Nano-SIM for next iPhone makes appearance ahead of launch?

First we saw a supposed leak of the next iPhone’s nano-SIM tray, and now we’re seeing alleged photos of the nano-SIM itself. iFun posted an image of what it says is a new T-Mobile nano-SIM that has just started arriving at the German carrier. The package apparently came with a message telling carriers that these SIMs are for smartphones about to go on the market, and that they’re not to be given to customers — yet. Cupertino, of course, tweaked its nano-SIM design earlier this year, and this photo does come ahead of an Apple announcement event rumored for next week.

This video demo gives us an idea of what the iPhone 5 experience might be like

Assuming all the leaks and rumors have it right and it’s not one big hoax, it looks like we can expect Apple’s next-gen iPhone to sport a larger 4” display. However instead of going “bigger” with the new display, it seems that Apple has chosen to go “longer/taller”, therefore keeping the width of the original iPhone but making the length of the display longer. If you’re wondering what it might be like to handle such a device, the folks at Mac Rumors have put together a video demonstrating what the experience could be like. The video itself is very well put together and is reminiscent of the kind of videos Apple might put out themselves, so if you’re curious be sure to check it out above. Granted it’s no substitute to actually holding and playing with the device yourself, but for those planning on pre-ordering it the minute it is available, perhaps this will help.

iPhone 5 headphones redesign prepare Apple for inevitable iTunes event

This month there’s been so many tips about an event for the new iPhone 5 (or whatever you want to call it) that it seems like a sure shot – but now with a new pair of Apple earbuds leaking out before the drop, a second event seems all the more likely. Last month a couple of tips and suggestions lead the tech news circuit to believe that an October music-themed event was in the mix in addition to this September 12th offering of the iPhone 5, though neither event has been confirmed by Apple in the least. The newest “leak” of information from Apple (supposedly, of course), comes in the form of a redesigned set of earbuds made for the brand new Apple mobile lineup – could it be a sign?

These new buds – or earphones – has been posted in a video coming from Vietnam where the narrator suggest that they’re set for release right inside the box when the iPhone 5 comes out next month. Next month is now this month, September, and the design doesn’t seem entirely impossible for a full-fledged Apple product of the future. Gone are the original audio holes in the center of the bud and included are a couple of tubes made to blast sound directly down your ear hole. Why not include these in the next iPad and iPad releases as well?

These new buds also do not require the addition of rubbery tips like make modern tiny audio blasters do. Now we’ll be jamming them in and letting the tunes run free. Of course there must be some protection in there or they wouldn’t be coming up soon, so no worries on the destruction of your canals.

The new iPhone will likely be appearing on the 12th of September with a release date later this month. Have a peek at our iPhone 5 tag link to see the rest of the rumors, tips, and leaks that have surrounded this epic release that’s not yet been confirmed by Apple in any way at all. And stick around as we bring you some pointed moments in the history of this not-yet-real device in the timeline you’re about to run into head-first!

iPhone 5 Images Leaked (We Think)

It seems like Apple’s getting pretty bad at keeping its secrets. Either that, or people are just getting better at uncovering them. While they don’t have a complete, working phone, the folks over at China’s iColorOS somehow managed to get their hands on various parts of the iPhone 5 to assemble their very own version of the device.

iPhone 5dBy parts, we mean the exterior stuff like the case and metal plates because I’m sure no one would be able to leave Apple HQ with the actual insides of an iPhone 5 and live to tell the world about it. (I’m kidding. I think.)

Here’s what the leaked images prove:

  • The iPhone 5 has a bigger screen compared to its predecessor – around 0.5 inches larger, providing a true 16×9 aspect ratio for video content.
  • It’s going to come with a smaller dock port, so say goodbye to the 30-pin dock.
  • The FaceTime camera has been re-positioned to somewhere on top of the ear receiver.
  • The earphone jack has been moved to the bottom of the device, by the speakers.

iPhone 5d 150x150
iPhone 5e 150x150
iPhone 5f 150x150

Of course, the exterior of the iPhone 5 tells us nothing about what’s going on under the hood, like whether or not it’s running a new A6 chip or the same A5 from the current iPad, nor does it tell us about the display’s resolution, or any other hardware improvements, like the hotly-anticipated 4G connectivity. Guess we’ll just have to wait until Apple’s September 12 event for the full reveal.

iPhone 5 Mockup Shows How Taller Design Stacks Up Against the 4S [Video]

