Vibease Appears As Indiegogo Project

Sex sells, that goes without saying, but whether you do so in a tasteful manner or not is another question altogether. Vibease happens to be the world’s first ‘wearable smart vibrator’ that has just launched on Indiegogo in order to gain enough funding from the general public and hopefully, the faith that the public shows in the idea will be translated to enough money collected so that this hands-free Bluetooth-enabled vibrator will become a reality. What makes the Vibease so special is this – it will synchronize with an Android or iOS Fantasy app, where all you need to do is pick an audio fantasy track on the app, and the vibrator will move accordingly.

For instance, the Vibease will create sensations at different intensities or patterns, depending on the current fantasy that is being played back. Should the voice in the audio track say sultrily, “I’m touching you softly,” the vibration will end up at a soft intensity, but should it say, “I’m touching you hard,” the vibrations will increase in intensity accordingly. Rydon Pixio: Solar Powered Bike Light Never Needs Batteries

There’s nothing more annoying than having your bicycle light give out in the middle of a night ride. It can also get dangerous. That’s why I think that a light that can be recharged using solar energy is a good idea, so you won’t have to remember to change batteries and get caught in the dark.

The Rydon Pixio bicycle light can hold enough juice for 75 hours of light on a charge. It takes only 5 days of sunlight exposure to fully charge it, so riding during the daytime should get you all charged up for nighttime rides.

The Rydon Pixio was launched through an Indiegogo crowdfunding project. You’ll have to pledge €30 (~$40USD) to get yours, though with the campaign ending at midnight tonight, it’s still only reached about 75% of its goal.

Kite Mosquito Patch

Kite Mosquito PatchI know that there is this thing known as nicotine patches, but an anti-mosquito patch? Now that is certainly an idea which is worth looking into, especially for those of us out there who love the great outdoors, and yet seem to attract them pesky mozzies far easier than the rest of the family. Well, the Kite Mosquito patch, currently an Indiegogo project that has long surpassed its goal (and is in its new stretch goal phase now), is touted to be the world’s first product that comprises of non-toxic compounds which have been proven to disrupt the mosquito’s ability to track humans. These non-toxic compounds are safe for us to come into contact with (unlike the aftereffects of a 3D printer, eh?), while functioning as a non-topical, spatial repellent that will block mosquitoes’ ability to detect carbon dioxide.

The first run of Kite Patches will be tested in Uganda before it is optimized for production and released globally. Backers from the US will be the first to receive these Kite Patches right after U.S. EPA approval is gained.

Citizen plans crowdfunded takeover of Canadian carrier, raises a couple hundred

Citizen plans crowdfunded takeover of Canadian carrier, raises a couple hundred

You’d think a carrier takeover funded by the proletariat would have to be hostile, right? Heck, no. Canadian Valya Michael loves Mobilicity, all the way from its headquarters down to its little cell towers, and he fears a serious loss of commercial competition if the embattled company should fail. So he’s started a $400,000,000 campaign (in the northern currency, that is) to buy it out, clear its debts and invest in better coverage and customer service. We have no idea what Indiegogo, Mobilicity or the telecoms regulator will do if the funding target is achieved, but they all have plenty of time to draft a response seeing as the current total stands at $213. Meanwhile, the fate of that other big Indiegogo project seems almost as uncertain.

HTC One’s MoDaCo Switch Could Arrive On Galaxy S4

HTC Ones MoDaCo Switch Could Arrive On Galaxy S4Earlier this month, we did take a look at the MoDaCo Switch for the HTC One, where it enables one to run not only HTC’s very own Sense user interface which runs on top of Google’s Android operating system, but also paves the way for HTC One owners to enjoy a true blue Google experience. Well, there are whispers of the Samsung Galaxy S4 picking up the MoDaCo Switch as well, and since there is quite a number of Galaxy S4 variants around, the particular unit which we are referring to would be the GT-i9505.

A funding campaign for the Galaxy S4 MoDaCo Switch has already kicked off over at Indiegogo, with hopes to ultimately raise £1,000. This is not a far fetched goal, as to date, £770 has already been pledged. Once it is complete, Samsung Galaxy S4 owners too, will be able to sit smugly next to their friends who have a HTC One, where one is able to make the jump from the TouchWiz interface to stock Android in a jiffy. It is said that a £3 pledge will provide you with early access to the MoDaCo Switch on your Galaxy S4, and should you be feeling a wee bit more generous, you can even drop £3,000 which has been described as “the full monty option”. One of the perks of dropping such a serious amount of coin would allow you to have dinner with the whole team in London, where you will also be on the receiving end of a Samsung Galaxy S4 that has MoDaCo Switch installed already. Kite Patch Keeps Mosquitoes (and the Diseases They Carry) Away

Those evil mosquitoes just keep on biting. They’re carriers of deadly diseases like dengue fever and malaria and every day, kids get bites that could turn out to be fatal. There are a lot of anti-mosquito and anti-insect lotions and sprays being sold, but they’re a cause for concern sometimes to parents who worry about slathering their kids in repellents that contain DEET.

