and while its products don’t have quite the same brand recognition as, say, Samsung’s, we’ve found the French company’s devices to be some of the best-value tablets available. Budget-minded prices and innovation don’t usually go hand in hand, but in the case of its new 101 XS Android 4.0 tablet, Archos has a few tricks up its sleeve. The slate boasts a keyboard cover and kickstand, along with a magnetic hinge allowing the lid to attach to the display. Arriving in November for $400, the Archos 101 XS is a productivity-minded take on slates, complete with a full set of keys and a bundled copy of OfficeSuite Pro. Do the hardware and software add up to a killer combo? Read on to find out.
