Sony reveals XPERIA lineup with James Bond in tow

Four XPERIA devices were revealed this week by Sony in quick succession – an XPERIA Tablet S and three smartphone XPERIA V and J, with the hero T appearing in no less than Skyfall. This week Sony’s IFA 2012 press conference began with Kazuo Hirai speaking on how Sony aims to “Inspire and Fulfill” consumers around the world – moving people emotionally as they do so. This event also had Sony’s European President in attendance – with a broken leg, perfect for the phrase “break a leg” for good luck. Hirai continued speaking on how Sony would be working on pushing forward mobile and gaming – and the two together at once, as well.

XPERIA T is a smartphone that brings a 4.6 inch display connected to a 16 megapixel camera with an instant sleep to snap functionality. This device is connected to a one-touch function that works with NFC to enable connections in a moment. This device will also be working with Music Unlimited with a 60 day free trial. This device will also be coming with a new service called “Access” with Music Unlimited for your music anywhere.

The Sony XPERIA V and J will be popping up with slightly less-fabulous specifications at smaller prices later this year as well. And the best item of all: entertainment inclusion. The brand new action movie Skyfall will be popping up – James Bond, specifically – with the Sony XPERIA T in his hand. Have a peek at our Sony portal and check out the rest of our IFA 2012 action all week.

Sony Xperia T flagship unveiled at IFA 2012: offers 4.6-inch HD display, 13MP camera and NFC

Sony Xperia T unveiled at IFA 2012

The Xperia T, formerly codenamed Mint, rumor and leak victim since January, has officially broken cover. Revealing its 4.55-inch face to the crowds in Berlin, the Reality Display packs a 1,280 x 720 resolution and offers what Sony is calling the “best HD experience on a phone to date.” The company claims you can view vids in full 1080p HD quality, though we’re still waiting to receive additional clarification on this statement. The Xperia T runs on Ice Cream Sandwich, but we’re told it will be upgraded to Jelly Bean shortly after launch. It also features a 13MP fast capture camera (with a camcorder capable of 1080p video capture) and boasts a feature Sony is calling Sleep to Snap, which means you can go from a black screen to taking photos in an instant. What else does this new flagship offer? A one-touch function with NFC which you can use to tap to connect to other Sony devices, a 60-day premium trial of Music Unlimited and a new tier called Access which will be available in Europe for 0.99 Euros per month and will deliver full access of the service to PCs and the PS3.

The T — which will be known as the TX in select markets, and should be launching globally over the next few weeks — also sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8260A Snapdragon S4 CPU, pentaband UMTS / HSPA+ radios, a front-facing cam with 720p video capture, MHL connectivity, FM radio, 16GB onboard storage and an 1,850mAh battery. Dimension-wise, the T will weigh 4.9 ounces (139g) and come in at 9.35mm thick. Lastly, the new Xperia flagship will be available in black, silver and white hues (while the TX appears to come in pink as well). Pricing is still an unknown, but as we’ve seen before, it may largely depend on the market anyway. We’ll keep you posted as more details come in.

ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H Monitors revealed

The folks at ASUS have brought on a couple new monitors for the IFA 2012 crowd, both of them inspired by sundials and made with matte anti-glare IPS technology for fabulous visuals. The ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H Monitors revealed today work with LED backlighting as well and both have massive 178 degree viewing angles with super slim profiles at 14.5mm and 17.5mm on the MX239H and the MX279H respectively. The smaller model has a 23-inch screen size while the larger has 27-inches to its name.

Both monitors have lovely edge-to-edge bezel-free screens so you can appreciate the entirety of your picture with no distracting borders. With the sundial-inspired design of both monitors, you’ll have the least amount of space taken up with the most dedicated to the display itself. The picture you’ll be working with is backed up by full HD visuals with no less than dual-HDMI inputs on both models.

