Control Center’s quick access to regularly used settings in iOS 7 is great. Until you inadvertently pull it up while using another app. Here’s how to shut down the up-swipe drawer before it gets in the way.

Last week, Business Week ran a fairly boring interview with Tim Cook, Jonathan Ive and Craig Federighi. Now, though, it’s released a longer interview with just Ive and Federighi, which is kinda interesting. Here are some of the highlights.

iOS 7 Sees 52% Adoption Rate A Week After Launch

iOS 7 Sees 52% Adoption Rate A Week After LaunchUnlike Android where users will have to wait for manufacturers to get the update, modify it to fit their devices, and roll them out, and in some cases go through carrier certification and testing first, iOS users will be able to pull the update from Apple’s servers regardless of which iOS device they are using (some features could be disabled on older models), which is why it is not surprising to find that as it stands, iOS 7 has been found to have been installed on 52% of iOS devices about a week after its launch.

This is according to Chitika who based the numbers on the iOS devices that make its way onto its advertising network. Based on the graph pictured above, it shows that iOS 7 has enjoyed a pretty steady adoption rate and was adopted slightly faster compared to iOS 6. We imagine that this could be due to the massive redesign of the operating system which gave it a new look and feel, as well as introduce a host of new features which many iOS users have been asking for over the years. We doubt we will see iOS 7 hit a 100% adoption rate since there are older iOS models out there that won’t play nice with the update, not to mention there will be users who actually dislike the new look, with some complaining of motion sickness, forcing them to downgrade to iOS 6.

iOS 7 Reportedly Causing Motion Sickness For Some Users

iOS 7 Reportedly Causing Motion Sickness For Some UsersWith the introduction of iOS 7, Apple brought a host of new features to the operating system complete with a new look and animation effects, such as the parallax effect which gave off the illusion that the icons were floating, along with the different zooming animations when opening folders or launching apps. It certainly looks pretty but apparently it’s been causing some iOS users motion sickness in the process. There is a forum thread on Apple’s website where there are a handful of users complaining about the effects and how it gives them motion sickness, with one describing the effect as, “It’s exactly how I used to get car sick if I tried to read in the car.”

There is an option in the Settings that allows users to turn off the parallax effect but as for the zooming effects, there’s not much that can be done. Some are reporting nausea so severe that they had to take a sick day and go home from work due to it. The only way to “cure” this ailment is to downgrade to iOS 6 which definitely does not seem like a permanent solution. We’re not sure if this is an exaggerated situation but any of our readers experience motion sickness while using iOS 7?

Set up a 3rd-gen Apple TV with a tap from your iOS 7 device

Have a third-gen Apple TV and an iDevice running iOS 7? If you’ve yet to set up Cupertino’s set-top box, you can do so now by simply touching your iPhone or iPad to the Apple TV. Okay, Apple’s take on Bump requires a few more steps than that; you’ll first need to enable Bluetooth on your iOS 7 device, then connect to the WiFi network you’ll use with the Apple TV. (Your machine also needs Apple TV software 6.0 or later.) Still, it sure beats the labor-intensive process of selecting letters on-screen with the included remote. Once you’ve tapped your iPhone to the set-top box, prompts should appear on both the phone and the TV screen, and you’re good to go. Give it a whirl for yourself — Apple’s directions are available via the first source link below.

Instagram For iOS 7 Available Now

Instagram For iOS 7 Available Now

Soon after Apple released iOS 7 on September 18th, developers started updating their apps to bring the look and feel in line with the company’s new update. A number of major apps were immediately updated, including Facebook. A few days down the road, Instagram for iOS 7 has been released. The team behind it has rebuilt the look and feel of Instagram to focus on clarity, which is what iOS 7 is focused on with its “flat” user interface. The size of photos and videos in the feed has been increased. What this means is that content will now expand to fit the edges of the screen. Increased size also means increased resolution, so photos and videos will now be clearer and more vibrant.

Grid view has been streamlined so that content appears larger. Keeping up with iOS 7′s conventions, they’ve also made profile pictures circular. Regarding this update, which brings the version number up to 4.2, Instagram notes on its blog that the focus was kept on clarity so as to keep the feel of the app “clean, simple and grounded.” Despite the fact that the app has a new look, the app icon has not been changed. Instagram for iOS 7 is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store.

iPhone 5C Review: A Fresh Coat of Paint Only Goes So Far

iPhone 5C Review: A Fresh Coat of Paint Only Goes So Far

In a way, we already reviewed this phone a year ago. In fact, iPhone 5C is in every important way the iPhone 5 in different clothing. That’s not to say it’s bad phone. In fact, after spending a weekend with the iPhone 5C, I can say with certainty it’s a very good phone, in the same way that last night’s meatloaf is still very good meatloaf. But it’s not exactly fresh.

Bogus Ad Claims iOS 7 Makes Your iPhone Waterproof

Bogus Ad Claims iOS 7 Makes Your iPhone WaterproofIs a fool born every single minute? Perhaps, as here we are with word that there has been a bogus iPhone ad which has apparently convinced the more gullible folks out there that installing the latest iOS 7 on your iPhone would be able to turn that Apple smartphone into a waterproof device. Needless to say, this particular ad has managed to make its way to different social media sites, where it has been mocked up in a style that is not too different from the one which Apple normally falls back upon.

In the ad, it reads, “In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone’s power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone’s delicate circuitry.” Apart from that, this particular ad also claims that the update to iOS 7 would enable allows the iPhone “to instantly detect sudden changes in thermodistribution.” I suppose this is always good for a laugh, but what happens when you have actual iPhone owners who do not know any better and decide to show off their new “waterproof” iPhones to family and friends? Hopefully no iPhones have already slept with the fishes from the time of the bogus ad’s appearance until now.
