Trent Airbender 2.0 ensures your iPad Air is well protected

trent-airbenderThe world did more or less stop in its tracks earlier this week, as Apple made an announcement which touched on not one, but two iPads – the iPad Air that is thinner and lighter than ever before despite being more powerful, alongside the iPad mini with Retina display, a feature that iPad mini users have been hoping for to arrive for quite some time already. Well, this can only mean one thing – the potentially huge number of people who will be upgrading to the iPad Air would also need a slew of new accessories to go along with their device, and this is where the Trent Airbender 2.0 would be able to step up to the challenge.

The Trent Airbender 2.0 would come in the form of a durable, hard clam shell case where it will be accompanied by a detachable Bluetooth keyboard that makes it ideal for home or office use. Not only that, the Trent Airbender 2.0 will also be able to deliver the necessary protection against minor scratches and knocks, not to mention the added functionality to the iPad Air thanks to its 360 degree rotating case for landscape or portrait viewing angles. Oh yeah, as we also mentioned earlier, there is also the user friendly Bluetooth keyboard that should make your typing on the go a whole lot easier compared to relying on a touchscreen display.

The Trent Airbender 2.0’s ultra low-profile, built-in keyboard will be able to hook up to the iPad Air seamlessly thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. This particular keyboard would feature tactile, chiclet keys that ought to deliver a comfortable, all-round typing experience. Apart from that, this keyboard will aso be accompanied by a row of convenient shortcut keys that would hopefully be able to enhance productivity and efficiency whenever you are taking down notes or drafting documents on the iPad Air. It can be folded up easily for convenient transport, where its compact design should make it fit into any carry-on, backpack, purse or briefcase. Those who are interested in picking up the new Trent Airbender 2.0 will be able to do so on the same day that the iPad Air is available – this coming November 1st for $54.95 a pop.

TruGlide Apex Fine Point Stylus will let you write legibly on an iPad

TruGlide
Touchscreen devices were pretty phenomenal when they first arrived on the scene. Now of course, we’re getting a bit pickier about how we interact with them. Games are better played with a separate controller as you don’t want to cover the screen, listening to music normally needs an external speaker, and you almost have to get a stylus if you want to be able to write rather than type.

There are a plethora of options out there that are ripe for the picking, but inevitably, if you wait for a few months, something better will normally come along. Particularly in the stylus world, we are over saturated with choices, but the writing tip always seems to be huge. You can hardly take notes and be able to read it later. This is especially the case if you don’t have clearly legible handwriting in the first place. The TruGlide Apex is hoping to change that, with a point that is literally a fraction of the size of a normal stylus.

This is a brass barrel with a metal body that holds in place a rigid rubber nib. It’s the same kind of differenec using a fine point pen would have versus a ball point. It’s neat, smooth, and though it’s a bit chunky, will feel familiar to those of us that prefer pen and paper. Simply twist it to turn on and off, and you’ll need one AAAA battery to have it functioning. One of these will cost you around $49, or $60 if you also want a stand to go with it.

Hyperjuice 2 – Tech Charging Powerhouse!

21WywuC4WkL

I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but the steady approach of the end of October has me a little uneasy. For the past 2 years the Northwest has been hit, and hit hard, by snowstorms and hurricanes. The memories of sitting around for weeks without power still makes most folks a little uncomfortable. This year we’re ready (which of course means it’s not going to happen) but we’re ready nonetheless.

Check out Hyperjuice 2, an amazing little external battery pack for your Macbook, iPad, iPhone or Smartphone. The Hyperjuice 2 isn’t just your everyday back up battery, this attractive aluminum box is quite possibly one of the world’s most advanced battery packs, Equipped with 2 high power 10W (5V, 2.1A max) USB ports that can charge any 2 USB devices (even 2 iPads) simultaneously!

Hyperjuice 2 has an 85W output that is actually capable of handling a Macbook Pro with Retina display for up to 18 hours, or run your brand new iPad for around 34 hours (and an older one for up to 50) or fully recharge your phone about 19 times. The cool low profile, rectangular design allows the casing, lithium ion battery cells or the logic board to be replaced separately, making the unit maintainable and environmentally  friendly. OLED displays on the face of the unit provide detailed battery information like status, power percentage, temperature and even the time it will take to fully charge or discharge.

So, if you don’t like being off the grid, for any reason, the Hyperjuice 2 might be for you. It’s important to note that Apple has required that for the battery to work with your MacBook, you will also need the Do-it-Yourself Magic Box kit which is sold separately. The cost of this much power doesn’t come cheap however, with a price tag around 300 bucks at amazon.com, but next time you’re sitting in the dark trying to read by candlelight, you’ll wish you had it.

