Oh man oh man oh man oh man. This is the nerdiest, awesomest, best-best way to use Instagram. Some nerd has taken it upon himself to film the entirety of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 15 seconds at a time, on Instagram Video.
To everyone shooting Instagram videos right now, just give up. No one cares about your 15 second selfie or crappy first video test. It’s never going to be as good as your pictures. But you should also give up because these guys used 1,600 different Instagram pictures to stitch together a wonderful stop motion Instagram video that kills every Instavideo dead.
An Instagram photo carries a certain artificial heft to it. There’s a sense of importance, or at least permanence, to the photos we post to these accounts that you don’t get from tweets or even status updates on Facebook. Instagram isn’t naturally this way; it’s developed this weight because everything on Instagram is beautiful. And with the addition of video, we’ve got a wonderful opportunity to make the platform more interesting—but we have to be careful.