Both models also have ASUS SonicMaster technology for great audio quality as well. Co-developed with none other than Bang & Olufsen ICEpower audio, you’ll be rolling out with undeniably fabulous audio popping out straight from the monitor itself. You’ll find that both monitors have lovely simple black backs with a Y-shape down toward the imputs they both share, and both units also have a simple set of controls on a silver base sitting under the display.

These units do not yet have release dates or prices at the moment – they along with a whole lot more have been revealed at IFA 2012, and we’re live in effect all week long in Berlin to bring you the action: stay tuned!

ASUS Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT bring Windows 8 to Transformer universe

It’s time for the fabulous shape and style of the ASUS Transformer tablet line to work with Microsoft for Windows 8 glory with the ASUS Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT. This set of devices looks rather similar to the ASUS Transformer Prime, but with a bit of an updated set of specifications and Windows 8 or Windows RT under the hood. With the Vivo Tab we’ve got an 11.6-inch IPS display with 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution and an Intel Atom CPU inside. The Vivo Tab RT is just a bit smaller and makes the case with a Tegra 3 quad-core processor for mobile glory.

With the Vivo Tab you’ll be working with a 0.33-inch thickness – that’s without the dock. There’s an 8 megapixel camera on the back of the tablet piece with autofocus and LED flash, and there’s a 2 megapixel camera on the front. Inside you’ve got an Intel Atom CPU paired with 2GB of RAM. There’s also 64GB of storage built-in here and the device is coming stocked with NFC abilities as well. This tablet works with 10-point multitouch on its lovely 11.6-inch display, and it’ll support a Wacom digitizer input as well.

The Vivo Tab RT is of course running Windows RT rather than the Vivo Tab’s Windows 8. The Vivo Tab RT is coming with a 10.1-inch IPS display with 1,366 x 768 resolution. Inside you’ve got the lovely NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor with 12 GPU cores for graphic excellence, and you’ll be working with 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage. Just like the Vivo Tab, the Vivo Tab RT has NFC capabilities as well.

The docking keyboard you’ll be working with in both units is unique to the unit and will be coming with a full QWERTY set of keys, trackpad, 2 USB ports, and more battery power than you’ll know what to do with. Pricing and availability on both units is not yet known – stay tuned for more ASUS action this week at IFA 2012!

ASUS Designo MX279H and MX239H monitors are slim, inspired by sundials

We’d wager that “inspired by sundials” isn’t a phrase you expected to hear at this year’s IFA, but there it is, in the press release for a pair of new monitors from ASUS. The Designo MX279H and MX239H have edge-to-edge screens, largely free of worrisome bezels and slim profiles at 14.5- and 17.5 millimeters, respectively. The displays are matte IPS, which offer up a 178-degree viewing angle, according to the company. And the stands — they’ve got “sundial” written all over them. Peep the press release after the break.

Netgear N750 wireless router and N900 video and gaming Wi-Fi adapter debuts

Netgear is on hand at IFA in Berlin this week, and the company has unveiled several new and interesting products. I already mentioned the new Powerline Music Extender that allows you to share audio and USB devices around the home via your power lines. Netgear also unveiled a new N750 wireless dual band and a new N900 video and gaming four-port Wi-Fi adapter.

The N750 offers 750 Mbps speeds for streaming HD video around the home and to support multiple player gaming. The fast data transfer speeds also make it much easier and quicker to transfer large files around the home network. The router also supports Netgear ReadyShare Cloud allowing you to access files at home via smartphones, tablets, or your PC wherever you may be.

The feature also allows users to drag-and-drop files and folders without using file sharing sites or having to upload files. The router is compatible with Apple Time Machine for automatic wireless backups to connected USB hard drives for Mac users. The other new device is the N900 video and gaming four-port Wi-Fi adapter.

This adapter can connect as many as four devices such as smart TVs, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and other devices to a wireless network at 450 Mbps speeds. When utilizing the adapter on a network that features a router supporting dual bands, the N900 will also support 5 GHz performance. The device allows users to wirelessly stream multiple 1080p HD videos in the home at the same time. The adapter is also optimized for buffer and glitch free HD streaming from online sites such as Netflix.