Oyster Books – Because the World is your iPhone

activity_profile-1

I guess everyone knows by now that I’m a huge fan of subscription services. I love using Netflix and Amazon Prime for my movies, I use a service for my music too. Sure, I have a Roku Player, Internet TV and everything else that lets me sift through tons on content in the blink of an eye. The more the better, but what about my e-reader? When it comes to that, I pretty much get just one book at a time…

To be honest, my e-reader is dead in a drawer somewhere, in favor of my iPod, which has exactly one book on it… until now. Check out Oyster, the new subscription service for big readers. Oyster gives you one-tap access to an endless supply of well designed books, with beautiful (customizable) typography and the ability to share your favorites with your friends, and even get recommendations. Oyster offers all this, and, unlimited access to over 100,000 books, all for under 10 bucks a month, with new titles being added all the time.

I guess some folks start a book and stick with it until its finished, but I find that sometimes, I like a little variety in my reading material. I believe that having so many options will inspire me to read even more. Oyster has a heck of a lot to offer, from Michael Crichton to J.R.R. Tolkien and everything in between, including kids books, complete with color illustrations. I’m loving it.

So, if you’re a huge reader, or you simply aspire to be one, head on over to Oysterbooks.com and sign up for your special invitation, or just get some more information. You’ll be so glad you did. Oyster is currently only available for your iPhone, and here in the United States, but an iPad version should be available to us later this Fall, no word yet on international availability. Let’s let our gadget-riddled brains relax with a few good books, shall we?

iPhone / iPad Pocket Projector – Movie Theater, To Go

410V7Fv6n4L._SX385_

Everyone I know loves their iDevices, not all of them are simply Apple addicts, many of them just genuinely enjoy the whole iOS experience. I have to admit I do too, but I recognize some shortcomings that keep them from being truly excellent. I also have given some thought to what kind of accessories I would need to make the iPhone or iPad even more fun and useful.

One of those accessories might be the the iPhone/iPad Pocket Projector. Compact enough to fit in your purse or pocket the iPhone/iPad Pocket Projector projects your iPhone’s screen directly onto any flat surface from less than a foot away to as far as 10 feet, projecting an image that reaches up to 85” diagonal. I imagine pictures, movies and presentations… useful at work, and fun with the kids during their next sleepover.

The projector weighs in at less than 5 oz and is smaller than a smartphone. The iPhone/iPad Pocket Projector can turn your ceiling, tent, blank wall or even the side of your house into a movie theater. The projector’s 640 x 480 pixel resolution ensures a nice picture and a manual focus wheel enables you to “dial up” sharpness and clarity, your iDevice’s speakers control the sound though, so extra speakers might need to be on the menu as well.

You can also download a free app, which will then enable you to magnify or rotate images and project everything from YouTube videos to a 4 hour search for the perfect prom dress. The internal lithium-polymer battery provides two hours of projection and recharges via USB with the included cable. Compatible with most iPhones/iPads, except the iPhone 5, the new iPad with Retina Display and the iPad Mini. Get yours for under 300 bucks at amazon.com

eleMount is an elegant way to mount your phone or tablet

eleMount

Smartphones and tablets are great. They have so many uses that we would never have dreamed up even 10 years ago. Of course, to take full advantage of some of these features, you might need an accessory or two. Two of the more important accessories are stands and mounts. The latter is especially important if you frequently use your smartphone as a GPS. But with so many options on the market, which is the perfect one for you?

The eleMount is a new mount that promises to be the best stand and mount that you’ve ever seen. Crafted from CNC machined aluminum, this looks like the sort of mount that Apple would make to match the rest of their brushed aluminum products. So what keeps your device attached to the metal plates? Each plate uses a patented elePad, which is made from a special sticky polyurethane. So all you need to do is simply press on your device, and it will stay until you pry it away.

The eleMount comes in two sizes, the regular, and the mini. The former is larger, for tablets, while the latter is designed for smaller devices, like phones. The mini also has a removable base that reveals a tripod mount, if you want to use your smartphone for photos or video. The mini will set you back $60, while the larger runs $69.

iWALK announces The Executive portable Bluetooth keyboard

executiveHow productive are you with the iPad? Do you use it primarily to check your emails and attend to whatever outstanding emails that need a reply, and does it double up as your go-to device for gaming whenever you are on the move? If that is the case, then surely you would not need a peripheral like The Executive from iWALK, which arrives in the form of an extremely slim portable Bluetooth keyboard, complete with a kick stand that will be able to transform your iPad into a mobile workstation – with the right apps loaded beforehand, of course. Well, the iPad is not the only device to receive this benefit from The Executive, as it will also play nice with smartphones and other tablets, although I would think that you would be more productive with a keyboard on a tablet rather than a smartphone – since the screen size itself does affect usability by a large margin.

iWALK’s announcement of the availability of The Executive shows that it was specially designed for the professional who want to remain productive on the go without having to add on any bulk. In fact, it measures a mere 0.5” thin, tips the scales at just 1.4lbs, and is capable of connecting seamlessly to any smartphone, tablet or Bluetooth-enabled device thanks to Bluetooth 3.0 technology.

