We’re just a little over 24 hours until Apple takes the stage for their “a lot to cover” event, where many people are expecting the company to announce a new iPad or two. As you’d expect with 24 hours left until a big Apple announcement, rumors have been circulating at an increased rate. We recently saw images of what looked to be the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 covered in gold, and we heard last week Apple might be unveiling a new smart cover for the iPad 5. With the iPhone 5s, Apple offered the gold color as an option for the very first time. Demand for this particular color has apparently been quite high, with Apple even reportedly ramping up production of the gold iPhone 5s. The question everyone had in their minds after the iPhone was announced was that if the company will offered gold as a color option for its next generation iPads. Apple hasn’t officially confirmed this as yet, but purported rear casings of the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 decked in gold have leaked.

We’ve seen no shortage of rumors about the next generation iPad mini having a Retina display. This possibility has been rumored time and time again over the last few months, but nothing is known for sure as yet because Apple hasn’t confirmed anything. All we have to go on is a bunch of rumors and speculation. The latest round of speculation suggests that the upcoming iPad mini will be a bit thicker than its predecessor due to the fact that it has a bigger battery, which will provide adequate juice for the Retina display.
Macotakara, a Japanese website, interviewed iPad case makers at the China Sourcing Fair 2013 in Hong Kong. Case makers present at the trade show offer this bit of speculation, that the next iPad mini will be 7.5 millimeters thick, up from 7.2 millimeters on the existing iPad. The new iPad mini is also expected to gain 0.2 millimeters in width. Cases for the upcoming tablet also include a cut out for the rear microphone, though its not unusual for case makers to create their products prior to the official announcement of a device, so information coming from them should be taken with a grain of salt. Apple is expected to unveil the iPad mini with Retina display alongside the iPad 5 on October 22nd.

The possibility of the next generation iPad mini having a Retina display has been discussed, affirmed and refuted multiple times over the past couple of months. We’ve seen different analysts, news outlets and unofficial sources voicing their own opinions, yet no one knows for sure if Apple is really going to unveil a Retina iPad mini at its iPad event on October 22nd. Apple actually hasn’t even confirmed its iPad event, it is just rumored to make the announcements on the aforementioned date. No invitations have been rolled out yet, no confirmations have been made so far.
In a note to investors today, analyst Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald predicts that no Retina iPad mini is going to be announced at the event. He expects Apple to announce an iPad mini with minor changes to the internal hardware and predicts a Retina iPad mini launch for the first quarter of next year. White says that the iPad 5 is going to be the highlight of Apple’s event, as it is going to come with major design changes as well as substantial hardware upgrades. The analyst’s report is contradictory to the one by a reputed news outlet, which said last week that we’ll see a Retina display touting iPad mini on October 22nd. Hopefully Apple will kill the confusion at the event, lets keep our fingers crossed.

Time and again we’ve heard that Apple is going to announce the iPad 5 soon. Its plausible, the timing is just about right for a new iPad to hit the market, though no one knows right now exactly when the company intends on making the announcement. A recent analyst prediction suggests that new Smart Cover may also be announced with the iPad 5. This is plausible as well, given the fact that the iPad 5 is expected to come with major design changes, which would essentially make previous Smart Covers unusable with the new iPad.
It has consistently been rumored that Apple is going to make design changes in the iPad. The tablet’s design has remained the same since the iPad 2, which came out back in 2011. iPad 5 is expected to borrow design cues from the iPad mini, and the various purported casings we’ve seen up till now reiterate this possibility. Analyst Brian J. White of Cantor Fitzgerald believes that this change in design will provide Apple with an “excuse” to announce new Smart Cover as well. Not much is known about the new covers at this point in time, its too soon to say if Apple will opt for materials different from the ones it has already used for previous covers and if its going to add even more colors to the lineup. The iPad announcements are rumored to take place on October 22nd.

Since Apple finally unveiled the two new iPhones last month, the rumor mill’s focus has now shifted to other products. Market analysts often make their predictions about future Apple products as well, and the folks at KGI Securities have come up with yet another round of predictions. It is claimed that Apple is indeed going to launch the Retina iPad mini at its event later this month, though it should be noted that Apple is yet to confirm an iPad event for October. KGI’s analyst also claims that a low cost iMac and a full fledged iPad with a high resolution display is going to be released next year.
Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is of the view that the iPad 6, nevermind the iPad 5, will have the traditional 9.7 inch display but its pixel density will be 30 to 40 percent more than the existing iPad. Even though Apple generally releases a new iPad after an entire year, and it’s slated to launch iPad 5 this month, Kuo predicts that this iPad with high resolution display is going to come out in mid 2014. Kuo also says that Apple might be developing a low cost iMac, given the fact that the existing one isn’t selling in substantial numbers primarily due to its high price. Apple may take this step to push shipments in markets other than the U.S., where HP, Lenovo and other rivals are going strong. Last but not the least, Kuo also touches upon the possibility of a new 12 inch MacBook. The analyst doesn’t categorize it as an Air model, but predicts that it will be thinner and lighter than the existing Air and will have a high resolution display that will “offer the outstanding visual experience of the Retina MacBook Pro.”

The world anxiously waits for Apple to finally unveil its new tablets. It is expected that Apple will unveil two new iPads later this month, if that is not the case, it is probably going to launch the iPad 5 alone any way. There has been a lot of speculation about this tablet, particularly about its looks. Big changes are expected from the iPad 5 in the design department, this would be the first time that the iPad would receive a major design change after the iPad 2, which was launched back in 2011. A number of high quality pictures of a purported iPad 5 casing in space gray color have appeared online.
This is actually the first time that such high quality pictures of this purported part have been seen, we’ve previously seen the same component in the same color in a rather low quality video. The part is identical to the plethora of iPad 5 casings we’ve seen up till now, no surprises there. It bears resemblance to the iPad mini, which it is expected to have. The space gray color was introduced with the iPhone 5s last month, it replaces the traditional black color that Apple has previously offered. Yesterday it was rumored that Apple is going to hold its iPad event on October 22nd, the company hasn’t officially confirmed it as yet.
