iOS 7.1 Release Rumored To Take Place In October

iOS 7.1 Release Rumored To Take Place In October

Tomorrow Apple will finally release iOS 7 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch to the public. The rumor mill is already infatuated with the future versions of iOS 7. It was reported recently that Apple has already started testing iOS 7.0.1, 7.0.2 and 7.1. The latter is said to be a major update that will apparently be released in October. Only yesterday it was rumored that Apple will conduct yet another media event on October 15th. At the event it is expected to unveil the iPad 5, iPad mini 2, refreshed iMac and MacBook lineup and maybe a new Apple TV as well.

The folks at BGR claim to have heard from multiple sources that iOS 7.1 will launch alongside the bevy of products at Apple’s event next month. As the version number suggests, iOS 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 are likely to be minor updates that come with incremental bug fixes, performance and stability improvements. It remains to be seen what major changes iOS 7.1 brings. Apple is yet to confirm anything about a media event, so right now it can’t be said for sure if iOS 7.1 will indeed be launched next month. Apple first unveiled iOS 7 at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2013 back in June. The update brings a completely new user interface as well as a lot of new features.

iPad 5 And iPad Mini 2 Likely Arriving In Q4 2013, Per Analyst Report, With iPad 2 Remaining In Production

    ipad5-case

Apple’s iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 (generational markers, likely not official names by the way) will probably arrive later this year, as has been reported previously, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Generally, analyst-sourced reports seem to be pretty hit-or-miss, but Kuo has a solid track record, including what appear to be accurate predictions around Apple’s forthcoming low-cost iPhone 5C and its color options.

Kuo says in an investor note today (via 9to5Mac) that the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 are entering initial production this month, with plans to ramp up to full-scale mass production in the fourth quarter of this year. This counters some reports that suggested we’d see next-generation tablets from Apple revealed at its September 10 event, which is taking place on the Apple Campus in Cupertino and is generally expected to cover new iPhone announcements.

More details by Kuo included in the note suggest that Apple was originally planning to not release updated iPad models until calendar year 2014, and that it will still wait until them to offer a lower-cost, non-Retina version of the iPad mini in the same way it offers the iPad 2 as a cheaper alternative to the current-generation Retina iPad device.

Another interesting tidbit from Kuo is the idea that Apple will continue to sell the iPad 2 and manufacture new devices even after it introduces new models. Apple typically sells two previous generation devices alongside new model with the iPhone, as a way of offering lower cost options. With the iPad, it has opted instead to keep the iPad 2 around as a sole backup option to the fourth generation iPad, and looks intent on continuing that trend. The iPad 2 currently uses a 30-pin connector, and might be the only shipping Apple device to do so after the September event, so we could see it get a minor revision to move to Lightning for data and charging.

The iPad 5′s rear case was shown off on video by Unbox Therapy earlier this week, and if those parts are real it means we should see an iPad mini inspired design when this does ship. Kuo says they’ll also boast new A7-generation processors, which would mean a big performance boost for the iPad mini, which currently runs an A5. The extra processing power would likely be needed to help support a Retina display, which would pack even more pixels into smaller a space compared to the Retina 9.7-inch iPad screen.

Alleged iPad 5 Case Parts Leak In Video, Show Much Smaller Device Footprint Vs. Current Retina iPad

    ipad-5-video

Apple’s supposed next-generation iPad case components are on display in a new high-definition video from Unbox Therapy, showing a design that is clearly inspired by the iPad mini. This agrees with what we’ve heard and seen from previous leaks, but until now it’s been hard to get a solid grasp on just how dramatic the difference is between the current iPad and the one that’s said to be arriving in October or thereabouts to replace it.

The new iPad design looks to shave around 15mm off of the current model in terms of device width, and also looks to shave off some depth, both of which will probably result in a much lighter, easier to hold and carry device. The savings in terms of the overall width appear to come from a smaller bezel surrounding the unchanged 9.7-inch screen, which is again a trick borrowed from the iPad mini.

In the video, you can see how the new iPad case parts compare directly to the old version, and view additional details like a mirrored Apple logo on the back, as well as dual speaker ports at the bottom, separated volume buttons vs. a rocker on the old model, and more abruptly tapered edges, vs. the gradual slope on the current iPad.

