5th Gen iPad Rumored To Begin Production In July, Might See Release Later In The Year

5th Gen iPad Rumored To Begin Production In July, Might See Release Later In The YearApple rumors while certainly juicy at times, is subject to a lot of skepticism as no one really knows what the Cupertino company is up to. We’ve been hearing rumors about the 5th-gen iPad for quite a while now, with some suggesting that it could be seeing an April launch. However according to the folks at Digitimes, they are now claiming that according to their sources, production for the 5th-gen iPad is expected to begin in July-August 2013, hinting that a much later release/availability of the tablet.

While Apple has typically announced its iPads early in the year as it did with the iPad 2 and iPad 3, the launch of the iPad mini and the 4th-gen iPad in November  of last year might have changed things a bit. Granted some iPad 3 owners are a bit miffed that they only got 6 months to enjoy the tablet before it became old news, another release after 6 months no longer seemed impossible. However Digitimes has been known to get their rumors wrong more often than not, so take this with a grain of salt for now. Assuming it is true, we’re guessing iPad 4 owners will be quite pleased at this piece of news.

Major Retailers Hint At Upcoming iPad 5 Release By Cutting iPad, iPad Mini Prices

Major Retailers Hint At Upcoming iPad 5 Release By Cutting iPad, iPad Mini Prices

It looks like the rumors of a new iPad being announced this month are starting to become stronger as not only did a number of well-connected sources say Apple has an event planned for the end of April, but we’re also seeing a number of retailers slash prices of their iPads.

Yesterday, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and MacMall reduced the prices of their 3rd-generation iPads and current iPad minis to about 30 percent across all versions, which may be a clear indication a new iPad announcement is just around the corner. What’s surprising is Apple seems to be ramping up its iPad production as in the past, they waited nearly a year to announce a new device. Now, it seems like Apple is planning to reveal a new iPad every 6 months as it was nearly that long ago when they announced the iPad Mini and 4th-generation iPad. (more…)

Redesigned iPad 5 Rumored To Be Unveiled This Month

Redesigned iPad 5 Rumored To Be Unveiled This Month

Apple has traditionally released a new iPad in March, like it did with iPad 2 and the iPad 3. The company deviated from its release cycle a bit late last year when it announced the slightly updated iPad 4. The latest rumors in circulation hint that iPad 5 will be announced later this month, and it will be completely redesigned. A new 9.7-inch iPad design will be welcomed, as it has been quite the same since the latest radical redesign, which was implemented on the iPad 2.

Multiple well connected sources are of the view that Apple has an event planned for the end of April. It will announce the redesigned iPad 5 at this event. Previous rumors hint that the design elements will be similar to that of iPad Mini, which was announced in the not so distant past. If this is indeed the case, perhaps we will see some component leaks in the days leading up to the announcement. Its no secret that Apple’s supply chain is a leaky ship. No word about the internal hardware specifications of the upcoming full fledged Apple iPad.

Apple Not Using Samsung For iPad 5 And iPad Mini 2 [Rumor]

Apple Not Using Samsung For iPad 5 And iPad Mini 2 [Rumor]We’re sure that you guys all know the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Samsung, a battle that might see Apple dropping Samsung ultimately from their list of manufacturers, and according to a report from Korea, it looks like that process has already begun. Apple is expected to launch a new iPad later this year, whether it be in a few months or towards the later part of the year has yet to be determined, but it is a safe assumption that the iPad 5 will be launched this year. In any case according to the report, it seems that Apple has made requests for pricing estimates for their 5th gen iPad and iPad mini 2, and interestingly it seems that Samsung Display was not approached to supply the displays for these devices.

Samsung and LG are amongst some of the suppliers that Apple goes to for their display needs, so dropping Samsung will not really set Apple back (although there is a smattering of reports that suggests that Samsung’s displays are slightly better than LG, but we guess that is a matter of perception). The report goes on to state that Samsung’s vice chairman has gone on to dismiss this as merely rumors and that he’s apparently not too concerned about it. We suggest you take this with a grain of salt for now, but we have to wonder if dropping Samsung as a component supplier could have a negative impact future Apple products. We guess we will have to wait and see.

New iPad And iPhone 5S Pegged For April And August Release [Rumor]

New iPad And iPhone 5S Pegged For April And August Release [Rumor]According to a recent report by iMore’s Rene Ritchie, it looks like we might be able to expect Apple to announce new iPads in April, and the iPhone 5S in August. Considering that Apple tends to release iPhones on a yearly cycle, the iPhone 5S release is more or less expected, and iMore reports that it will come with a better camera and a faster chip. Once again this seems to be the case with most Apple iPhone updates (iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4S) so it wouldn’t be a complete shocker if this turned out to be true.

The report of a new iPad in April on the other hand seems a little odd. Prior to the iPad 4, Apple released new iPads on an annual basis as well but they broke that trend in 2012 when they announced the iPad mini and iPad 4 about half a year after the iPad 3 was announced. Assuming Apple is doing this on a semiannual basis now, it will more than likely tick off iPad 4 owners who are only able to enjoy their tablets for less than a year before its successor is announced. Of course since there has not been any announcement by Apple yet, we will be taking this with a grain of salt for now.

However for those who have been following the rumors, the next-gen iPad is expected to adopt a design similar to the iPad mini which has a slimmer profile than its larger sibling, and a new design which adopts the aluminum backing much like the iPhone 5.

iPad 5 Compared To iPad 4, iPad Mini In Artist Rendering

iPad 5 Compared To iPad 4, iPad Mini In Artist Rendering

An artist’s rendering of the iPad 5 between the iPad 4 & iPad Mini

We’ve been hearing a number of iPad 5 rumors over the past few months, one of which suggests the iPad 5 may resemble the iPad Mini with a release expected in October. MacRumors took it upon themselves to commission an artist to render what we expect the iPad 5 to look like, based on these rumors.

As you can see in the artist’s rendering above, the iPad 5 is once again expected to resemble the iPad Mini more than previous iPad models. You can tell due to its slimmed bezel as well as its overall smaller design as the iPad 5 could be 4mm shorter and 17mm more narrow than the current iPad design. The iPad 5 is also expected to be 2mm thinner than the current model, making it exactly as thick as the iPad Mini.

If the rumors turn out to be true, we can expect quite the radical change in design over the original iPad, although it looks as though its 9.7-inch screen will stay completely intact. This will certainly keep iPad purists happy as we’re sure one of the main reasons why they haven’t jumped onto the iPad Mini bandwagon is the fact they prefer their 9.7-inch screen over the iPad Mini’s 7.9-inch screen.

iPad 5 Back Plate Leaked

ipad 5 iPad 5 Back Plate LeakedEarlier today, we reported about the rumor that Apple is brewing up a new iPad model with a 128GB storage that will be priced around $799 for the Wi-Fi-only model and $929 for the Cellular-compatible model. Well, 9to5 Mac is now adding the rumor by posting an “unverified” image submitted by a Chinese iPad accessories manufacturer. The image, as seen above together with iPad mini, appears to be the black of the next-generation iPad, which the source says is a prototype back piece for the fifth-generation iPad with a 9.7-inch display.