Then along came Kite. Kite is a patch that is supposed to be stuck on the person’s clothing. Once it’s there, it can make the wearer “invisible” to mosquitoes for up to 48 hours. Unlike most conventional mosquito repellants, Kite uses non-toxic compounds that interrupt the mosquito’s ability to find people through carbon dioxide detection.

The technology was developed by Olfactor Laboratories and the University of California with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.

A project to send Kite patches to Uganda is currently up for funding on Indiegogo, and has already generated more than 3.5 times its goal with over a month left to raise funds.

Canary Shatters Its Indiegogo Funding Goal For Its Smart, Dead-Simple Home Monitors

canary

There are some 90 million homes in the U.S. without any security system whatsoever. Many of them are renters who don’t want to invest heavily in a place they don’t own, among hundreds of thousands of home owners who are simply priced out. There has never been a convenient, all-in-one system that could offer home security at an affordable rate, much less one you could pick up at the local Best Buy.

But that all changes with Canary, the latest crowd-funding sensation to hit Indiegogo. We caught up with NYC-based founder Adam Sager to discuss the project.

Canary is a little console, slightly smaller than the size of a paper towel roll, that’s packed with a host of sensors, a mic, and an HD camera.

For $200 down, this little guy will connect to the Wifi, sync with your phone, and constantly watch your home. I say watch, and not monitor, because Canary can only see as far as its sensors will allow, whereas most home security systems are wired in to monitor every crack and crevice of a home. Canary can only hear as far as the mic allows, or the camera sees, or the sensors can sense.

However, Sager believes that when you place the Canary in the central part of your home, near the front door perhaps or watching over the living room, that a real threat, like a burglar, will likely set off the Canary no matter where it enters from.

Plus, if you have a larger space or want added security, you can always link more than one Canary (up to four, Sager tells me).

Canary’s sensors include night vision, motion detection, temperature, air quality and humidity, along with a live feed to the HD camera at any given time. The phone will instantly alert the user whenever the home experiences a random change, like a temperature fluctuation or sudden movement.

But Canary is also smart enough to learn your home, sensing the difference between a burglary and a pet. It even understands when regularly scheduled events occur, like the arrival of a nanny or a dog walker at the same time each day, so that you don’t have a panic attack each time Rover needs to take a wizz.

Canary’s distribution model is different from any other home security system in that you will eventually be able to go pick one up at a local electronics store on the cheap. This has never really been available before, and the potential market is huge with 90 million homes completely unprotected and priced out of the alternatives.

Sager admits that margins on the hardware itself won’t be that high, but the plan is to offer value-added services like monitoring (delivered by a TBD third-party) for $10/month.

Canary has been on Indiegogo for four days, and has blown far beyond its $100k goal to be at $550k at the time of writing. It only took a few hours to reach $100k, according to Sager.

If you’d like to back the project, head on over to the Canary website or check out the Indiegogo campaign.

Ubuntu Edge pricing drops to $625 minimum on Indiegogo after initial sellout

Ubuntu drops Edge pricing to $625 minimum on Indiegogo after initial sellout

So far, it seems that Canonical’s $32 million Ubuntu Edge smartphone Indiegogo campaign has been a roaring success, having raised over $3.5 million in about 40 hours. But after selling out all 5,000 units in the lowest $600 pricing tier, Canonical has added three new pledge levels. Initially, those who missed out on the one-day-only offer would’ve needed to cough up $830, but there are now $625, $675 and $725 rungs prior to that price, each with 1,250 of the linux-coated handsets available. Meanwhile, the counter at the original $830 second level — which had already been in the hundreds — has been reset, with all those buyers dropped to the new $625 tier. Canonical promised it would “refund the difference (to those buyers) at the end of the campaign,” adding it would contact each with more info. After setting an Indiegogo record by raising $2 million in about 8 hours, the fundraising inevitably slowed down, and the revised price tiers could be a response to that — either way, there’s still a steep climb to the gargantuan target.
