What is this? A pint of dragon fire ice cream? An alien planet model? Speckled clay? Amazingly, it’s the cross section of a golf ball. Photographer James Friedman captured the innards of different golf balls and unexpectedly revealed a core that look more like they’re from outer space than anything in this world.

In about a billion years the Sun will be too hot and bright for water to exist on Earth. We will probably mosey on at that point or perish. But if we’re still alive and somewhere in the neighborhood when the Sun runs out of hydrogen and becomes a red giant we can observe it looking something like this.

NASA and Aerojet Rocketdyne tested their first 3D-printed rocket engine injector today. What you see above is the little guy passing the test with flying—and flaming—colors. Success is a beautiful thing.