By far the biggest failing of the Retina iPads has been their slight size increase over the iPad 2 to accommodate bigger batteries to power those juice-hungry high-resolution displays. If Apple’s truly going to focus on delivering a slimmer, sleeker case with the iPad 5, we could see a lot of iPad 2 hold-outs rushing to upgrade.

iPad 5 Redesigned Purported Rear Housing Leaked

iPad 5 Redesigned Purported Rear Housing Leaked

Pictures of a redesigned purported iPad 5 rear housing have been posted online. Only yesterday pictures of the purported front panel of Apple’s next generation iPad surfaced. It is believed that the new tablet will come with significant design changes, the new iPad is expected to look quite similar to the iPad mini. There have been countless rumors about this and the parts that have leaked up till now hint at this possibility as well. It was rumored yesterday that Apple might release the new tablet alongside the iPhones on September 10th, but that rumor has been rubbished. Apple is expected to unveil the new iPad and iPad mini 2 later this year.

New iPads Reportedly Not Launching On September 10th

New iPads Reportedly Not Launching On September 10th

Earlier today we picked up on a Bloomberg report that claimed Apple will released two new iPads on September 10th alongside the two new iPhones it is already rumored to announce on that day. This is actually the first time that we’ve heard about the possibility of Apple launching all four new products at one event, some might think that this is too good to be true. Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, who is believed to be well connected, contradicts the report from earlier today by claiming that no iPads will be launched at this event.

It is widely believed that the company’s new iPhones will be launched on September 10th. This date was initially floated last month and up till now no alternative has been rumored. Apple hasn’t said anything about its iPhone plans as of now, so one can’t really be sure that the 10th of next month is a good bet. Apple has traditionally conducted separate events for its tablet and smartphone, it seems unlikely to many that the company will break away from this tradition. The new iPads are expected to be released this year though, as per previous rumors, the release event for Apple’s new tablets might take place around the holiday season.

Allegedly Leaked iPad 5 Front Panel Reveals Slim Bezels

Allegedly Leaked iPad 5 Front Panel Reveals Slim Bezels

Apple is rumored to unveil the next generation iPad later this year, possibly around the holiday season. The upcoming tablet is expected to bring design changes. Apple hasn’t changed the design of its tablet since 2011 when it released the iPad 2. There have been rumors that the next generation iPad would borrow some design elements from the iPad mini. An alleged front panel of the iPad 5 has leaked, it doesn’t reveal any major design changes other than slim bezels, which have previously been rumored.

Apple Reportedly Launching New iPads As Well On September 10th

Apple Reportedly Launching New iPads As Well On September 10th

A few weeks ago it was rumored that Apple will host an event on September 10th to launch its new iPhones. Since then there has been no conflicting report, so it is widely believed right now that the company’s iPhone announcement will take place next month on the aforementioned date. As far as the iPads are concerned, Apple is rumored to release the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 later this year, possibly around the holiday season. However, if a new Bloomberg report is to be believed, the company might unveil the new tablets alongside the new iPhones on September 10th.

Apple is expected to launch two iPhones this year, the iPhone 5S and its much rumored budget smartphone, the iPhone 5C. It hasn’t confirmed release plans as yet, it hasn’t even rolled out invites for an event. The Bloomberg report actually focuses about Apple planning to open its first retail store in Tokyo since 2005, but as you read on, you’ll find that it says “The Cupertino, California-based company plans to introduce new versions of its phone and tablet at a Sept. 10 event,” citing a person familiar with the matter, as always. This report also claims that Apple has promised “several more game changers” as it looks to fend off competition from Samsung. The Korean giant is going to release its smartwatch on September 4th. Is this an indication of Apple launching its hotly anticipated iWatch in the future? One can’t say for sure, so lets just wait and see what happens.

iPad 5 Features Same Thin Touch-Screen Technology As iPad Mini [Rumor]

iPad 5 Features Same Thin Touch Screen Technology As iPad Mini [Rumor]

Ever since the fourth-generation iPad released, there have been rumors regarding the next iPad releasing on a regular basis. One such rumor that has popped up time and time again has been saying the next-generation iPad will most likely resemble a larger iPad Mini by using the same screen technology, making it possible for the next iPad to be both thinner and lighter. It looks like those rumors are again resurfacing as the WSJ published a report saying that’s exactly what will happen to the next iPad. (more…)

Today we get to see the back of this tablet in allegedly leaked pictures. The pictures have been published by FanaticFone, which claims that the rear shell is 24 centimeters by 16.8 centimeters, making it nominally smaller than the current iPad which comes in at 24 centimeters by 18.6 centimeters.