Not only that, The Executive will also integrate a cover that doubles as kick stand, allowing it to offer the relevant support for your device, delivering optimal and hands-free viewing. It will be powered by a high performance Li-Polymer battery which means you need not worry about the device leeching off the power from your tablet, and will require a mere 2 hours of charging via USB, and has been rated to last for up to 300 hours of consistent use or 45 days on standby. Those who are interested can check out The Executive for $69.99 a pop.

Tile – Tells You Where it’s At

Unknown-2

I recently told you guys about iTrail, a nifty little electronic that lets you know what your kids, (or pets) are up to. I feel pretty prepared to keep tabs on them. What I have not mastered is the ability to keep track of my keys, phone and wallet! If I had a dollar for every time I had to yell to my family “has anyone seen my….?” I’d be a very rich woman indeed.

Well, here comes an iOS gizmo named Tile to my rescue, a very small electronic tag with a self contained speaker that will easily let you hear it when you are in proximity. (So no more trying to locate your phone by calling it, only to find that the battery is dead.) The associated Tile app, saves the last place your items were, and you can even watch yourself get closer or further away during your hunt, helping you to easily zero in on your target.

Set up is simple, you just grab your Tile out of the box, and press the “e”, then go to the Tile app and add the Tile by holding it up to your iPhone. Tiles can be hung from an item, like a keychain,  it can be dropped into a purse or wallet, or it can be stuck to things like a phone or laptop. You can use up to 10 Tiles on any account, and you can access the account from other phones (I wondered about how it would work if I lost the phone that I use to view the tracking info) the range is only about 150 feet, but The interesting concept of this tracking device is that the signal can be picked up by anyones nearby Tile, so the range could become limitless, assuming enough people get on board.

The Tiles are pretty expensive and they only last about a year, but the developers vow to make replacements less expensive as time goes on, and lets face it I really only need 3. Hey! Has anyone seen my wallet? Pre-order now for under 20 bucks at thetileapp.com

MagBak lets you mount your iPad to any metal surface

MagBak

There are hundreds of iPad accessories out there. If there’s something you want your tablet to do, there’s probably a case or add-on that will help you do it. My favorite accessories tend to be the ones that are so simple that you think they should have been a part of your device to begin with. This MagBak is definitely one of those things.

At first glance, the MagBak seems to do very little. It’s just two strips of silicone that you put on the back of your iPad. The nice thing is that the strips do add a bit of grip, so that you don’t have to worry about it slipping out of your hands while you’re carrying it. What’s interesting is that inside of those strips are a set of magnets. If you use a SmartCover, it will now snap into place on the back of your iPad, instead of hanging limply. The magnets aren’t just designed to make your SmartCover stay in place, you can actually use these strips to mount your tablet to any metal surface.

If you don’t have a lot of metal walls around your house, you’ll be getting a metal O-Ring that you can mount to a wall. Then, whenever you want to put your iPad there, you’ll literally just press it up against the O-Ring, and it will stay. If you want one of these for yourself, you only need to pledge $29 to the Kickstarter fund, which has earned more than double the amount they originally asked for. You should expect to get your MagBak sometime next month.

MYO Armband – Control with the Snap of a Finger

images-1

I’m a huge fan of Sci-Fi, all the futuristic gizmos and gadgets get me dreaming about what life could be like one day. I’m especially drawn to movies with all that nifty gesture controlled tech stuff. (think Minority Report and Iron Man) I was pretty excited about Microsoft’s Kinect, but it wasn’t exactly what I had envisioned 10 years ago and I’m still waiting to be impressed. My time may have come…

Check out the MYO Armband, making the science fiction of your dreams a reality, this device is the real deal in gesture driven computer control. The MYO Armband is worn on your forearm and works by picking up electrical activities in your muscles (the ones that work your fingers and wrist) as they make gestures, translating that movement into computer commands. How cool is that?

The most outstanding difference between the MYO Armband and Kinect or Leap motion controller is that instead of waving and jumping around with exaggerated movements in order to be picked up, the MYO Armband can also detect very fine movements, like that of a surgeon, and even the simplest and most subtle finger movement can be read just as easily as a sweeping hand gesture.

Right now, MYO is working as a substitute for existing controllers for some games and devices like Sphero and a remote controlled helicopter drone. It can turn up the volume for you, control some gaming weapons, but thats just the baby steps, developers are looking to release an open source API soon, allowing millions of developers to come up with uses for MYO in conjunction with iPhone and iPad. This technology is going somewhere. Keep an eye on it, and if you want to be part of the fun, you can pre-order your MYO Armband from thalmic.com for under 150 bucks, or at least go check out the video…