An anonymous case manufacturer has been showing off a physical mockup of the iPhone 5 at Europe’s IFA consumer electronics fair this weekend. While it doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know, this video from the Verge does a good job of highlighting the differences we’re expecting to show up between the old and new device. More »

iPhone 5 mockup spotted at IFA 2012

Check out the video above, and look very carefully. It might very well be the first time you laid eyes on the upcoming iPhone 5, never mind if it is in the mockup form. GSMIsrael seemed to have gotten the skinny on the iPhone 5 mockup, where it laid claim to be shown thanks to the CEO of a major cover and case manufacturer. Similar to most of the other iPhone 5 rumors that are hanging around, the mockup has a taller form factor compared to current iPhones, complete with a headphone jack located at the bottom edge of the device, where it boasts a two-toned backplate. No idea on just which case manufacturer this is, but the mass production of such cases, if already running, could very well ship to the rest of the retailers within a week’s time. Which is not too far from the September 12 announcement that many have associated with the iPhone 5’s release. Still, do take this particular bit of reporting with a grain of salt as with all rumors.

Purported Redesigned Apple Earbuds Leaked In Vietnam

newheadphones2

While rumors of the new iPhone have been rampant for most of the summer, not much has been leaked about accessories other than a purported new cable. That is until now. Vietnamese tech blog Tinhte.vn, which has a fairly decent track record, has posted a video and hands-on images of what appear to be newly redesigned earbuds.

The new buds are reportedly being manufactured in a Vietnamese Foxconn factory and will be bundled with the upcoming iPhone. While the original video included audio, the video has since been replaced with one sans audio. MacRumors, however, has a transcript from the original video:

In my hands are the new earphones for the iPhone 5 that is about to come out – Apple’s next generation of iPod [sic]. These will replace the current earphones that are on the market. These are manufactured at Phax Co factory in Vietnam. They have the appearance of a horse’s head, not like earbuds. When they are worn, they have a much smaller profile. They have the appearance of a fully integrated, single unit – there’s no part that looks like it would come apart – not like earbuds; the integrated design is characteristic of Apple products. Here I have the old earphones for comparison. The new ones are much smaller; when they are worn, they do not hurt the way earbuds do. You can see on the old ones the surface is a separate part that looks like it can be detached – not like the small surface of the new one. The old earphones were mostly made in China, with some in Vietnam. But the new ones are clearly made in Vietnam. (Reading from the wires): “Designed by Apple in California, assembled in Vietnam.”

They certainly look Applesque but we won’t know for sure until Apple’s purported September 12 event where the company is widely expected to announce its latest generation iPhone.

iPhone 5 gets revamped earphones in new video

When Apple unveils the iPhone 5 at that rumored September 12 event, it will apparently be doing so with a new set of earphones. A video showing off these new earphones has popped up on Vietnamese site Tinhte.vn, giving us a look at what may come packaged with the next generation iPhone. If this is the real deal, then it would appear that Apple’s earbuds have undergone a pretty big redesign.

The video you see below originally had sound, but a new version without any audio has since been uploaded in the original’s place. Luckily, MacRumors was able to translate the audio before that switch occurred. Apparently these new earphones are smaller than Apple’s traditional earbuds (though only slightly, judging by the comparison pictures), and it seems that they would fit the ear better than the older round shape. It isn’t exactly a secret that Apple’s earbuds weren’t the most comfortable things to wear, and indeed, Tinhte says that these new ones don’t hurt when put them in your ears.

Tinhte also says that each earpiece is made in such a way that it looks like it’s all one “fully integrated, single unit.” This means that these earphones might not come apart as easily, which should be welcomed change since the old earbuds could feel a little fragile at times. Have a look at the video below to get a first glimpse at what may just be the iPhone’s redesigned earphones:

If Apple is planning a new design for the next iPhone like some of the rumors claim, it wouldn’t surprise us at all to see the earbuds undergo a reboot as well. The last few weeks have brought a pretty steady stream of parts leaks, and in just 10 short days we should be finding out if any of them were legitimate. Can’t Wait For the iPhone 5? Chinese Mock Ups Are Already On Sale for $5 and Up [Iphone 5]

By now, it seems like just about every possible part of the iPhone 5 has leaked. There’s not much left for a surprise. There’s so little left, in fact, that there are all kinds of full-assembled iPhone 5 mock-ups on Taobao (it’s like a Chinese Ebay-ish, Amazon-y thing) already. More »
