Velocomp’s iBike Powerhouse, the cycling computer that integrates with your wheels to bring you workouts such as the descriptively named Brazilian Butt, is finally ready to ship. Introduced back in January, the Powerhouse works with an app for the iPhone or iPod touch (hence the iMoniker) to measure your pedal rates and other health stats, with preset workouts guiding you through 45- to 90-minute rides targeted toward your fitness level. The regimens also include tips and video demos from cycling pro Hunter Allen.
The $279 package, available through the iBike site, includes a case for the iPhone or iPod touch, the Powerhouse computer itself, the app, a wireless speed sensor and a handle bar mounting system. Though the system comes with two pre-loaded workouts, you can buy more for $9.99 a pop through the iOS app. Head on down to the PR for more info.

The existing Wikipedia app is fine, but there’s nothing particularly special about it. Sure it’s touch-friendly, and the interface is clean, but that’s about all it has to offer. Wikiweb, however, puts the millions upon millions of articles on the online encyclopedia into a larger perspective, by showing how they all relate to one another. More »
Facebook’s iOS app has some nice features but it’s painfully, neck-stiffening slow. It won’t be for long though. The NY Times reports that next month, Facebook will release an update that’ll completely overhaul the app to make it blazing fast. More »
I’m so guilty of forgetting about podcasts. Though I’m subscribed to several, they tend to get lost in the chaos of iTunes, Spotify, Hulu, Netflix, and all the other places I’m turning to for media. Google just updated the Gmail iOS app, adding improvements that might encourage people to, you know, actually use it. The most important upgrade is support for Notification Center, which means you can now configure the app to show you alerts with message previews. For everyone who’s annoyed by needing to login into Gmail every single time you open it because your session has expired, the updated Gmail now has persistent login. Unfortunately, Gmail for iOS is still basically just a webapp, which means that offline access is still barely there. Little by little, though, it seems Gmail is heading in the right direction.
