Snooze’s Big Snooze Bar Lets You Shut Your Alarm Off with Satisfaction

You might not be a morning person, but you can’t escape the fact that your job begins at seven-thirty in the morning. Rather than be a grouch about it, why not take out your frustrations on your alarm clock instead? If you’re thinking about doing that, then I’ve got just the alarm for you.

SnoozeAppropriately called the Snooze, this alarm clock has probably got the largest snooze button I’ve ever seen. It works with your iPhone 4 or 4S, so this is only for grouches who own either one of these devices. It also doubles as a dock for your phone, so you can charge it overnight while using it as an alarm clock.

Snooze Kickstarter

No worries about slamming the snooze button on this thing, because it’s made of rubber so it just flexes when you hit it.

For updates on the Snooze or to buy one, check it out over on Kickstarter. A minimum pledge of $40 will get you a basic wooden Snooze (use your own cable), $55 gets you one with a red dock cable, and the fancy aluminum versions are available for $99.

Sensordrone Gives Your Smartphone the Sixth Sense to Do Amazing Stuff

Imagine how much easier life would be if we had sensors on all of our stuff. You could just raise your hand and the lights would go off, clap your hands to turn the TV on and off, and snap your fingers to run a bath.

But let’s start small, get real, and focus on smartphones instead, because a new technology is coming that will equip it with a sensor of its own: the Sensordrone.

Sensordrone

It’s basically a teensy-sized sensor that fits on your keychain so you can use it to add a wealth of uses for your smartphone. There are a lot of apps out there that need a decent sensor to function, and if you’ve been looking for one–then you’ve just hit the motherload.

Sensordrone1

With Sensordrone, you can run apps that detect gas leaks, measure light intensity, carbon monoxide levels, humidity levels, temperatures, capacitance, and so much more.

It’s currently up for backing on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $175(USD) will get you your very own Sensordrone.

Ben and Jerrys Pint Lock1

You can also use it to help you along with your diet. Just ask your kid or significant other to set a random code and keep it from you so you can’t get any ice cream unmonitored.

IdeaPaint Transforms Any Surface into an Erasable Board

My sisters and I used to draw on any and every surface we found, much to the dismay of our parents. Some of our walls still bear evidence of our creativity, since no amount of soap or scrubbing could completely erase the marks we made.

One thing that will save your walls and keep the creativity flowing is IdeaPaint. It’s available as an opaque or clear coating that will add dry erase functionality to any surface. Paint it on your walls, on your desks, on chairs, and any other surface where you want to write, doodle, or draw to your heart’s content.

It’s virtually odorless, too, so you don’t have to worry about airing rooms out after painting over your stuff.

IdeaPaint1

A basic IdeaPaint CLEAR kit retails for $225(USD) and contains everything you need to start transforming up to 50 square feet of stuff into dry-erase surfaces, including a roller, stir stick, can opener, and wet paint sign.

Shimi Music Robot is Ready to Rock Your World

I’m not a huge fan of desktop toys that flap around and play music, as they tend to get on my nerves quickly. I blame Big Mouth Billy Bass for this. But I’m actually kind of enamored of this new robot which can dance and get its groove on to your music.

shimi

Tovbot’s Shimi works as a dock for your Android- or iOS-powered smartphone, providing interactivity, ranging from the aforementioned music-groovin’ to interacting with passersby. For instance, it can recognize faces and words, or pick a song to play based on the tune your tap out for it. Here’s some footage of Shimi getting his groove on:

I particularly like how Shimi’s ears are actually the speakers – I think that’s a clever and endearing design touch. At this point, Shimi is still in the development stages, but will retail for $199 (USD) when its released sometime in the not-too-distant future.

PS Vita YouTube Application Now Available for Download

There comes a time when gamers get sick of playing games and need to take a break, right? For some of you, taking a break means getting up to go pee, while for others, a break means watching some videos online. If you own a PS Vita, a new app is available for the portable game console that will allow you to watch YouTube videos on the go.

youtube vita

The official YouTube app for PS Vita is now available, and it takes advantage of both the Vita’s high-definition capability and the 3G connectivity some the consoles offer. If you have the 3G version of the Vita, you can watch videos at home or on the go using the mobile connectivity. The app supports recommended videos, search, storage or viewing history, and allows you to add favorites.

The videos will be offered in two viewing modes including full screen and small screen. In full-screen mode a control panel will be displayed on the screen to allow you to expand or minimize videos. Video resolution of up to 720p is supported and the videos can be viewed in HD or SD mode.

iPad Controls LED Wall Art

Sure, you can put some art on your wall, but how about putting up some LED wall art that’s controlled via your iPad? That’s exactly what Greg Friedland did and I have to say that the results are pretty cool. It’s definitely a nice way of filling up an empty wall in an apartment.

greg friedland aurora led wall art

Greg Friedland’s Aurora LED wall started out as an idea to put some art on a 6′×12′ wall in his living room. He created a grid of 544 LEDs that’s capable of 16 million colors, attached to a 4′×8′ wood board. The LEDs are controlled by a microcontroller, which in turn is controlled by a program running on a laptop. This software on his PC connects to an iPad, which allows interaction with the moving patterns. That seems like a lot of steps but I guess there’s no good way to control it directly from the iPad yet. There are also built-in modes that respond to music.

It’s something that I wouldn’t mind having on my empty living room wall. To find out how to make yours, check out Greg’s instructions here.

Snap Clap App: Clap Your Hands, Say Cheese!

There must be a better way to take pictures of yourself without having to painstakingly set up the timer and running all the way to join the others who are already posing for the picture. It’s pretty clear who’s in charge of setting up the timer by just looking at the photo: just pick out the guy or girl with the haphazard hair and frazzled expression.

There are triggers and remotes for this kind of thing, of course. But if you can’t be bothered with that and don’t mind clapping to show the world you’re happy (and that you’re eager for a picture), then you can get the Snap Clap app for iOS devices instead.

Snap Clap

It’s basically a simplistic trigger app that snaps a picture – every time you clap your hands. Now you’d probably have to worry about you clapping your hands in the photos, but that’s better than looking all haggard and unkempt, right?

Snap Clap1

The cool thing is that the app also has some post-processing tools up its sleeve, such as filters that you can apply to change the look and feel of your photos. Snap Clap can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store for $0.99 (USD).

Google Chrome and LEGO Team up to Build with Virtual Bricks

We’ve established very well over the years that geeks love LEGO. The problem with LEGO bricks and me is that I never put them away and they always end up getting sucked into the vacuum cleaner or poking a hole in my foot in the middle of night. What I need is access to is this new 8 trillion LEGO brick set that you can play with virtually using Google Chrome.

lego build chrome

Google has partnered with LEGO Australia on a project called Build. The partnership kicks off in Australia, but a rollout to the United States and the UK among other countries a later date. To start with, you to pick a location from the LEGO map of Australia and build your own virtual brick construct to place on any street you want or any landmark you want.

Before your construction goes live for other people to view, it has to be submitted to LEGO for approval. The approval process is to ensure no one builds questionable objects that would be inappropriate for children – or for life in general. The good news is that anyone can play with Build, it’s not limited to use by Australian users at this point. You can check it out here.
