PSA: Passbook supported apps now listed in iOS 6 App Store

PSA Passbook supported apps now listed in iOS 6 App Store

Now that iOS 6 has officially landed, Apple has pulled back the veil revealing the first wave of apps to support its new Passbook feature. The initial group of companies to jump on the bandwagon include: Ticketmaster, Live Nation, Lufthansa, MLB.com At Bat, Sephora to Go, Walgreens and Fandango Movies. While this list is a tad bit shorter than we hoped for, it’s safe to say that more apps will follow in the not-so-distant future. Want to be the first to know when they arrive? Be sure to keep an eye on the Passbook section of the App Store for the latest updates.

Apple iOS 6 released

Good news folks! Apple has just opened the flood gates and released the official version of iOS 6 today for the world. You diehard Apple fans have probably been running iOS 6 from the beta, or GM release a few weeks ago, but today the final version is rolling out and available right this minute for all those iDevices.

While we’re pretty sure many of you are patiently waiting for that shiny new iPhone 5 to arrive, for those that didn’t upgrade you can surely get close with iOS 6. Apple’s new Siri improvements, Their own home-brewed 3D Maps with flyover, passbook and more. I’m sure you all know plenty about iOS 6 already and just would like to know how to get it.

The folks from Cupertino have been working hard and are pushing the update out as we speak. We’ve been hearing from multiple sources that the rollout has just begun and is rolling out in stages. Users of iOS 5 devices should be able to update over-the-air right on their devices, and as usual all can use iTunes to do the same. As a precaution it’s always good to backup your iPhone or iPad first just to be safe.

We mentioned this morning the update would start rolling out around 1:00 PM EST and that is in just a few minutes. Most likely the masses will start seeing the update arrive shortly. The update is likely being staggered so if you don’t see it right away don’t be too upset, try again in a few minutes and you’ll be enjoying that iOS 6 greatness soon enough. You might also want to make sure you’re running the latest iTunes 10.7

For more details on iOS 6 you’ll want to check out our Apple Hub, or take a peek at our in depth iPhone 5 and iOS 6 review.

iOS 6 review

iOS 6 review

Starting tomorrow, iOS users will be prompted to update their devices to the newest iteration of Apple’s mobile operating system. As difficult as it is to believe, we’re already onto the sixth version of the OS, which continues to be updated with new features on a yearly basis. After pushing out so many upgrades critical to plugging a few major feature holes, the vast majority of its 200 advertised enhancements are strictly granular, as Apple continues to polish its popular OS.

That doesn’t mean, though, that this build is coming to the masses without any jarring UI changes: Apple has declared independence from Google by adopting its own Maps, added a few nice features to Mail and iCloud, thrown Facebook integration into the mix and introduced the Passbook for paperless tickets. The question is, how does it stack up against previous refreshes? Read on to find out.

Jimmy Kimmel pranks passerbys with the iPhone 4S, claiming it is the iPhone 5

Apple’s iPhone 5 has been announced, but it has not yet been released. That will only be taking place on the 21st of September for a handful of countries. However what are the impressions that people have had about the phone so far? Well as a prank, and perhaps to prove that it’s really all just in our minds, television host Jimmy Kimmel decided to take to the streets with an iPhone 4S to ask the average passerby what they thought about the new iPhone 5, and based on their comments, it seems that pretty much all of them thought that the iPhone 4S was the iPhone 5, and even made comments about how it was “thinner” and “faster”. We’re assuming that these aren’t paid actors but either way it’s pretty funny, so be sure to check it out in the video above!

Here’s a Side-By-Side Comparison of a Picture Taken with the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S [Iphone 5]

Though we won’t get an official side-by-side comparisons of the camera in the iPhone 4S and the new iPhone 5 until we get our hands on it, this is about as close as it gets: Scott Everett, from Dpreview, took nearly the same picture of Big Sur that Apple has been using in its iPhone 5 sample gallery with his own iPhone 4S. It’s the first head to head look of the camera in the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S. More »

A Real Life Photo of the iPhone 5 Compared to the iPhone 4S [Iphone 5]

The iPhone 5 is tall and beautiful in all those Apple product shots, but how does it look compared to the iPhone 4S in real life? NYT’s Jenna Worthman took this image, raw and unretouched, during the post-event hands-on session. That 4S looks so short now. [Twitter] More »

iPhone 5 vs. iPhone 4S (and old Dock Connector vs. Lightning): a photo tour

iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S and old Dock Connector vs Lightning a photo tour

We knew the iPhone 5 was thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S, but seriously, it’s thinner and lighter than the iPhone 4S. By a pretty notable margin. Picking up the iPhone 5 is almost jarring — it’s barely heavy enough to feel “premium,” and it’ll probably make you handle it with care for free of breaking it in half with too tight a tug. The new Dock Connector — also known as Lightning — is most certainly smaller, and looks most at home on the new iPod nano. Without further qualifying, have a look at the comparison gallery below.
